PC gamers have been forced to run Windows for too long. Really hope this improves Linux adoption so eventually developers start supporting non DirectX APIs out of the gate so we don't need translation layers...

I think many PC gamers use their computers for more than gaming though. I love the idea of Linux, but until Adobe starts supporting it I'm forced into always using Windows or Mac for work.

Photoshop doesn't run under Wine?

Cobra9512682d ago

That's just it. Windows is the software standard. You can't go Linux and expect everything to just work. You need to be somewhat of an expert to be able to handle all the issues successfully. Average users don't stand a chance. As a result, it will never come close to competing with Windows. Developers are going to go where most users are first.

crazyCoconuts2682d ago

@Cobra - except for some niche applications, the software standard is quickly becoming running your apps in the cloud/browser. On the consumer side the OS is becoming less and less relevant (Chromebooks and iPads are reigning supreme...both Unix based BTW). PC sales are declining and Windows is only holding it's own in the workplace for now. Windows is in a dangerous place strategically....

what is the best linux OS to start ? and how do you run some drivers that only accept windows and mac/?

@crazyCoconuts

If it was just a hobby, I might play around with Wine, but for work I need to know it's going to work properly always.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing30d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9230d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit30d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing30d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9230d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
