"Sonic the Hedgehog, once a staple of the gaming community, has fallen quite far from his once high pedestal of fame. Instead of going back to a formula that worked, it seems that Sega has wanted to try out a few other ideas for their fuzzy blue mascot. Now the question is, with all the change that Sonic has undergone, is he even still the same hedgehog we knew and loved back on the Genesis?"

In an interview, SEGA Sound Team lead composer Tomoya Ohtani revealed that Sonic’s global music success didn’t come from chasing trends overseas.
I think this is how Japanese devs need to think. Catering to the west is a terrible idea. I personally, seek out Japanese developed games because they bring a unique experience to gaming. They just stand out more that way.
The sonic music is iconic the mega drive games were some of the best on the system but i wouldn't say they were free of western influence especially since 3 was composed in part by Michael Jackson
But honestly most of the crush 40 soundtrack music lives in my head rent free
Uhhh that's a strange thing for him to say. Even in the interview he admits to listening to a lot of western music.

The popular Sega franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog, has been really successful in recent years, forging paths for the recent upcoming titles.
i loved sonic when he was on the snes :) Sega ruined him with the genesis games
Some games/series were never meant to be brought into the 3D world. Sonic is one of them.
I shall miss sonic and hope for his return to simply running about stages, jumping on enemies and thwarting Doctor Robotnik's (How did his name get changed to Eggman?) Plans. Though I will buy Sonic Unleashed and give it a test run, overall I hope they do with sonic the same way Megaman went, right back to the basics :). Whether it be slapped on PSN,Live, and WiiWare, or simply put onto a disc it'd be a first buy for me.
