Anthem's release schedule is so convoluted that I plan on skipping the game entirely

Anthem is finally getting ready to release. Why exactly does it require a full-blown spreadsheet to explain its release dates?

You almost have to wonder if EA is trying to confuse gamers.

Baza2541d ago

EA using Anthem release as an opportunity to bait consumers into buying Origins and EA Access memberships. EA knows how to make money even at the sacrifice of the game or consumer satisfaction. This is what they do best.

Sono4212541d ago

Most who buy this game are gonna regret it, mark my words.

deno2540d ago

At this point for me it doesn't even matter. I stopped supporting them after titanfall 2. I have Seikro shadows die twice to get and metro exodus. No need for this game from a company that hates gamers.

Yourworld2541d ago

Are you really wondering? I think it's really obvious that both Ubisoft with their edition matrixes, and EA are trying to do that. They're really hoping someone has a reason to buy a game twice or something else.

Knushwood Butt2540d ago

As soon as I see a game that has different versions with different content I just ignore it.

Far Cty 4 is currently on sale but there is a normal version and a Gold version which is twice as expensive. I've no idea what the difference is and couldn't be bothered trying to find out.

_LarZen_2540d ago

Apparently it dont take much to do that....

ziggurcat2540d ago

It's simple, really:

pay EA the top dollar, and you get the game on the actual release date. pay the base amount, and you're forced to wait an extra week to play the game. aren't tiered release dates wonderful?

badz1492540d ago

this is actually nothing new. they did it already with BFV and if BFV is any indication, let's all hope the game would be 50% a month later

2pacalypsenow2541d ago

WTF lol Another BF5?

Ea is lucky they have FIFA and Madden, otherwise they would be gone.

TyrellCorp2541d ago

And sadly those are probably the most egregious examples of EA gouging their consumers for every penny they can get. Unfortunately sports games have become monetization wastelands at this point

BlackOni2541d ago

And that's just it- Many of the people who buy sports games ONLY buy one of those games per year, so spending extra for stuff they should have on disk isn't as big of a deal to them as it is for other gamers who see the bigger picture outside of just one game.

2pacalypsenow2541d ago

This was my last year buying FIFA since I've realized they stopped caring for the core game and are only worried about Ultimate Team.

TyrellCorp2541d ago (Edited 2541d ago )

@2pacalypse I feel ya man I started skipping Maddens when the franchise started to stagnate (few years after 2K went away), but I always end up picking up a copy every 2 years or so to scratch that itch. However, seeing EA expend more effort on developing that ultimate team garbage in the last couple years than I've ever seen on their carousel of features they add and subtract every year may be the last straw.

ocelot072541d ago

Not that I want my government policing the gaming industry. But I wish my government would do what Belgium did and ban loot boxes.

NarooN2540d ago

Kinda baffled you don't see people talking about the EA Sports titles. The shit that they've been pulling in those games is straight up beyond absurd. Calling them wastelands is almost being too generous lol

I forgot BF5 even existed until I read your comment, wow that game bombed hard.

Chaosdreams2541d ago

Some guidelines to save everyone harm.

1. Don't pre-order, don't even buy this on day 1. Just wait a few weeks, days even, and this game will have anywhere from a 25-50% discount if you are interested.

2. Don't expect a groundbreaking story. This is primarily a looter/shooter.

3. If the mt's aren't bad at first, they gradually will be (if EA catches onto Activision's tactics).

txboy052541d ago

You sound like you’ve played and beat it already

rdgneoz32541d ago

1. It'll only drop that much of it bombs.
2. Diablo didn't have a ground breaking story, but it did great on the combat, loot, and co-op. Anthem is trying to be diablo (and a bit of warframe) with guns, not destiny. The 6 difficulties are somewhat like the torment levels in diablo as well.
3. All MTs are cosmetic. No season pass or paid dlc breaking up the community. You can buy skins and emotes, that's it. No buying crafting materials or guns or armor/weapon mods.

Also, there's really no confusion. Game comes out the 22nd. If you have ea premiere on PC, you can play a week early (15th). If you have xbox ea pass, you can play for 10 hours total on the 15th. Else, everyone plays the 22nd. It's been the same for other games with from EA due to the pass crap. The confusion comes from people not reading before writing.

