Razer Introduces New External Capture Device Called Ripsaw HD

Razer has introduced a new capture device that will go toe-to-toe with Elgato’s external devices. This entry level capture device will allow the capturing of video at 1080p and 60 FPS while including 4K and 60 FPS passthrough so that the playing experience will go uninterrupted.

So it can't record 4K, only 1080p. Why would I want it then? If I'm playing in 4K I want my recordings to be 4K as well. I'd just spend the money for a real 4K capture device.

Yeah it seems like an odd thing to exclude, But if given the option back then I would’ve picked this since I only have the 1080p capture elgato but sacrifice the 4K. They’re a bit late with this

It certainly at the price point to compete with the base model

Shame because I was really hoping to get a replacement with 4K, I’ve had plenty of issues with Elgato

Avermedia Live Gamer 4k is pretty good. I only use it for streaming and 1080p 60fps recording but it can record 4k 60fps with HDR for those that need it. It is $300 tho but worth the investment if that's what you are into.

Huh? There are already 4K capture devices on the market. They've been around for a while already. I don't see how piracy would be a factor when that would be the most inefficient way to pirate films.

How? All capture cards have HDCP support, meaning you can't run a movie or streamed media through them as it disables the input. Xbox and PlayStation won't even let you play movies or load up a streaming app without first enabling HDCP either.

Yes there are 4k capture cards available already. I was just throwing that out there.

"I don't see how piracy would be a factor when that would be the most inefficient way to pirate films"

...a 4k capture card is actually the most efficient way to pirate streaming 4k media.

@rob-GP

I don't think you understand how a capture card works while recording streamed content because of said hdcp. You will capture the video but have no audio (or it will end up badly out of sync). There are even simpler ways to capture the audio separately then mesh the two together in sync via vegas pro or similar software.

I’ve had a lot of issues w elgato as well, we will see how this does

This seems kinda neat but for now I just use the win10 xbox app and ps remote play for capturing to stream while playing on 4K on my tv for some games and it seems to work well enough while not spending extra money lol
