Grow a pair, Mr. Blog Writer. Your personal opinion is simply that: an opinion. In my opinion, MGS4 is the best MGS game in the series. It exemplifies everything that makes MGS so great, and it ends the series in a way that will never be forgotten.

OK, I'll bite.

Metal Gear Solid 4 did answer all the questions posed by the series... the problem was, it asked as many new ones as were answered. The point of the Patriot's is that they were followers of The Boss, I'm not sure what the writer was expecting from them. Frankly, the answers more than satisfied me. I don't see what is so ridiculous about the Patriot's being formed from people who believed in the greatest Patriot of all's vision.

Complaining about Vamp is the same as complaining about Fortune's ability to deflect bullets, only to find it was a trick of science. It's the same principle and parallels between the games is something Kojima has used effectively.

Complaining about the level variety? OK... I can't argue with that, because there's some parts that aren't "Metal Gear" like, but that's the point, it's a "whirlwind tour" across the world with different objectives. Honestly, I thought the boss fights were pretty good, even though two were a blatant fan service, the rest were decent fights. Also, if you couldn't predict Snake's mother at the end of MGS3, well, what?

the only thing i found disappointing was the lack of gameplay around the end. for now its my favorite for the year, that may change in the weeks ahead though.

Yea, what livespawn said. I was expecting a little more gameplay for MGS 4. But the game is still one of the greatest this gen.

I couldn't disagree more. I loved this game. The graphics were beautiful. The story was a little hard to follow. But the awesome level design and game play were absolutely sick. It's not my favorite game. I rented it. But I have to say that out of all the PS3 exclusive's it is right up there with Uncharted and Heavenly Sword for me.

He's right. The game has no objectives or anything. Everything is predictable. I enjoy metal gear online even though it is pretty lame. They should have stuck with the one giant map theme, and told us to look for liquid using actual espionage. The game is incredibly linear and either sneaking or killing everyone is pointless, because enemies generate constantly. It's a great experience the first play through. I nearly cried. But the game has little replay value.

I think its one of my favorite games of all times. It was the only game that delivered on my insane amount of hypes. Yes the only flaw was that some cutscenes were too long and if you are not a die hard fan then you won't be able to follow it properly. But to say it only have 3-4 hours of gameplay is totally a lie. I played the game on hardest difficult and I skipped the whole cutscene's etc and it took me around 11-12 hours. With cutscenes it took me 18 hours. The gameplay was perfect, the graphics, the animation, the sound and the level design were all perfect. This is one of the best games of all times.

when i played the first 2 acts i was like "WOW BEST GAME EVER!", seriously it really felt that damn good, i can remember some of the most exciting gaming moments i've ever had, especially the very beginning when the opening cutscene turns seamlessly into gameplay and there's geckos and rebels running around (CRAZY exciting). also the taking sides mechanic was completely new and just great.

but then to find out that the remaining acts didnt have NEARLY as much gameplay (on-rails gameplay like the motorcycle chase didnt count for me, it too felt too much like a cutscene), i was so sorely disappointed i felt cheated.

so yeah what im saying is that im one of those people who hated the constant and overblown cutscenes.. but i absotelutely LOVED the gameplay, that's what makes it so tragic. i mean, there were so few areas to sneak through, i didnt even use half of the weapons because i kept thinking i'll use them in later scenarios!

once again, i really really really LOVED controlling Old Snake and just sneaking around everywhere, planning my aproach.. the most exciting gameplay ever, i can never forget how good it was. BUT THERE WASN'T NEARLY ENOUGH OF IT! not even close!!!

oh well, MGS5 is almost confirmed, it will most likely concentrate more on gameplay like MGS3 did :) it will be 11/10.

One of my favorite games of all time, and I've been around since '81. The game is still in my PS3 where it has sat since June 12th.

He has some valid things i agree with (Boss fights and unconventional stealth mechanics that didn't always mesh correctly). But really the STORY? He obviously never liked MGS3. MGS3 is probably the best game out the whole series in my opinion and it's story is deep as well. He didn't get that THE BOSS effected everyone! The Patriots were born because of how Big Boss and Major Tom felt betrayed after they found out the truth. Then they further split because of difference in ideals. Major Tom grew untrustworthy and wanted everything under his control and thought he had the answers for everything. Big Boss tried to counteract this and was "killed" but was forced alive because of Major Tom still viewing him as his best friend.

And Ocelot was just plain badassed. Big Boss shaped what type of soldier he was like The Boss shaped Big Boss in a way. How do you think he was so badassed with those revolvers? Seems like the writer of the article didn't grasp the characters and the story as much as he thought he did. Everything makes more or less perfect sense to me as far as the Patriots and things like that. But i actually feel that act's 4 and 5 was the best and they probably had the least confrontation. I felt those returned to old school stealth. You didn't have many weapons you could use to get passed them and you actually had to sneak.

