“The Division 2 Supports Variable Refresh Rate On Xbox One Making It The Best Console Version”

Most people don’t even a display that supports freesync.

Unspoken2682d ago

VRR has already been introduced on Samsung TVs. Ton of monitors support it and the years TV will roll out with VRR baked in to the HDMI 2.1 spec.

Most people...? It's an industry standard feature being rolled out to the mass market.

Eonjay2682d ago

This is silly. VFR reduces judder but it is not superior to playing a locked rate unless the variable framerates are already sky high. Again this only hides judder. It is a bandaid to deal with shortcomings. If for example PS4 runs at a locked 30 and Xbox One S does not then VRF will hide judder on S but the PS4 wont have judder to begin with.

bluefox7552682d ago

It kinda does actually. If you have a display that supports freesync, you're probably gaming on PC. Seems pretty pointless for the vast majority of players.

DragonbornZ2681d ago

@Eonjay
Whos saying VRR is superior to a locked framerate? If there are framerate shortcomings (I dont remember how the Division 1 ran) then VRR will be better than no VVR.

Team_Litt2683d ago

I suppose that means it's not the best console version?

Bluemaster772682d ago

lol please elaborate on how the most powerful system (by far) wouldn't have the best version available?

neutralgamer19922682d ago

Which console version will sell the most

Thank you for playing

bluefox7552682d ago

Maybe? If it's the one your friends are playing on. If you only care about the best version, you'll probably be on PC.

Jin

Ms have the worst parity clauses wheh Xbox one was weaker than ps4 they made sure no 3rd party game which had marketing deal with ms could look better on ps4

Just like Phil Spencer talking about marketing deals with limited timed exclusive dlc being bad for gamers yet having no issues signing those deals did deals for Xbox one

Being on this site I hear it all the time how it's run hy playstation Nation yet if you look daily vast majority of the coverage is positive towards Xbox and being hated towards ps4

Kiwi662682d ago (Edited 2682d ago )

There has been plenty of negative xbox articles but guess despite you being on this site you must've missed them

neutralgamer19922682d ago

Kiwi

Even as of right now there is a negative pr article about Sony

shiva12682d ago

Were you born yesterday...cause your compaints doesnt match with your date of birth and events happening on earth.

Kerppamaister2682d ago (Edited 2682d ago )

@neutral exact opposite, tons of pro ps/ms hate articles floating around here

Then it is great for those who do own the display.

Zeref2682d ago

That still makes it the best console version...

Damage control on the first comment. :P

OpenGL2682d ago

So does it run at 60fps then? Most FreeSync displays drop adaptive sync when they hit 30fps or lower.

maybelovehate2682d ago

I think you need to research what the word "variable" means.

OpenGL2682d ago

I think you need to research how FreeSync works, if the game doesn't target a framerate higher than 30fps there's no benefit to FreeSync on most displays. If it's targeting 30fps on console like the first game, I can't see this being very useful as I doubt they will take a step backwards graphically from the original game. I actually own an adaptive refresh rate 4K display and the prospect of playing at something like 40fps is not appealing.

maybelovehate2682d ago (Edited 2682d ago )

It is a variable, unlocked frame rate, when they say it is a variable framerate. Sorry if I was being condescending. But it means it isn't 30, or 60. It isn't locked. Although I am sure they will have a mode where it is locked at 30 as well. If you don't have a freesync monitor.

Teflon022682d ago

Well it'll likely not work out as good as you think, because from that I've seen researching freesync late last year, unless you have a really expensive monitor. The threshold is usually 40 or more frames. Not even 30 in most cases. The people with monitors expensive enough to really get the most out of it will likely be on pc anyways since the monitor would be more expensive than the Xbox

OpenGL2682d ago

You are missing my point or are being deliberately obtuse. The first game only targets 30fps on all consoles so if they're doing a variable framerate with a similar target on the sequel FreeSync will not work very well, as most monitors don't work before 30Hz while many don't even work below 40. In fact, all of Samsung's 2018 4K TVs with FreeSync have a minimum supported refresh rate of 48Hz so again I seriously question how well this is going to work for most FreeSync owners unless the game is approaching framerates close to 60fps.

