FromSoftware games and their silent issues

FromSoftware games are notorious for their difficult and challenging gameplay, but is this really the real issue about them?

Yet another article complaining about a From Software game. But this time not about it's difficulty. No, this time it's about the games lack of subtitles, lack of remapping buttons, and colorblind options.

It talks about how it specifically isn't complaining about its difficulty, but praises games like Celeste for having options like Infinite Stamina so that it can be 'accessible' to more people.

From Software is passionate and most importantly, uncompromising with it's vision for it's games. They're are NOT for everyone.

CP_Company2522d ago

but you can remap the buttons :D i remapped them the first time i put the disc on. i wish all games could offer that!!!

Double_O_Revan2522d ago

Well, the author wanted to remap run to one button and evade to another. But they're locked together on PS4 at least. I dont know about PC.

Michiel19892522d ago

Im not sure if Dark Souls alloows you to remap but there are several programs on pc that let you remap buttons for (controllers)

sprinterboy2522d ago

Can't gamers just use the button remapping in accessibility options under settings on ps4?

SamPao2522d ago

On the PS4 you can remap all the buttons from the settings of the Console itself.... no need to have it in the game. as far as I know :P

CP_Company2522d ago

On PS4 you can't remap buttons the same way as you do in the game. In the game you remap them as you wish, on ps4 you just shift their places fexp you shift x and o and o will act as x and x will act as o. Very limited, but sometimes useful.

While I don't have an opinion either way, although I don't really see the harm in adding easier modes, I do wonder why this debate crops up with every game from them. What can be said has been said on the subject, and if FROM software doesn't want to do it, it isn't going to happen unless the publisher really forces them to do so.

It's their thing, and while some may wish it to happen for whatever reason, it probably won't. People shouldn't be upset with those that want it though. They just want to enjoy the game as well, and not everyone is into hard games.

Zeref2522d ago (Edited 2522d ago )

I don't think having colorblind options and remappable buttons compromises their vision. I'm in the camp that says let them make the game that they want. They didn't want an easy mode? So be it.

But Remappable buttons and colorblind options are a must for any modern game. That doesn't compromise their vision in the slightest. It's for handicapped people that want to play the game. They should be able to.

I choose to not play their games because I get too frustrated. But if a handicapped person want's to play their games they should be able to. Why would they not want that?

Kurt Russell2522d ago

I don't get peoples staunch aggression towards making games more accessible. The only reason I can see is because they want some invisible badge of honour for completing a challenging game. The reality is, if these games were more accessible, they would still be able to play the exact way they do do... just other less able people would have the opportunity to experience these games. That can only be a good thing.

Ugh not this again

Also lol can't believe they compared From Software's games to something like Celeste, don't get me wrong is an okay game but nothing in the league of FS games.

Reibooi2522d ago

The way I have always looked at this argument is simply that you would not walk up to a film director and ask them to remove the blood and gore from their slasher flick. No you just don't watch that film.

So why the hell when a game does something that isn't for everyone do people demand the vision of the games director be changed for no reason. Not everything needs to be for everyone.

All that said I'm a massive fan of Celeste I have played through it several times at this point and it was one of my favorite games last year but comparing Celeste to From Software games regardless of if you like Celeste or not is really a pointless apples and oranges comparison. Just like I would not compare Friday the 13th and the original Alien. Yeah both horror but that is basically were the similarities end. If a From Software game is harder than you like your games to be great you don't have to buy it and your not the intended market. That isn't a bad thing.

jagermaster6192522d ago

If you don't like their games then don't buy them! I will continue to buy them because I enjoy a challenge and I enjoy figuring it out rather than a game holding my hand all the way till the end....get gud people.

sprinterboy2522d ago (Edited 2522d ago )

Exactly these type of games are not normally my style but I did enjoy bloodborne sucked at demon souls lol but I've never hated on any game which isn't for me. Unfortunatly gamers think every game is made for them these days. Fucking cry babies this gen I swear.
Gonna pick up sekiro though as I did enjoy bloodborne (3 bosses defeated) but I'll get sekiro when it's abit cheaper as I don't want to fork out £50 for a game I can't beat the first or second boss in lol but I'll never complain about the difficulty as that was the devs vision and the genre type its become famed for.

jznrpg2522d ago (Edited 2522d ago )

Sekiro is amazing . It’s the best Samurai game in a long time including NioH. It’s better than NioH though I loved that game too. Before these games it’s been way too long . I can’t wait for Ghosts if Tsushima . I personally can’t have too many Samurai games

on_line_forever2522d ago (Edited 2522d ago )

STOP complaining

fromsoftware give me the passion and challenge I really need to continue and love playing games to this day

"I expect that the new CEO, Asha Sharma, her job is going to be as a palliative care doctor who slides Xbox gently into the night."

LOL

Anyway, let's wait and see maybe Mia Khalifa will surprise us.

rlow11d 16h ago

I’m on the fence about her. I’ll give her chance, but if she is there to finish things off. Well what can you do.

Abnor_Mal1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 13h ago )

After seeing the article of the possible sunsetting of Xbox as said by Seamus Blackley I believe, I went onto X because of a post I saw. It was a gif of Vegeta powering up, the poster commented as Vegeta yelling “Don’t take my fiercest competitor away from me.” Standing there in his blue Sayian/Freiza corps outfit. So it got me to thinking, so let me ask a question to N4G.

If Vegeta is PlayStation, who would Xbox and Nintendo be in the Dragon Ball universe?

Who would be Master Roshi?

I have my own opinion of course, I just want to see what others think.
