Nintendo Switch Reportedly Adding VR Support This Year

According to a report by Nintendo World Report, Nintendo is rumoured to be making its first VR announcement later this year. So according to multiple sources, a select number of traditional first-party software titles may receive VR support in the coming months. Over the years, Nintendo has tried to downplay the company’s interest in VR.

I don't get why people are hyped for this, honestly VR doesn't even look great on PSVR, you know, a much more powerful console with 1080p output. Now a severely downgraded console with a 720p display, sounds horrible, but I do really want to see what games Nintendo makes in VR, just release better hardware first.

I'm just hyped to see the tech continuing to be adopted.

Mario and Luigi Mansion in VR

This is pretty awesome if true. The skies the limit in vr and Nintendo would do amazing things. Don’t need realistic graphics either as those of us who played Astro Bot know.

Kosic2620d ago

First thing that came to mind. It'll be a poor experience if it's just a clip for the switch in a plastic shell.

jonivtec2620d ago

It will probably be a standalone unit...with its own gpu for one eye and the switch for the other...just my 2 cents...

rainslacker2620d ago

Star Fox VR would be epic. And NIntendo style doesn't make everything have to look realistic so it's art style may work well in VR for something like that, which is more vector style graphics anyhow.

Unless they release a new higher resolution and smaller sized switch then it would be the worst VR since virtual boy

Funny. I had a virtual boy and thought it was awesome. Played waterworld, red alert and mario tennis all the time.

Segata2620d ago

Virtual Boy wasn't VR. It was a 3D Game Boy

Imalwaysright2620d ago

Virtual boy was just a screen close to your eyes. It wasn't VR.

Not a chance the current switch can run current vr games at 90fps+. Dont see any legitimacy to this. It would be way too big to use as the screen as well.

anonymousfan2621d ago

Low res, underpowered, too heavy, unreliable remote tracking... I feel like this article is a joke!

Amplitude2620d ago (Edited 2620d ago )

The Galaxy S8+ does it exceptionally well with the Gear VR and motion controllers that Oculus and Samsung released (its different than Google Cardboard or those little plastic $20 VR headsets at Best Buy you throw your phone into). Actually technically higher res than even an Oculus and its powerful enough to run some really good games super well.

That being said an S8+ is significately better than a Switch in terms of raw power but its still possible that the Switch could pull it off for some smaller games. Even the Note 5 with a Gear VR was really well done with very minor screen door effect and no frame rate issues whatsoever.

For the Switch though? The screen would have to be pretty far from your face when you consider the actual physical screen size- which would be insanely heavy. It's literally a tablet. A really low resolution tablet as well. Imagine the screen door effect lmao it'd be so bad
For those reasons alone (and a million other reasons that im too lazy to type rn) i think this is bs

mkis0072620d ago

Ya the switch resolution is probably enough to discount this. It would be cool for more comanies to jump in to vr though.

false rumor, not in current hardware, maybe something with AR
