Google Stadia will likely fail. Here are five reasons why.

"Google recently announced the Stadia game streaming service and hope to launch it in 2019.

The search giant is known to be ambitious and try things they haven’t done before. The thought of playing 4K games at 60 frames per second is a nice, but not everything Google does end up like the home run that Gmail proved to be.

Stadia is ambitious and sounds exciting, but there’s no reason to think it won’t be the next Google Plus. Here are five reasons why the Stadia will fail to unseat PCs and consoles as the platforms of choice for most gamers," writes Game Freaks 365's Dylan Oliver.

Probably because almost every comment this person makes is negative

tar_tar072615d ago

I love new tech. Even if I don’t partake. I love to see tech evolving. If not we would still have ps1 graphics and everything would stay the course.

jojo3192615d ago

1) People hate "evil" corporations even though they power our economy.
2) People like to root for "their" console at the detriment of all others. Even if eliminating them would make their
console worse due to no competition.

CDbiggen2615d ago

I'm also equally hateful, I would like to see it fail. I can't stand Google anyway. Their whole conference screamed "how do you do fellow gamers. Look, we have the Konami code on the back of the controller."

It'll do well though I would think.

DarkKaine2614d ago

Because if it doesn't fail others will follow.
And when that happens:

No more offline gaming.
No more buttersmooth controls.
Gameplay experiences gimped to accommodate high input lag.
No more downloading games to try before you buy when there is no demo.
No more experiences tailored towards specific devices and taking advantage of unique hardware.
Worse than closed source since there is nothing to reverse engineer either.
No more mods.
No more archiving games, dead game means dead forever.

This is why everyone should want it to fail.

Chocoburger2614d ago

@DarkKaine
Yes! Thank you for being intelligent and logical! The more power we give these conglomerates they more they can take away from us!

Game archival is very important for posterity's sake.

indysurfn2614d ago (Edited 2614d ago )

@tar_tar07 new tech does not justify things. For instance is it good for the consumer? Remember how great it was going to be offering to charge you 50 cent to withdraw your money from the exact same bank machine? (now I think it is 2-4 dollars). It was not good for the consumer, and it was already saying them money on tellers.

Remember the xbox reveal? That was all 'new' tech!

I hope it succeeds..I truly believe there is a market for physical games and digital/streaming ..I enjoy having the choice, and making games more available without a $400-$500 box to the people who cant afford it is brilliant.

Only downside I see is there will have to be some big incentives to buy the $400-$500 boxes...besides owning your games physically.

2pacalypsenow2615d ago

Yeah, until they buy a studio or an exclusive and then you’re forced to play it on their shit stream box.

thesoftware7302615d ago

You can use chromecast...it cost like $70
Or you can buy a chromecast t.v.

I dont think google will sell dedicated boxes, they will definitely sell more chromecast..they will make a betterv$80-$100 version every other year.

2pacalypsenow2615d ago

@thexmanone

No, but I also don’t have to eat shit to know it most likely tastes bad.

Army_of_Darkness2615d ago

Complaining about a $400 console, yet your fine paying a monthly fee?? Seriously? Just think about how much you will be paying per month/year and see if it equals up, or goes beyond $400.... Does this google game streamer include games or are they extra? I doubt new game releases will be included in the monthly fee.

indysurfn2614d ago (Edited 2614d ago )

@thexmanone No he has not tried it. Have you? If your implying he has to try it to know if he will like it. I have to say that only a person that can't figure out objectively what will happen has to try a rent-to-never own to realize they don't want it.

I think most people are trying to tell you what it is going to be like so you will not have to learn from the school of hard knocks.

@thesoftware730 There are incentives. Note that the Stadia doesn't offer the standard digital download option either for people who may not care so much about having a game physically but who may prefer being able to have a game saved on their system and accessible at any time, not pending connection to a server. PS4s and XB1s are also multimedia devices. It's possible this Stadia will have support for Netflix among other things, but it won't play blurays, and Google has yet to announce if their box will support other services or if it's just theirs, because that would be equivalent to Sony releasing a PS4 that only allows access to Now and literally nothing else.

indysurfn2614d ago

Permanently renting anything is more expensive. This would just be a big rent feast with a monthly fee! The day I stop paying I have nothing to play. No thank you.