OpenGL2682d ago

Love the disagrees from people that don't know how FreeSync works. The game will have to run at 48fps or higher for adaptive refresh rate support to work on all Samsung 4K TVs. If you drop below 48Hz the tv will go back to 60Hz and you'll experience all the regular pitfalls of v-sync or Ubisoft will have to introduce tearing.

2pacalypsenow2682d ago (Edited 2682d ago )

This is like the original Xbox where some games output in 720p and 1080i even though most people didn’t have an HD TV.

Kribwalker2682d ago

my ps2 output HD to my HDTV with the component cables on GT4. I’m typically forward thinking with my electronics. My most recent 4k Tv will be 3yrs old this year so i’m gonna upgrade later, i’ll be getting one with HDMI 2.1 which most TVs that are supposed to have that will have VRR. So that will be great for me later

BLow2682d ago

Shouldn't the most powerful console in the world always have the best version by default. How is this surprising? I would understand if this and the Pro came out at the same time like the vanilla versions but they didn't. The majority own the base versions but it's like they don't exist anymore. I guessing because it won't get as many clicks from the fanboys....

franwex2682d ago

Exactly. It’s expected that the most powerful console should have the better version of any game.

shiva12682d ago

Yes... Thats what is happening and will happen until next gen hits the shelves. People dont have to point that out again and again. There is no console that can beat X in terms of performance.

Casepb2682d ago

Umm no, for a console that's bad. Console games NEED to have vsync in order for them to have decent frame pacing. Having it on variable will not only make things feel stuttery, but will probably result in screen tearing.

Unspoken2682d ago

That's a straight fail. You use VRR on displays that support it. Locked when the displays doesn't.

OpenGL2682d ago

That's not how FreeSync and G-Sync work. The reason variable framerates normally suck has to do with the way vertical sync operates, if the game fails to hit its 16.67ms frame time the game will wait until 33.33ms to display the frame, so that the game's refresh fits within the displays refresh rate, meaning the framerate drops to 1/2, aka 30fps. Triple buffering sort of solves this but then results in judder while adding another frame of latency, as the refresh rate does not match the display. Adaptive refresh rate displays solve this by reducing the display refresh rate to match the game's internal refresh rate, allowing for vertical sync without the compromises normally associated with it. This means that when your game drops from 60fps to 54fps, you don't get a hard lock to 30 and a doubling of the frame time from 16.67ms to 33.33ms as you would with double buffered v-sync. Instead your frame time only increases to ~18ms, which is imperceivable. There's also no judder because the display is now displaying at 54Hz.

The Division 2: No Plans for a New Raid in Year 8; Exotics Balancing,Specialization Rework Confirmed

The Division 2 devs have confirmed there is no planned raid for Year 8, though they did confirm a bunch of other important stuff on the way.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH73d ago

Just give me cross save so I can get back into this game. I got thousands of hours on this game on Xbox. I plan on PC now and I’m not starting over. Do you guys have any idea what I had to go through just to get Eagle Bearer!?!? No way I’m going through that again. Add Cross save Massive please!

INMATEofARKHAM72d ago (Edited 72d ago )

Cross save just isn't going to happen. There's ubisoft accounts that have played it on all three platforms.

That said raid/incursion exclusives aren't so exclusives anymore and not really that deal breaking. Its the expertise/proficient that's the big hang up.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH72d ago

Yeah either way I’m not touching that game again unless I can bring my progress to PC.

TheColbertinator71d ago

The story needs some serious content for the rest of the year. Warlords of New York was the last time I cared for the storyline and all the new "loot" does not excite me at all.

If ever a game developer needed to move on and make a 3rd game before they kill the franchise, this is it

MrDead88d ago

I liked the division 2 but not a fan of the highest difficulty in the end game. Highest difficulty is all tactics and most weapons are useless, you just need a rapid firing gun with regenerating armour.
