Anthem Day One Update Breaks HDR on PS4

There's an Anthem HDR bug that's been introduced in the game's day one update which is out now.

Father__Merrin2655d ago

Anthem is going to be a failure imo think destiny with only 1 location

JeffGUNZ2655d ago

Eh, Destiny loot included armor, where as this game the armor is just cosmetic. To me, this game is basically a worse Mass Effect Andromeda but now I can fly and get the same seven weapons over and over.

RpgSama2655d ago

Yeah, they built a looter/shooter where the armor pieces don't give you stats and has no weapon variety, let me repeat that, a Looter Shooter with NO loot

rdgneoz32655d ago (Edited 2655d ago )

The components are what gives you stats. You can customize your the 6 sections of your armor to be different material types and colors (Destiny you can do 1 color theme for your armor and can't change the material), and mix and match the armor sets how you want to look.

As for weapon variety, there are 9 types of weapons with each having 2 or 3 varieties (3 types of grenades launchers or autocannons/belt fed machine guns for example, assault rifle as 1 group with the classic full auto or burst [pulse rifle for comparison] fire types) within that type that function differently. It's actually very similar to destiny that has like ~16 weapon classes total (with some being similar types like Anthem as pulse / assault are both rifles, drum / single shot grenade launchers are both grenade launchers, and 1 type is just swords). But if you want to be a stickler, Anthem has more weapon varieties in total.

As for the bug, hopefully the fix it quickly.

If you played the demo, you'll know that there are components and other parts that can be customized. Each weapon and component can and will drastically change your loadout. You can have ice damage or have a build focus on fire damage, etc.

It's very complex, though BioWare hasn't explained it well at all.

***It's very complex, though BioWare hasn't explained it well at all.***

I'm not sure I'd go with complex, but definitely not as vanilla as some people make it. There are a good number of customizable options, but many of them feel like they won't be utilized much because other builds greatly outshine them in comparison let alone don't rely on situational elements.

This seems common lately with hdr, rdr2, resident evil, and some others

Seems devs think they can implement easily

rainslacker2654d ago

It's really not that hard to implement, but if I had to guess, updates aren't updating the HDR metadata with a brand new metadata table, and instead using an append method for the added content. But, when you do this, and the update has core meta data that doesn't match up with the older data, it causes all sorts of problems.

It shouldn't be a hard fix, and is something that's talked about at length in the SDK's on how to implement HDR, which basically just consists of building a metadata chart, and selecting the option to be on during your build.

I've run into a few times where I've screwed up HDR in updating my software, and the above was often the cause, and was an easy fix. Now it's the first thing that I look at if something gets screwed up, or a dev asks for tech support from one of my tools. The other reason would be improper meta data which doesn't point to where it needs to to display the pixel.

Does the environment change much? Or is it all in the jungle?

DigitallyAfflicted2655d ago

@rdgneoz3 waist of time trying to explain anything to this lot...

True is that if you liked Destiny 1 and not so much destiny 2 you will like anthem.

Game is out not even 1 day yet and it gets all that hate from people which didn’t even played it yet.

Relientk772655d ago

So glad I didn't buy this trainwreck. I played the alpha and beta. Tons of loading screens and constantly losing connection and crashing the game. It was just frustrating.

I have interest in Anthem but I'll buy later once they get it together including a price drop.

Omnisonne2655d ago

It's ridiculous how so many games have massive bugs or issues on release nowadays. Waiting 6-12 months after release for patches almost becomes a requisite.

mkis0072655d ago

My only interest in this game is flying around exploring.

Redlife2g2655d ago

I've been playing this for the past 4 days...your exploration will be done by that time

mkis0072655d ago (Edited 2655d ago )

Eh then maybe ill just redbox it...honestly why cant anyone give us a legit flying openworld game.

BrettAwesome2654d ago

Ghost Recon Wildlands. Far Cry 5. Those games have fantastic worlds to explore by plane/helicopter

Eidolon2655d ago

Well, it would be a big waste of money if you're only interested in that. That was not how the game was designed. You saw hovering mech suits and assumed you can explore a VAST OPEN WORLD? lol

mkis0072655d ago

It does look that way.

Eidolon2655d ago

It is open world, but it isn't as vast as you think, movement is constrained.

Eidolon2655d ago (Edited 2655d ago )

Do not pay $60 thinking you're going to have a lot of fun exploring, this isn't the type of game. Shoot you can pay 3-4 bucks (on sale) for "Valley" and have a good experience. $60, for exploration? Yeah, no, just rent it Anthem if just for exploration. It's also not worth $60 as a whole. But I paid $15 for Destiny 2 and was mehh, but love Halo. So, it might just be me.

Christopher2654d ago

They did say in their first demo of the flying that it allows you to explore the vast world if Anthem... Paraphrasing it, but that's what they said.

I predict BioWare getting shutdown by next year.

Could Anthem live on? Tech allowing local server hosting existed, former executive producer says

BioWare's multiplayer shooter Anthem was terminated this week because EA no longer wanted to maintain servers for people to play the game on, and without them, no one can play the game. But the former executive producer of Anthem has revealed that BioWare had technology working, close to the game's release, that would enable us to host our own servers to play the game on.

EA/Bioware should allow us to host our own servers to let this game live on.

Christopher135d ago

I'd be fine just playing it as a localhost and dumb as rocks AI bots. Just give me the choice.

Anthem Players Report Download Errors A Week Before Shutdown

BioWare and EA had previously said the game would be accessible to those who owned it until it shuts down on January 12.

anast145d ago

Never buy online games unless there is some kind of refund policy.

Only days remain before EA will switch off the servers to BioWare's ill-fated multiplayer game

Time flies (like a Javelin suit): there are only 10 days left to play BioWare's ill-fated multiplayer game Anthem before the servers are switched off, presumably forever.

In my opinion, Anthem was a good IP that was worthy of a no man's sky or cyberpunk 2077 treatment.

To this day, their sub reddit is active and I was able to get into a game quickly a few weeks ago when I booted it up.

It is a shame EA and Bioware didn't want to give the game the overhaul it needed to turn it into a competent looter shooter.

GamerRN147d ago

They were close to releasing the overhauled version and then EA cancelled it

TheGamersDojo145d ago

I wholeheartedly agree. If ANY game deserved to get the rework/relaunch it deserved it was this one. More than literally any other. Even over FFXIV, No Mans Sky etc.

SlothLordPootus148d ago

I just finished this up a couple days ago. Although it's a bit repetitive and the story is meh, the game feels great to play. Even if you can only hop on the game for a couple hours before it shuts down, I think it's worth it.

chicken_in_the_corn148d ago

Really enjoyed this. Shame to see it go.

Software_Lover147d ago

I didnt know servers were still up. I could have been playing!!!

2nd comment attempt (1st doesn’t appear & this may register as duplicate):

They can spend billions to buy or get bought but they can’t spend a fraction of that to fix or overhaul a game that could have been truly special, smh.