The gameplay was a bit of a letdown for me but the story was amazing. I got 20 hours out of gameplay my first run through. Then i beat the game in 5 hours to get foxhound. I don't think it's "only 6 hours of gameplay" it's only if you rush through the game and be nearly perfect will it last that long.

1) CANNOT SHOOT THROUGH CAR WINDOWS...(almost any shooter u can shoot through windows)
2) PURCHASE WEAPONS ANYTIME (yeah right, made it so easy)
3) TOOK ME ABOUT 45 MINS TO AN HOUR TO GET ONLINE..(bs right there)

The game needed longer cut scenes. Because the acual game sucked.

gameplay: i felt really shaky going into it, but i was enjoying it by the end of chapter 1. it's complex, but it allows for several different play styles, and in the end, you're rewarded if you played stealthily, like you would in another Metal Gear.
story: Kojima had two choices. utterly confuse us with needless, incomprehensible plot twists over the course of 15 hours. or cram it all in the end for the people who actually care anymore, while delivering a well-told, followable story for the majority of the game. I'm quite glad he went with the second one. If this guy honestly expected it to end up making any sense, he wasn't paying attention in Sons of Liberty. And frankly, I just like it because it gave an excellent sense of closure which no other game seems to have delivered. no cliffhangers. conflicts, both external and internal, get resolved. and Otacon gets laid. I was more concerned about the character's fates than anything else, the patriots weren't really a great concern to me when i learned Snake was pretty much gonna have to die.
Chapter 4: that part was my favorite level in any video game. ever. sure, stealth didn't really play into it much. but you got another epic sniper fight, a rail gun, and you fight a metal gear WITH ANOTHER METAL GEAR. Nothing could make that chapter un-epic.

I personally like MGS4 better than Gears although I liked Uncharted better than both. I guess I'm just strange that way...

Now I like LBP better than all three.

I wouldn't call it a disappointment. It wasn't my favorite type of game, but it was very well done. High production values and solid gameplay. I thought that it relied too much on the cinema aspects to move the story along, but that's just Kojima's style.

I'm not a MGS fanatic and have not kept up with the story all that much though I went through the retrospective so I'll leave that up to them gamers.

I enjoyed the game for what it was not what it wasn't. Of course Loyal MGS fans will see and understand the shortcomings based on their long-term experience.

But I do agree there needed to be more Action.

people here know I prefer my 360 but... MGS4 was my FIRST MGS game an I must say that I think it was one of the BEST games I EVER played. graphics were good, story was good EVERYTHING!! but for some reason I couldn't pull myself to do another play through. I tried, but I got bored quickly. the extra added stuff like the cry or rage darts was funny but not enough to make me replay the game again. but it took me about 23 hours watching all the cut scenes an codecs scenes.Great game non the less!!

It did bombed because of the dead online. And it probably bombed because of the recycling of boss characters like the japanese game developers always do.

As good as it was, I was slightly disappointed; if it was supposed to be the last MGS game (with Snake as the protag) then I expected there to be loads of extras, but instead there's only a slight trickling of new unlockables every now and again from Konami.

I expected to play as Raiden, Vamp, B and B squad members, et cetera, but all I got was the solar gun and and great looking character and weapons models and animations: fire was ugly, little destructibility, et cetera.

Now, for ANY OTHER game that would have been more than enough, but this was heralded as "The Last One," and it didn't deliver the ultimate experience I wanted. It more than delivered in many places, no doubt, but it didn't fulfill my every need (9.0 but not a ten)...that's all.

i absolutely loved this game, i put 24 hours including with cutscene. i also loved the online.

the "MGS4 on 360" rumors have been debunked yet again, and once again, it's no longer all that great....

Bottom line, because it was not closely related to the actual series and in my opinion the movie, or should I say like most of you call it the game sucks, and does not deserve more than 6.5 out of 10 case close.
A 4 hour game for 60 dollars does not deserve to be called a game.

This guy misses the point with the story. The patriots were the AI all along. This was heavily hinted at in MGS2. It's also a jokey reference to the fact that you're doing whatever the "AI", or PS3, is telling you to do at any time.

The disappointments I had with the story were that the ideas in MGS2 (such as the system to stop fortune getting shot, liquid's arm) were REPLACED by the SOP system and nanomachines in ocelot. That's inconsistent - but then MGS2 was never planned to have a sequel.

I'm a hardcore MGS fanboy and i didn't think there was anything wrong with MGS4, it may of been a little different from the rest but they wanted to make it more accessible for other people as it previously wasn't.

I'm glad they did, more people got sucked into this amazingly epic franchise.

It is my best game of this generation, it is one of the best games i have ever played.

