The Most Impressive Dreams Creations

From PlayStation Universe: "The NDA placed on the Dreams beta has now been lifted by Sony, meaning that everyone can see the awesome creations from the community, thanks to social media. We have compiled a list of the most impressive Dreams Creations, which we will update over time. So, be sure to stay tuned to this article."

Just dawned on me that MM could create a market place for indies WITHIN Dreams, so people pay the developers for some of the more impressive creations. Rapid build and deploy, no bureaucracy. Imagine all the creatives that could become indie developers without needing hardcore programming skills. This could be amazing.

have you been watching their live streams..? a few months ago there was a convo brought up about that around the time Game Informer were doing their coverage of Dreams... nothing confirms of denies that thought and they duno how they'll handle something like that lool

poppatron2645d ago

I watched an interview today where the guy said explicitly that there won’t be any way for creators to make money, no assets will be available for money, just for free. He said to iamagine the free marketplace as a hippy commune of creators or something along those lines.

crazyCoconuts2645d ago

Hmm... Maybe they'll change their minds over time or have a longer term plan around it. Really talented people spending a lot of time and energy on something won't want to give it away for free. And us gamers are willing to pay a little for a quality game / story. I'm thinking in the $1-$5 range is reasonable. I think roblocks and Minecraft worlds are free to play, but looks like someone could create a game way more intriguing with Dreams. We'll see. First it has to take off, and that will be harder being exclusive to one platform...

Its time to make some work of art.

If these are the things people are able to create so early on....makes me wonder what we could expect in years to come.

I keep looking for more videos to find the magic and dreams from the first E3 showing and all I can find is indie student half life mods from a decade ago.

Don't get me wrong I like the genre, it's been around with Disney Infinity, Project Spark, others, but I wanted something dreamy and magical. This seems to be a step up for user creations, but I never found myself skipping real games for this stufff.

I don’t see this single level as a fan made but as a demo pitch from the studio to revive the franchise with a new game and to measure the want of PlayStation for a full game

Michiel1989142d ago

and they're gaging that by making a level in a dead game?

fr0sty142d ago

It's a great engine to quickly prototype and publicly test a game concept. Honestly, had they approached the business model differently, Dreams could have been very successful... They could have made their money from the creators, not just off game sales, if they'd made a system that lets you pay a fee to export your games/levels so that they are playable on any PlayStation even if you don't have Dreams installed. That would have opened up an additional revenue stream that would have made the game profitable. Charge an export fee, then take a cut of each sale for the games created... it gives financial incentive for developers to invest serious time into making games in that engine, which increases the quality of the projects made within it. Dreams was just ahead of its time.

Exthun142d ago

That's happening when you’ve got a great IP but no clue how to use it, while others are yelling at you to get to work on them.

Babadook7142d ago

Nice. This put a smile on my face. Good job to the Dreams developer.

Abnor_Mal142d ago

I always said that Dreams should have released on every PC/console capable of handling its graphical prowess, not like it was so much of a powerhouse anyways. It should have also had PSVR2 compatibility.

It’s a shame the game was put out to pastures so early in its life.

Babadook7142d ago

Yup. Should be on psvr2.

Miraak82 142d ago

It should have had kb/m support and no mp implementation was a mistake ..... I miss lbp , they should have just stuck with that franchise . If they didn't kill the servers it would still be installed on my ps , it was a game of endless fun

gaffyh142d ago

That's actually super impressive

Knightofelemia142d ago (Edited 142d ago )

Banjo Kazooie isn't the only franchise Microsoft is sitting on and doing nothing.

Miraak82 142d ago

Same can be said for Sony also , a couple years after the ps4 launched and after the success of TLoU they basically abandoned everything except for GoW, GT, R&C and MLB .. such a shame . Was never a XB or MS person but knowing all the franchises Sony will never touch again stings a lot

Such a shame media Molecule and sony didnt know what to do with this game. Now would be a perfect time to release it multiplat like helldivers 2. It needs a large community.

Dreams had potential but it really needed to get off of the PS4. It released so late in the gen when everyone was already wanting to move on to next gen systems. It should have come to PC, and a native PS5 version should have definitely released.

I bought it Day 1 but the 'campaign' was pretentious and just didn't work for me. I had no intention of making content so was left to fumble through the user created content. Some good stuff, with the pig detective being the most memorable. However, just moved on to other stuff, and despite owning VR, never once played in VR either.

Knushwood Butt447d ago

Media Molecule always seem to be too ahead of the curve to have a big hit. Hopefully whatever they are working on now finds a big audience.

YoungKingDoran447d ago

For whatever reason/s they somehow dropped the ball hard with Dreams, our loss

Lionsguard447d ago

Dreams was fantastic, especially when VR was added. The things people managed to build was incredible. Some of the best VR experiences are still from Dreams experiences. The huge crux for it was being on consoles however and it was missing one thing that they didn't have back then and that we have now..... A.I.. With the advent of AI today, if they could have had Dreams running on PC and somehow got AI to work where we just typed in a prompt and it did things, it would have been a massive game changer, it could have just made the AI "Dream" and create its own things. It could have solved their problem of somehow getting one dream to just change into another one seamlessly. I really think Dreams deserves a second chance.

It was an awesome idea but even with tools that were supposed to make it easier to make a game, it was still so hard and convoluted. It tried to do to much at once. It would have been better to separate everything into easier parts, build the world, then the character's, then the music, etc. Not everything all at once. Some people understood it but most were overwelmed or confused.
