what the hell? what is their definition of flop? most of the things in there are still in the market and they already considered it as top 9 flops?? I thought there are a lot more obvious flops that can be considered and HD DVD came to mind. HD DVD made Toshiba lost over a billion in revenue after loosing to BD and surprisingly it's not in there and they put BD instead! BD won over HD DVD and is supported by all movie studios and it's a flop? what kind of logic is that?!

macbook air is a flop because it lies in 52nd place in Amazon. Amazon?? now amazon's chart is the place to define flops? and last time I checked most of PC and laptops being sold currently are vista pre-installed and eventhough vista is bugged with problems, it sells and sold quite well as what it is according to M$!

Is not so difficult to read the article, it is about tech gadgets they believe to flop over Xmas, not 6 month ago flops, nor distant future flops, but this Xmas, come on it is not hard to understand.

One title isn't enough. If one title was going to turn the tide and make people start adopting Blu-ray on a large scale I don't think that Dark Knight would be it. It was a good enough movie, but as long as the quality of standard DVD transfers remains as good as it has been the industry is going to continue to have problems finding HD adoption traction. It was pretty tough to see a visual difference between the Iron Man DVD and Blu-Ray on the PS3 from a few feet away from my 46" 1080p screen.

Yeah, people have to stop assuming that just because Blu-Ray and DVD sales aren't 50/50 makes blu-ray a flop.....when you compare it to the same time DVD was released, it's a success

Actually, i would say more the PS3. Sony looses money with every console sale (costs more to manufacture it then selling it). I would say it's a tech flop, but, what the hell, believe what you want to believe.

As for Spore videogame... in 3 weeks it sold 2 million (announced by EA), i would not call it a flop.

I have suspected the PS3 has been breaking even or making profit for a while now. The biggest cost was the Cell processor and Blu-ray diodes and both took a nose dive in price, but a lot of the inards are fairly standard and inexpensive items and they've removed some things to reduce cost.

With Sony saying they want to make money on the PS3 which is why there's been no price drop, I'd be very surprised if it wasn't making money now. They're a hardware manufacturer, they know how to reduce costs quickly.

Exactly, the PS3 is the split image of the PS2 IMO. Slow start, media attacking it with "no games", loss of profit, loss on every console sold, etc. It took a couple years for the PS2 to really get rolling, I can imagine the same for the PS3. It's only a matter of time before the majority of consumers move on to "HD".

It comes with an adapter, if I'm not mistaken, to hook up your headphones to. Once the T-Mobile exclusivity is over and this device gets released on other providers, I'm sure it'll have the improvements needed to take on the iPhone. It already beats it in some areas and some of the problems will be fixed via firmware update.

Android is an operating system for phones, not a specific phone it self. This is just the first of the android phones. My next phone will be an Android, but probably not this particular unit. A guy I work with has an iphone, and it's kind of cool, but there are way to many negatives for me like no replaceable battery. I'm on my third cell I've owned, and given time every one has eventually needed a new battery. Sure you could probably send it to apple or take it to an apple store, but that's a real pain, and you're out a phone till it's fixed. Now as I feel the phones with expandable OS's and a good user interface are the way of the future, it's no surprise how well the iphone is doing. I think the android is likely to offer the same level of performance in the long run, but there is no where near as much hype around these phones as there was around the iphone.

I got the phone last week, I love the thing. Sure it isn't as pretty as an iPhone, but I do like it.

I can't see how people are calling it a flop, when all of the questions regarding software have been nearly answered in the first week of the Android Marketplace. ie: some new video players...etc...etc...

I suppose it's an Apple world afterall, but since I can't get one on T-Mobile, I'm going to say the G1 is certainly worth it. Yep, it's a good phone.

...opinions are like bungholes. Everyone's got one... most of 'em stink.

In reality, the Google phone has been selling really well for a phone which is only available (currently) through T-Mobile service, which is pretty much in third place in the U.S.

Once Motorola makes one at the end of next year and (hopefully) it sells with AT&T or Verizon service, the momentum will continue and will be strong.

As for Blu-ray, people seem to forget that DVD took quite a while to take off, too. In fact, it took forever for DVDs to get as much shelf space at places like Target and Blockbuster Video. This time around, Blu-ray keeps getting more and more shelf space and the adoption rate is growing faster than DVD when it was first being pushed. How quickly people forget that it took about 4 or 5 years before DVD adoption rates started gaining real momentum.

MacBook Air was definitely a flop. This is mainly because Apple spends so much time innovating. This usually translates to the idea of throwing stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks. Some things stick and stick well... iPod... iPhone... etc... Some things never stick. They learn and adapt.

I think Spore is exactly what everything thought it was going to be (and more)... sure, there was backlash over the DRM... but if you are unaffected by this, you likely really enjoyed the game while it lasted.

Vista Home Premium was killed off by such a long delay, so many bloated features, by forcing certain security measures on people who specifically avoided such things as Norton Internet Security and the likes... and by requiring yet another upgrade to processor and hard disk space. At some point, technology really needs to make better use of CPU and HDD, not just keep requiring more and more and more. I remember during the Amiga demo-scene, it was all about taking a reasonably powerful computer with only a 7 MHz processor and make it do things you wouldn't think possible. Nowadays, nobody thinks to make more powerful things run on less powerful machines... it's all about driving the adoption of further processor and HDD upgrades. My guess is that there are some Intel and Seagate lobbyists out there working overtime.

And why is that? Because the list is the truth? open your eyes. The 360 has no future. All you get this Christmas is 2 games that are worth playing but even then, these 2 games suck. Fable 2 has a many bugs, one is where you can't even finish the game because of it. And Gears of War 2 is nothing more than Gears of War 1. It's a short ass piece of crap with no engaging story what so ever and it has a piece of sh!t multilayer (YAY 5 on 5!!!) we're not in the year 1995, OK?

My prediction for this holiday season is poor sales for the console itself. Although many triple A titles are being pushed out nearing the end of the year for the PS3, this will not move the casual buyer who knows next to nothing about gaming to buy 300$ worth of mechandise. Although you can argue that Resistance 2 is real nice, supports 60+ multiplayer, dual-screen coop and all that pizzaz, chances are the people who know about these things are the hardcore gamers that already own a PS3. The casual parent looking to buy a present for their kid probably has never heard of the Resistance franchise, and has a better chance of buying a PS3 because they've heard of Blu-ray. I don't believe enough money will be shelled out by Sony to advertise these titles either like they should. You can expect MS to put down millions in ads for Gears, and with them recently lowering the price of their box also, the numbers of 360s sold this holiday season will most likely outnumber the sales of the PS3.

However, software sales on games and such should blossom this holiday season for Sony, according to that install base you mentioned which is mostly composed of the hardcore I would think. They have a vast collection of titles to be enjoyed this holiday season that any PS3 owner would be happy to have.

I think the Playstation Eye should be up there. There's not really too many good games that use the Playstation Eye, and some of those games can even just use the ps2 eyetoy. Outside of gaming, it makes for a pretty good PC camera, but the unofficial driver software for vista is still being worked on and is feature limited aside from video capture and still image capture.

The MacBook Air is definitely a bonafide flop. It's a trendy gadget, but impractical for any real-world use. A lot of people where I work have them as a status symbol, but to get any real work done they have to clip on the stuff you'd get in a standard MacBook.

What I find funniest is that in order to connect to the wireless network in my office you first have to have a wired connection to download the certificate. No ethernet port, no certificate. So they have to get a USB ethernet dongle, too. You can hardly call the thing a portable computer when you have to have so much crap attached to it to get it to work.