King_Noctis2540d ago (Edited 2540d ago )

“Also, there's really no confusion.”

You started that sentence then proceed to explain the staggered release. If it’s not confusing then I don’t think it really need any explanation.

Psychotica2541d ago

Skipping the game because you can't figure out when the game is released? Ridiculous..

TacoTaco2541d ago

Yeah, he must only buy games to play them within the first week of everyone else because that's important for reasons?

It's not as messed as BFV's but they've gotta cut this 'some consumers are better than others' crap out by staggering releases. It'll end up like movies with month lags for physical releases if we don't stop them.

spicelicka2541d ago

Not to mention the chart itself is confusing. Why is the demo and trial in the release schedule chart? A quick look shows the game comes out Feb 22nd, and Feb 15th for Origin Premier...

Lionsguard2541d ago (Edited 2541d ago )

What's so confusing? A demo is a demo. A trial is the full game just only 10 hours of it. 15th is early access and 22nd is official release date. Why is this so difficult for people to grasp? Is this the Fortnite generation not understanding because there's no dance moves next to it?

spicelicka2541d ago (Edited 2541d ago )

@Lionsguard

I agree, I just thought the article author made the chart themselves to make it seem more confusing.

Anomander2540d ago

Some people just gotta bitch about something.

Peruzzi2540d ago

Psychotica … people are pussies seriously and getting offended for nothing … they search and search and serach every possible way to hate on this game just because it's EA lol … pathetic

Duke192541d ago

"Skipping the game entirely" seems like hilarious overkill. I never understood why people get worked up over what system gets to play a week before the other, etc.

DonkeyWalrus2541d ago

I'm skipping this game entirely because it looks boring and EA is trash.

Forn2541d ago

Same reasons for me! I'll support games and companies that cater to their fans/consumers.

akbennyewu2540d ago

Entirely fair reason to skip it.

I was actually kinda excited for this game; then I played last week's demo.

But for Christ's sake, the author getting butt hurt over a release schedule being too hard to understand is completely overdramatic.

Could Anthem live on? Tech allowing local server hosting existed, former executive producer says

BioWare's multiplayer shooter Anthem was terminated this week because EA no longer wanted to maintain servers for people to play the game on, and without them, no one can play the game. But the former executive producer of Anthem has revealed that BioWare had technology working, close to the game's release, that would enable us to host our own servers to play the game on.

EA/Bioware should allow us to host our own servers to let this game live on.

I'd be fine just playing it as a localhost and dumb as rocks AI bots. Just give me the choice.

Anthem Players Report Download Errors A Week Before Shutdown

BioWare and EA had previously said the game would be accessible to those who owned it until it shuts down on January 12.

anast10d ago

Never buy online games unless there is some kind of refund policy.

Only days remain before EA will switch off the servers to BioWare's ill-fated multiplayer game

Time flies (like a Javelin suit): there are only 10 days left to play BioWare's ill-fated multiplayer game Anthem before the servers are switched off, presumably forever.

In my opinion, Anthem was a good IP that was worthy of a no man's sky or cyberpunk 2077 treatment.

To this day, their sub reddit is active and I was able to get into a game quickly a few weeks ago when I booted it up.

It is a shame EA and Bioware didn't want to give the game the overhaul it needed to turn it into a competent looter shooter.

GamerRN13d ago

They were close to releasing the overhauled version and then EA cancelled it

TheGamersDojo11d ago

I wholeheartedly agree. If ANY game deserved to get the rework/relaunch it deserved it was this one. More than literally any other. Even over FFXIV, No Mans Sky etc.

SlothLordPootus13d ago

I just finished this up a couple days ago. Although it's a bit repetitive and the story is meh, the game feels great to play. Even if you can only hop on the game for a couple hours before it shuts down, I think it's worth it.

chicken_in_the_corn13d ago

Really enjoyed this. Shame to see it go.

Software_Lover13d ago

I didnt know servers were still up. I could have been playing!!!

victorMaje13d ago

2nd comment attempt (1st doesn’t appear & this may register as duplicate):

They can spend billions to buy or get bought but they can’t spend a fraction of that to fix or overhaul a game that could have been truly special, smh.
