Red Dead Redemption 2 For Switch Possibly Leaked By Target

RDR2.org writes "Disregard the date - we're not hopping on the April's Fools bandwagon, and this particular piece of news originates from the last days of March anyway.

After Target posted, then quickly pulled, a product listing for a possible Nintendo Switch port of Red Dead Redemption 2 it seems like the game might hit the hybrid console after all."

Will probably be streamed. This game looks way better than RE7 and that had to be streamed.

@porkChop Anything posted 1-2 days before or after April's Fools can be considered April's Fools these days.

bluefox7552623d ago

One of those April Fools jokes that didn't fool anyone. I can't imagine anyone believing this is even possible, lol.

Moonman2623d ago

Nintendo Life reported this rumor 6 days ago though. It's hard to believe but it did get reported before April 1st.

Moonman2623d ago (Edited 2623d ago )

http://www.nintendolife.com...

This was posted last week. All the comments say Wednesday, Thursday, Friday when today is Tuesday April 2nd. So obviously last week. And with the rumors of new Switch models, that is where one could possibly believe it. If new Switch models were not rumored to be coming then this would be easy to write off.

Rumours and they seem likely that Nintendo will revise Switch hardware this year. As in make a kind of 'Pro' model with more power than the original, and a new original cheaper base model.

There is plenty of history for this, all the DS and 3DS revisions made, and the mid cycle hardware refreshes of the other consoles.

Potentially a 'Pro' Switch model could be virtually as fast as an original Xbox One. We have now reached a manufacturing process (7nm) where the Switch's Tegra chipset could be upgraded that much and the machine would still be a viable portable console.

Certainly it would be fast enough to do RDR2 in say 720p natively. If Xbox One can do it in 872p then a similar slightly cut down version would actually run natively on a upgraded Switch.

Now of course this would mean splitting the Switch user base. That's the main reason I would think this wouldn't happen. But who knows.

mcstorm2623d ago

I don't think this will happen as there would be a lot of p***ed switch users if they made a pro version that the original switch could not play some games for. I think if they did this you would still need the same games to work on both just like ps4 & Pro and xbox one & S. That said stranger things have happened

Sirk7x2622d ago

They did do it with the New 3DS already. Super Nintendo games on the VC, Xenoblade and Binding of Isaac were New 3DS compatible only.

TheColbertinator2622d ago

@mcstorm

Pissed off Switch users are irrelevant. Nintendo wants to sell the new revisions of their platforms as much as possible. Look at the 3DS and new 3DS then wonder how Nintendo sold at least 2 portables to the same user.

Dragonscale2623d ago

It wouldn't run well on switch tbh.

Mr Marvel2623d ago

Streaming doesn’t count as it’s not a legitimate way to play games properly.

WOLFofWALLSTREET2623d ago

This or a GTA game would be epic on switch

Sgt_Slaughter2623d ago

Shh don't show your excitement for a Switch game on here, you won't make the other side happy.

optimus2623d ago

...or anything xbox for that matter. 🙄

ElementX2623d ago (Edited 2623d ago )

The only GTA the Switch could run would be the first two.

eagle212623d ago

Are you really saying GTA 3 and GTA 4 cannot run on a Switch? But Doom 2016 can? Really?

Nintentional2623d ago

... even though the Switch is more powerful than the PS3? 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

King_Noctis2623d ago (Edited 2623d ago )

The Xbox 360 and PS3 could run GTA V, and the Switch is stronger than those two. So could you tell me why the Switch could not run GTA V?

eagle212622d ago

ElementX - You should of said April Fools...lol. I totally thought you were not joking. haha.

You think Rockstar views Red Dead 2 as a failure because it didn't sell 150m copies?

jznrpg211d ago

3 billion or so in revenue not including online stuff I’m sure they don’t

SethNW211d ago

I am pretty sure they don't. It was profitable and made them a lot of money. Not GTA5 money but far from failure. Maybe it is lower priority franchise, due to being smaller, but that is about the lowest they would put it as. Only thing they do consider failure is RDR2 Online, unlike GTA5 Online, that RDR2 Online flopped. Hence why it got less support. And when it come to profits, sales for both combined don't come close to GTA Online microtansactions. Hence why everything very quickly got canceled and GTA Online was top priority, so no GTA6 for a long time, no DLC for GTA5, despite there being 5 DLCs planned, at least I think it was 5, give or take one. But as I see it, they needed to rejuvenate interest and all, hence why GTA6 eventually is getting made. But what they are really looking forward to is refresh of Online.

ZeekQuattro211d ago

Only in terms of the online aspect of the game. They didn't support it as much as they did GTA V Online. I remember people being pissed about that.

jznrpg211d ago

I own a few GTAs but never played them. I love Red Dead though

Yui_Suzumiya205d ago (Edited 205d ago )

Boring and overrated. Red Dead Redemption is pretty good though. The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is my personal GOAT. We need more stuff like that from TooKyo.

victorMaje211d ago

I must be one of the few who are fine with the GTA6 delay. People treat that game like it’s the 2nd coming lol.

FIELDMARSHALL_P211d ago

My daughter asked me how I felt about I shrugged and said I don't care gives me time to finish up games I already have. It's all good let them make the best game they can.

RedDevils211d ago

Wish they make another Manhunt or Bully.

gold_drake211d ago

damn, thats a ridiculous number

Dan Houser: RDR2 was "behind schedule" and "over budget so much I didn’t want to think about it"

The world they built is pretty amazing. Unfortunately, the game was mostly boring to me. I definitely had fun in some parts, but it didn't do it for me as a whole like the first one did. I loved RDR so much.

The budgets and time it takes to make games these days is out of control. Such a big risk. If a game isn't a huge hit, it is often it for a studio. Scary. I really miss the PS2 and PS3 days where studeios could make 4 games in a generation and take risks in making something new. And so many were using their own engines. Those were the days.

neutralgamer1992216d ago

Agreed. I love RDR but couldn't get into RDR2. The animations take forever and game slows you down on purpose. It won't let you have fun because R* want us to play the game they want to. I know millions love RDR2 and I even bought and own it. But just wasn't for me.

It's like comparing GTA4 to saints row 2. One game was about fun while the other was about realism and that's coming from someone who beat GTA4 many times. I much rather a game be fun to play than chase realism

YodaCracker216d ago

GTA IV’s realism is what made it so much more fun for me. I loved experimenting with the physics.

Storm23215d ago

I bought RDR2 also. Put 100+ hours into it and beat it our of respect for Rockstar and all the people saying it was the greatest game ever. RDR blew my mind but might also have been the best time in gaming for me personally. l loved that PS3 gen so much.

I am excited to see what GTA6 is like.
