Talha Amjad writes: "When Bioware's Anthem was first revealed at E3 2017, it appeared to be something new. The visuals were on point and the game appeared to be very dynamic indeed."

It's unreal how much they downgraded or cut from the original videos

It's as bad as how much Aliens Colonial Marines changed

Relientk772647d ago

When Anthem was revealed you had Javelins together fighting this giant creature and it looked badass. To my understanding, you cannot fight these giant creatures in the game and that's BS.

KillBill2647d ago

@Relientk77 - I have to imagine you have never played the game and simply are listening to others that have not played the game too? Every enemy shown in the E3 2017 demo was able to be fought in game.

The point of contention was the dynamic enemy interaction in the game. Being that the creatures did not behave in scripted fashion as they did in the demo. And the giant strider vehicles are seen only as immobile platforms in game and you don't see any moving or being attacked as was seen in the video.

Another area of contention was the idea that players could simply drop into your game which is not possible in the game as you only have the option to party up prior to entering a mission.

You also can't pick up weapons in game as suggested in early video. You earn items at end of mission.

And for sure the mortar and ranger gear item is not as formidable as pictured in the video. Especially not against an enemy colossus that is going to shrug most of a single blast like that off and still have a good bulk of its health remaining. Looked good in video but weapons don't pack nearly that punch for the most part.

They also make it appear like flying has no restrictions in the video while in actuality flying is now metered and very limiting in nature forcing a very structured use of it in mission.

It's "UNREAL" ! HAHA I see what you did there! Nice one! Fully agree with the other part of your message too.

TK-662648d ago

It's a common thing from AAA's this gen. Even The Witcher 3 had a huge downgrade.

AngelicIceDiamond2648d ago

These trends need to end because its misleading and damn near lying to us. Target renders shouldn't exist next gen, everything needs to be in-game we see that in allot of AAA's now sure but it needs to be completely eliminated next gen.

indysurfn2646d ago

Too me a lie is a intent to deceive. Soooooo. it's more then damn near lying. A mistake I am willing to excuse.

Witcher’s was just visual. In anthem they revealed gameplay elements that aren’t in the game.

AspiringProGenji2647d ago

Such as walking giant machines in the background

Hydrazinezz2647d ago

Walking machines, the giant creatures in the wild? What about how they showed you could pick up an item and equip it on the go??? Where was that in the final product???? I had to fo through three loading screens to put an item on and use it.

TK-662647d ago (Edited 2647d ago )

@AspiringProGenji

Lol, walking machines in the background eh? So are the visual options that would've made the Witcher 3's background look better not exactly the same then? Background visuals are not gameplay.

@Hyrazinezz

"Walking machines, the giant creatures in the wild?"

Walking machines exist in the game and giant creatures in the wild also exist. You need to be more specific.

"What about how they showed you could pick up an item and equip it on the go???"

Thats a UI feature. I can ask the exact same with The Witcher 3's in game menus being completely different to the stage demos.

indysurfn2646d ago

@Sw33tBoi watch the video, he talks about the guy that appears and starts talking to you about a mission that does not even happen in the final game. In fact this character does not even exist in the final game.

Wow you can really tell the difference... I still think the highest value of the game is its graphics, but boy they downgraded a lot from the original reveal! Is just so sad, I was genuinely excited for this game, 2 years waiting! And ends up being a huge disappointment...

TheGamez1002648d ago (Edited 2648d ago )

Smh, most AAA devs do this and they do succeed tricking ppl.

Daeloki2648d ago

Downgrade or not, I still think it looks amazing, and that's playing on basic PS4.

OnlyThoseOnTheFence2647d ago

The actual gameplay comparison is really splitting hairs. If anything the 2017 gameplay is washed-out and has a ton of motion blur. The current gameplay actually looks better. Plus some of the still photos they compare are deliberately positioned so that less can be seen off into the distance, making the landscape look less detailed in the current build when it's largely the same.

GamingIVfun2647d ago

The game looks amazing. Some of the vistas are absolutely beautiful. The changes in the market place make sense for the most part, wouldn't want to wade through a ton NPC's everytime you walk through it, and your will walk through the market quite a bit. the character animation are pretty darn good also especially during cut scenes. All games change during development, mostly for design purposes but also for optimization. It's a pretty good game if you don't spend all your time trying to find fault with it, aside from people having technical issues with the game. I'm playing on PC and the game runs pretty well for me, but I can't speak for others that are having issues.

Could Anthem live on? Tech allowing local server hosting existed, former executive producer says

BioWare's multiplayer shooter Anthem was terminated this week because EA no longer wanted to maintain servers for people to play the game on, and without them, no one can play the game. But the former executive producer of Anthem has revealed that BioWare had technology working, close to the game's release, that would enable us to host our own servers to play the game on.

EA/Bioware should allow us to host our own servers to let this game live on.

Christopher139d ago

I'd be fine just playing it as a localhost and dumb as rocks AI bots. Just give me the choice.

Anthem Players Report Download Errors A Week Before Shutdown

BioWare and EA had previously said the game would be accessible to those who owned it until it shuts down on January 12.

Never buy online games unless there is some kind of refund policy.

Only days remain before EA will switch off the servers to BioWare's ill-fated multiplayer game

Time flies (like a Javelin suit): there are only 10 days left to play BioWare's ill-fated multiplayer game Anthem before the servers are switched off, presumably forever.

In my opinion, Anthem was a good IP that was worthy of a no man's sky or cyberpunk 2077 treatment.

To this day, their sub reddit is active and I was able to get into a game quickly a few weeks ago when I booted it up.

It is a shame EA and Bioware didn't want to give the game the overhaul it needed to turn it into a competent looter shooter.

GamerRN151d ago

They were close to releasing the overhauled version and then EA cancelled it

TheGamersDojo149d ago

I wholeheartedly agree. If ANY game deserved to get the rework/relaunch it deserved it was this one. More than literally any other. Even over FFXIV, No Mans Sky etc.

SlothLordPootus152d ago

I just finished this up a couple days ago. Although it's a bit repetitive and the story is meh, the game feels great to play. Even if you can only hop on the game for a couple hours before it shuts down, I think it's worth it.

chicken_in_the_corn152d ago

Really enjoyed this. Shame to see it go.

Software_Lover151d ago

I didnt know servers were still up. I could have been playing!!!

2nd comment attempt (1st doesn’t appear & this may register as duplicate):

They can spend billions to buy or get bought but they can’t spend a fraction of that to fix or overhaul a game that could have been truly special, smh.
