To me, there are two huge problems with Anthem. The number and length of loading screens and the ridiculous "downtime" between many story missions while everyone in your party goes through all the "conversations". Other than those two points, my friends and I are having a lot of fun with the game. Hopefully the loading times can be reduced with patches, but the number of them and the downtime I think we are stuck with.

The people who like Crackdown 3 will love this game then. They love bland, boring and repetitive games.

Played the beta for hours because I really wanted to like it. I like the Javelins and the world is beautiful but the rest if below average.

This is very interesting. I have yet to play it but I have to wonder if it really is boring OR are we as gamers just expecting more that no one can really deliver anymore. I ask this because I'm starting to play through my back log of very highly acclaimed games that I've accumulated over the years but honestly, I find many of them....well, boring.

We wouldn't be saying these games were boring had they been released in 1997, that's for damn sure but maybe we've played too many of the same games and now a lot of games just tend to be too similar to each other. I fired up Dragon Age Inquisition for the first time a few months ago and all I could feel was "God, I've played this already like several dozen times now.." even though it was my first time going in. I would have killed for a game like this 10-15 years ago but I've played so many similar games now it feels like I've already done this.

So I ask, IS THE GAME REALLY BORING? Or is it just us? Are we expecting far too much now that whatever great game comes out, we're just immediately bored? I find it difficult to get excited for most games now a days, something inconceivable to 15 year old me. But it's true, maybe I'm just getting old. Then again, maybe ANTHEM really is just boring, like I said, I haven't played it yet.

Boring just like Destiny

I almost wrote it off due to all the negative press, but geez im glad i went with my own instinct. Game is alot of fun! Im playing it on my ps pro with a 4k oled and it looks beautiful! Might be the best looking game on a console. Up there with god of war. There was a meaty size patch, so that might have fixed the loading times.

Cant stop looking all around at the scenery. I have not run into any loading problems at all, but ive only been playing expedition alone for now. Maybe it gets worse playing multiplayer? Gunplay feels good, nice and responsive. I like what ive seen so far, so im a little confused on what all the hate is about. Microtransactions and the fact its ea i guess. I get the microtransaction stuff, as im against all that as well, but comon you have to admit the game looks and plays amazing!

I think alot of hype going around about hating this game. Seems like its the hip thing to do. Kinda like how it is with hating on Trump, haha. My only complaint is you have to be signed online to the ea servers to play single player and i had it paused for awhile during a mission and got signed out for taking so long. Had to restart my mission. Oh well,.no biggie, still digging on Anthem. Its better than people have made it out to be.

No the problem is that it's downright garbage.

The game has no sustainable content to keep people playing it until they release something new on top of all the other issues. My biggest gripe is how none of the loot you get has any effect on your appearance and all of it is just stat numbers, the actual appearance options are locked behind insane grind and they are bland as all hell so I can't see many forking for real money for them. At least Destiny made each piece of gear a passive trophy.

The problem is all these sites post drivel about the game to get hits...and low and behold, the topic is heating up like every single Anthem hate article. The bad part is most of the people who haven't played 1 min of it are the ones being the most vocal and bashing it.

I just don't get all the shade on Anthem. I am having a blast playing it. The combat is fantastic! Yes, there IS room for improvement. That said what is on offer is quite fun.

I look forward to it's continued growth.

Anthem, Destiny/Destiny 2, Battlefront 2 (SP), a host of other single player travesties. It’s like many devs don’t quite understand how to make fun single-player, or story driven experiences anymore, at least many formerly top teams that have, perhaps, been tainted by unhealthy acquisitions...

To some maybe, to others it isn't. Blanket statements on the other hand, are boring. I've been having a blast with the game, and I've been playing alone cause all my friends passed.

I’m enjoying the hell out of causing huge explosions and killing masses of mobs. I think they got that part right. They’re going to need a lot of endgame content to keep people playing. They should try to add a larger PvE type of dungeon/raid with 10 people or something. They have a clan system, utilize it by allowing larger groups of players be able to play together.

Pretty much sums up my biggest issue with it. I found a lot of the criticism to be overblown, but the base gameplay is just...boring. The guns don't really have any impact and I didn't really find them satisfying to use, the abilities are better but they have too many cooldowns. Throw in a total lack of enemy variety and shitty AI and it's just meh.

If you think Anthem is boring, Read Dead Redemption 2 must have been a total snooze fest with long as loading as well.

Then don't play it, simple as that. Don't come online in all caps lock like ANTHEM IS BORING.

I tend to agree on criticisms of the game. Anthem really shines at times and in small doses I find it shines more often as you set out for a specific mission and get into it pretty quickly. However the moment you get into longer play sessions the game really starts to loose its luster and the blemishes and warts begin to show.
* Getting new loot should feel great and should be the hook to grinding more but sadly the loot you get just feels a tad underwhelming and the fact that you have to end your expedition to see/use what you got just really slows the gameplay loop down even further. So in a long play session you just are collecting a bunch of unknown bits and bobs that you have no idea if its good or not until you quit and then you get an avalanche of stuff you have to manage in a not so exciting inventory screen.
* How is there no kind of navigation system for the HUD and no way to actually place a waypoint so your teammates and you can all rally to the point?
* The feeling of flying in game is fantastic... and yet there is more or less ZERO use for it other than a travel mechanic. Nothing interesting is done with flying other than fly to your mission. How is it you can't make a strafe attack run on enemies? All you can do is fire from hover? On the mission type front there is never never a patrol a zone looking for XYZ, No kind of escort mission, No gated races or time score challenges which seem like a no brainer.
* One of my biggest issues is the story - I don't hate the world they built. I actually quite like it. But something Destiny did really well, something the Division did really well... heck pretty much every successful open world game has done well is to give me a purpose for being and doing. Never do you feel like you are under threat or that your home (base) is under threat. There is no "bad guy or group" to point at in the opening to say he or they must be stopped. There is no plot surfaced saying this group is endangering you/us. Nothing saying you have to go out in the world and help us uncover XYZ as if we don't our world will be destroyed. Its just hey in this world there are some bad guys, don't really know why but they hate you so if you see them you should just kill them and we want to collect stuff because well why not? I mean I know in some of their lore bits they flesh out who the Scar and the call to the Anthem but frankly none of it has an urgency to solve or defeat the scar as they are no bigger threat to you than the birds. Frankly if everyone just stayed inside Fort Tarsis it seems like all would be happy so why leave?

And that last sentence really is the issue for Anthem in a nutshell... what / why should we leave Fort Tarsis? Bioware needs to answer that question quickly or this game is putting its other foot in the grave.

I was interested in the game but I decided to wait to pick it up later. A friend hooked me up with a copy and I am absolutely loving the game.

No, the biggest problem is that it's unnecessary. Too many games like this. Enough.

If only this game had a good one player campaign... and multiplayer as an added option... but Bioware is not Bungie (well Bungie is not Bungie anymore).