The whole cutscene thing has been with the franchise for a long time. Plus, Kojima himself said that the game was made for the FANS not the NEWCOMERS. I've played only MGS2 and MGS3 and the cutscenes were pretty long so the fact that people say that MGS4 was more of a movie doesn't surprise me.

I know it must suck knowing you have to step over yourself to go and buy ps3 and enjoy amazing games it has and those coming out. Man it's like some High schooler wrote this...misusing words, parts of sentences making no sense...was the editor out? hah but seriously...

I have come to realize that with this final installment in the MGS games people will either throughly enjoy this or maybe not so much. Maybe a few old school fans might not like it, but once again with the story you get thrown some curve balls. I dunno if I'd call the whole Ocelot deal lame/gay as he did, but it was a little less exciting than I thought. But the whole Zero, Sigint, and Paramedic thing was a twist that I thought was appropriate. Sigint being the DARPA Chief was something I didn't expect, but it makes sense that he would go on to do something like that...I guess in a character/story perspective. One thing I guess I might side with is the nanomachines and Vamp...but at the same time I think that was more realistic in the sense that Vamp didn't really have some special ability or anything cause that would have been lame...but then again some characters have this. Look at Volgin, Vamp, Mantis, the Sorrow etc etc - some characters do have slightly exaggerated "powers/abilities" if you will so I guess I could have accepted that in this case. But seeing as they were making these nanomachines capable of any and everything it seemed to fit more...like with Johnny and his shots...it all makes sense and so I guess I'm a little surprised that this guy seemed to be baffled by all of this. And with the MGS games being so "out there" in the sense that weird things like this have always been prevalent, throughout all the games, it seems kinda weird to be complaining about them now.

But either way, I enjoyed the sh*t out of this game...I really did. I've played through it nearly 5 times not to get my "monetary value" out of it or anything but because I enjoy all the MGS games so much I tend to replay them...I couldn't tell you how many times I played MGS1 over the years...classic. All of these games are classics.

It just seems as if the guy writing this was a big of a fan as he claims he wouldn't be making an argument for some of these things as they're classic MGS twists. And him complaining about going back to Shadow Moses, it seems as if nearly every single MGS fan loved this..sure it's all a matter of opinion, but dayum, dude makes it seems as if it was really that bad of a decision.

Some of the scenes were pretty boring like Eastern Europe or Act 5 (there were only few rooms). Still it's a great game.

so um.... they dont see the fact that Kojima answered all the questions from the other MGSs'. i found this well worth it me and my brother played it and hes on his 5th run even though he has gotten all the weapons and emblems without any of the codes to unlock the guns. Kojima gave a very nice ending. the Microwave part on the ship was fckin great even though i failed that part like 5 times cause my thumb started to hurt. and then the straight hand to hand combat with ocelot was fun and bashing his head into the ship. and we got to see what happened at the end to the original snake. we found out what happened to everyone from MGS3.

my 1st play i did it in 18 hours, watching the cut scenes and codec things. i wasn't trying to complete it in any certain amount of time. i just played it. thats how long it took me. and in my opinion it was one of the best video games i have ever played. peace

Anybody who is a fan of Metal Gear Solid would agree that this is one of the best in the series. The ONLY disappointing segment of this game was the implementation of the return of Big Boss, which just showed that Kojima acknowledged fanboy requests and acted upon them.

It was a brilliant end for Snake - he has nothing left to fight for... his father's dead, his mother's dead... the world's biggest threat, Liquid, has been defeated... Solidus is no more.. what else could he fight for? Not to mention that the Patriots no longer exist. Anybody who disagrees with this is clearly NO real fan of the MGS series, in which case don't even bother commenting on this article.

As for the MGS games; the only one i've played was Twin Snakes on the Gamecube, thought it was cool, but I have a friend who's a big fan of the series (he has played them all and jsut beat MGS4) who said that 4 had way to many cutscences for its own good, and wasn't much of a challenge after you get a little familiar with it. I know a bunch of PS3 fanboys will think i'm making that up, but i'm not typing this to convince them, i'm typing this to state a fact.

The game was really good but definitely not my favorite in the series. It just didn't grab my attention like the first two and the freaking cutscenes were too many too often for my taste.

I find it interesting that all kinds of anti-PS3 articles and blog posts pop up in the months leading up to Christmas. It seems every type of FUD from speculation of poor future sales, to random blogs of technical issues with the system and games, to articles like these bashing exclusives (even ones that have been out for several months) start popping up from everywhere in recent weeks. i expect even more as Christmas approaches. Yes, the game is short, if you go running and gunning. But if you know how to play Metal Gear, you know the little joys and wonders to be found in the nooks and crannies. a real fan of the series probably took their sweet old time, while the "dur! bullets make them die!" gamers found a shorter experience.
To sum it up MGS is best played by those who see blips on their radar and think "oh, i should avoid those," not the ones who think "oh, i should kill those"