King_Noctis2615d ago

I dislike streaming as much as the next guy, but why do we have (and keep approving) the same damn article everyday wishing Stadia to fail?

porkChop2615d ago

Because people are insecure about their plastic boxes from companies that don't care about them. They need reassurance that their precious consoles aren't going away. It's ridiculous.

Stadia is just another option. If people aren't interested they don't have to use it, that's totally acceptable. But we shouldn't be praying for it to fail.

Competition makes console manufacturers push themselves harder, resulting in better games and products for us.

NXFather2615d ago

Oh no! Grown up spotted!

thesoftware7302614d ago

Exactly!

I'm not against consoles, I will buy them if they keep releasing them.

With that said Sadia seem like a great option for people who dont wanna buy a box, and already have chromecast.

ShellB2615d ago

But those damn data caps 😭

mcstorm2614d ago

Tbh things will change with data caps. I don't know where you are from but in the UK companys like Vodafone do bundles where your data cap excludes netflit or misic stream services. This will happen with gaming to do the road. I also don't think data caps are on any home Internet providers in the UK any more to.

ShellB2614d ago

I don't know mate. I live in the states and have COX as my isp. COX used have unlimited data then they switched over to data cap. Greedy bastards I tell ya. Time will tell for sure.

mcstorm2612d ago

Wow really that's not good. We have data caps on mobile Internet but not on broadband in the UK.

Rachel_Alucard2615d ago

I don't like the idea of this thing succeeding since that just means companies will try to join in the race and remove consumer choice. Thus hurting the industry. Something that also nobody has pointed out but if this device is built around playing high end PC games wouldn't it's success hurt PC as well? I mean why go out and spend hundreds when you can just run off googles systems?

porkChop2615d ago

There will likely always be a market for physical hardware and playing games locally. That is not going away, at least any time even remotely soon.

Rachel_Alucard2615d ago

Yeah but in recent years stores like Gamestop are getting killed off. After Sony removed it's digital cards from retailers, what MS did 6 years ago, and the move to digital I think it might be going dodo soon in 1 or 2 generations.

Veneno2615d ago

Gamestop is getting killed off because Gamestop sucks.

Rachel_Alucard2615d ago

@veneno
Their push to selling merchandise everywhere was not done without reason.

indysurfn2614d ago

haha that is what a BUNCH of fools was saying when Xbox one revealed it was going to be a online console too. But a bunch of intelligent people that can see the obvious put a stop to that! Microsoft reversed ship and now they are in last place instead of out of the industry. Had a chance to be in SOLID second.

indysurfn2614d ago

@Rachel_Alicard.....in the new AND USED business game stop has been fighting bestbuy.....now Walmart....and amazon. So they have WAY more competition, and with there trade in prices and used games prices created some bad customer will.

Kinda like Circuit city did. And now it is hurting them because people remember and have a choice. People also remember what Microsoft tried and will not give them power anymore. Seems like Google is heading down the same road.

porkChop2615d ago

That's a fair point. Though in the case of GameStop their issue was bad professional practices, bad customer relations and service, and for years they refused to admit their strategy wasn't working. GameStop could have turned things around years ago, or at least tried to. But they refused and they doubled down on the things that were driving customers away.

thesoftware7302614d ago

It's to late..they will all join this race.

MS is already got their set up for this year as well.

In Japan we had a few games that were streaming to switch. RE7 and AC.

Gamepass and PSnow(different but still going the service route)

And Sony no longer allowing game cards to be sold at retailers.

Like it or not its inevitable..weather it takes over traditional consoles in the next 10--15 years..we will see.

indysurfn2614d ago

If I had a dime for every time a person said this about something the industries majority consumer does want I would have been retired and rich! The only person that falls for that at this point is the person saying it.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio28d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing28d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9228d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit28d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing28d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

They would be better breaking up what valued assets they still have and put them out to auction for the competition.
There is no more financial gain for them on any trajectory in the entertainment space.
