Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) Not Fully Compatible With Labo

Nintendo announced the new Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) this morning. The new model will be a great fit for some but doesn't seem to be what others were hoping for. The system will not fully support all Labo sets.

So stupid, why not just make oled of exact same size?
Labo accessory for oled switch incoming 😂 pigeons brace yourselves

I'm surprised that Nintendo even made a oled display. That's a shock to me but I get what you're saying

CrimsonWing691772d ago

That’s pretty weird. Seems like you’re better off sticking with the older model and waiting for an actual new next-gen console

I think it depends on who you are. If you mostly play docked, probably. I see little reason to upgrade since the new speakers/kickstand/screen won't help you. Extra storage is nice and so is the LAN built into the dock, but you can do that with an adapter and an SD card which are way cheaper.

For those who play mostly handheld (like me), upgrading may make more sense. Bigger screen, better kickstand, improved speakers, way better battery life for someone still on the launch model, could make a lot of sense. I'm leaning toward grabbing one (The white will look nice next to my PS5 too) but not fully sold.

So You dont use headphones when playing on the go ?

AM_Thorn1772d ago

I actually don't use headphones most of the time in handheld mode because most of my headphones are Bluetooth at this point, which the Switch doesn't support. I either play with volume off or speakers 90% of the time. I do have an old pair of wired ones I'll break out now and then (usually if my wife is sleeping late at night). To be fair though, I play mostly at home, not on the go. I just like handheld mode because my wife can watch a show she wants while I play a game and we still get to spend time together.

Battery life is the same according to euro gamer. Where did you see not better but “way better?”

AM_Thorn1772d ago (Edited 1772d ago )

That's why I said way better "for someone still on the launch model". Nintendo did a refresh in 2019 which significantly expanded the battery life. This is saying the same battery life as the current model. But that's way better than the launch model. Like, on average often twice as long. IGN did a good breakdown of it in the past.

https://www.ign.com/wikis/n...

That's a big benefit for someone who is still on the launch version thinking about upgrading. The better battery life alone wasn't enough to get me to buy the system again but add the rest of this in and it gets more interesting.

There is a pretty easy fix for this. since the issue stems from the way the labo fits around the screen (in certain situations), the new screen is actually the same size as the original, it just has an increased viewing size. So from 6.2" viewable to 7" viewable... just cut the cardboard to be slightly bigger than it is for the viewing opening. So you can then see edge to edge with the newer model like the previous model (which would now show more of the bezel in that same cut out cardboard).

AM_Thorn1772d ago

That may solve it for some. I think it may not for others though. The system is slightly larger actually. Only .1 inch wider which shouldn't normally be a big difference, but some of these fit on pretty snugly. It wouldn't surprise me if some just don't fit.

onyzero1772d ago

I mean, they could just push an update that shrinks the display output to the right size on the new model...crazy I know!

StoneyYoshi1772d ago (Edited 1772d ago )

Let's be real here. Who actually uses labo and if they did, who still uses it?
