Nope not a chance, but they don't need to, all they have to do is produce quality games and people will buy their console/service, don't need to be first or second, as long as they are making a profit then that's all that really matters, need to stop with crap like crackdown 3 and sea of thieves, more quality like forza, halo and gears and they will see their player base grow.

As a big fan of the original Xbox and I even liked the 360, I find it really hard to believe X1 will make a comeback this gen since it feels like this gen is reaching its end.

When you think in terms of just sales, then no. When you look at xbox as an overall product then yes. MS royally screwed up the beginning of this gen and that hurt them. Until Microsoft gets the kind of talent making exclusives that Sony has I don’t see it. I’ll get blasted for this but oh well. Xbox 360 did do much better than the one on exclusives.and it’s praised for that. But even then the PS3 was making much better exclusives. Opinion. It’s like the exclusives for PS3 laid the foundation for the domination of the PS4. People wanted too see what those exclusives would look like on PS4. 360 had some good exclusives. Alan wake was good. They havnt even touched that game this gen. It’s really baffling how Microsoft went away from making great exclusives this gen. I own a pro and an s. So yeah it bothers me Xbox just left making great games on the side of the road. Have been a few but not many. And even the few they do release are not that deep or engaging. It’s just bad. Sorry, but this gen certainly was a failure for them. They made major gains in the 360 era (but those numbers may have been due to RROD issues). Sony stumbled that gen with pricing. Nintendo then stumbled with WiiU. But, Microsoft blew it. They are getting beat by more than 2 to 1 by Sony and Nintendo is going to catch up to them with Switch very soon. They won't even come close to last gens sales.

MS reclaimed the hardware advantage, they have the superior infrastructure and services, the highest praised customer care and communication, they are expanding their entire gaming business in a way Sony could only dream to achieve and they have made console hardware sales almost irrelevant while still increasing profits YoY and are even expanding into other platforms. Comeback is an understatement. Sony is treating their customers like shit while crippling their software sales by limiting them to only ~100 million users which makes zero sense to do as a business. No matter how hard you try and twist and spin this generation into a Sony-victory, MS will still come out on top.

The market is set for this current generation. At this point, given the forecast for a release of new system(s), there is little-to-nothing Microsoft can do to increase its consumer base by leveraging the current generation. The creation of the game pass, deals with goal, free-play weeks, etc. are all things to keep its current consumer based interested.

The acquisitions they've have made over the past months, and the opportunity to play on android, smart device, switch, etc. are ways for Microsoft to put chips down on the table. I am interested to see how it all plays out.

Microsoft dropped the ball with their announcement of the Xbox 1 in 2013 and that pissed fans off with the crap Microsoft was saying. Microsoft lacks the exclusives that everybody wants nothing to push the envelope like the arsenal Sony has put out or what Nintendo has pushed out. The only way Microsoft can make a comeback is if they learn from their faults with the Xbox 1 and focus on Xbox 2 and not repeat their mistakes they made.

I think the comeback will more then likely come in the form of doing better then what the Xbox One has done so far. We all know the Xbox One didn't do well at launch due to more problems then solutions. Lack of exclusives, bad communication and lack of power compared to the PS4. That said though they have bounced back in different ways that make the future of the next gen Xbox looking allot more promising as of lately.

After Phil took over they have stopped to listen to their user base, fixing the problems that plagued the Xbox One while adding more to the console that seems to be either making the user base happy or pushing to change the game industry as a whole. Backwards compatibility has been a huge hit for the X-1 and one of it's main selling points since it allows gamer's to replay or discover older titles. Game Pass has been very steadily charging forward as one of the best game services on Xbox and soon PC and other consoles in the future and with the big push for cross play Microsoft has started to bring gamer's together in their favorite games and in a way allow games to stay alive longer if you really think about it. Yes you can argue that Sony has been doing cross play for years, but it's only been with PC. As of lately Sony seems to be against the idea of cross playing with other consoles like it's going to destroy them or something.

Will the next gen Xbox be the biggest hit console ever? No, most likely not. But I think the next gen Xbox will at least be able to stay toe to toe with Sony's next gen console this time around and build up from what the Xbox One is doing even now and maybe more.

At this point i just hope we don't see the return of bad Sony, the same Sony that we had back when they were announcing the PS3, that's a nightmare I don't want to see Sony repeat since they got to cocky for their own good.

I'm actually looking forward to playing Crackdown 3 when it launches (got it downloaded ready for my XB1-S), I'm very hyped for Ori and The Will of The Wisps and interested to play Gears 5, but those are very slim pickings.

This year is pretty empty for XBox only games, maybe as a new XB1 owner I've missed some titles, but those are the only ones that stand out too me.

PS4 has Days Gone, Dreams (the Beta was awesome), Concrete Genie, likely TLOU2, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima also coming this year, not to forget a tonne of great PSVR titles.

Switch also has Luigi's Mansion 3, Deamon Ex Machina, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Pokémon, Yoshi's Crafted World, Town, Animal Crossing, plus a number of other games teased by Nintendo.

PS4 will be where I play my multiplats, unless there are ones I don't get around to buying before they're on Gamepass.

I like my XB1 for Gamepass and the few unique exclusives that aren't available on the other consoles, but there's not much to draw attention away from the other systems, especially this year.

MS has had so many "comeback years" according to games journalism, but I have yet to see it, and I fail to see how this year is any different. Maybe their studio acquisitions will pan out in the way they're hoping, but I'm not expecting to see much of the fruits of that in 2019, and Sony and Nintendo aren't just going to roll over and release zero exclusives even when the newly acquired studios get the ball rolling.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
