Mortal Kombat 11 Will Launch Later On Nintendo Switch

Press Start writes: After the Mortal Kombat 11 reveal earlier today, we noticed the Switch listings on both EB Games and JB Hi-Fi were different to that of other platforms. EB Games had listed the game for May, whilst JB Hi-Fi had the game listed as ‘coming soon’. We reached out to WarnerBros local distributor 18point2 who confirmed …

Everything launches later on the Switch LOL Although they never need to rely on hardware to make great games, I wish Nintendo would, for once, make their hardware a little more beefy just to prevent their tech from getting outdated so fast.

Dr4g02686d ago

Well rumor are a new switch revision on its way which would make sense if they want to have 3rd party support when next gen comes around the corner.

Sono4212686d ago

That would be a really nice and easy way for Nintendo to piss off their consumers. Release a new iteration of hardware only 2 years after its release? Piss off, but this is Nintendo so they will probably do it, just seems like an idiotic thing to do when sales are still so high.

Neonridr2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

@Sono421 - but it's ok that Sony and MS did it 3 years after? If it releases next March that is 3 years after the Switch. Why are we ok with the Pro and the One X, but not a Switch mid-gen refresh?

ABizzel12686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

It won't be enough. At best it would be the Tegra X2, which is practically the same hardware as the X1 (besides the CPU), with higher clock speeds.

They would be foolish to change the CPU, because compatibility issues will arise, but they should be able to simply go with upgraded ARM cores and be fine, although CPU throttling isn't really the issue. This will allow better battery life, better performance, lower thermal hits, and thus higher clock speeds.

The GPU is identical, but with the gains on the CPU side it too could clock higher and closer to its original clocks. Best case scenario IMO, you're looking at handheld mode running at 30% - 40% higher clock speeds safely providing significantly more stable fps in portable mode for all games. Honestly it could theoretically run at 2x the speed, but battery life and thermals would kill it.

Docked mode performance can increase dramatically as well, but it depends completely on a remodeled dock because Nintendo won't want to push the internal fan that hard. Adding a decent fan to the dock will allow better cooling and higher clocks. This way when the switch realizes it's in docked mode it will run at 30% - 40% higher clocks than the original docked Switch, putting it just over 1/3 the power of the XBOs and just over 1/4 the power of the PS4.

So better, but still not enough for parity release, since devs have to drop to lowest settings, and often from there build Switch specific assets (which technically means they could be making these games for PS360 still if their architecture was simpler to develop for, or high-end mobile devices.)

spicelicka2686d ago

The issue with that would be the price because a stronger portable system would just cost more. Switch is already more expensive than base PS4/XB1 while being weaker.

ChickeyCantor2685d ago

But I can't take the PS4/XB1 with me.

There are trait offs in components you guys seem to ignore.

spicelicka2685d ago

I'm not ignoring the trade off I'm talking exactly about the trade offs. It's more expensive and weaker, but it's portable. Beyond that it's a matter of is the trade off worth the price, that's up to the individual buyer.

maximumspidey2685d ago

well some of these games could greatly benefit from some actual hardware and maybe just a console overhaul in general and not the gimmicks nintendo has been putting out for a while

Mr Marvel2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

MK11 looks fantastic on PS4/Xbone.
Why would anyone wait to play a shitty looking version on the Switch?
If your excuse is playing on the go then remember you have to deal with the Switch's biggest weakness... Joy-cons.
Joy-con controllers are useless for fighting games and although the Pro controller is very nice, you might as well just play it on other more powerful consoles if you're using a TV.
The Switch is a great handheld system, but I refuse to buy any more fighting games on Switch unless they are exclusive and worth playing in docked mode.

King_Noctis2686d ago

“If your excuse is playing on the go then remember you have to deal with the Switch's biggest weakness”

People don’t need excuse to buy on whatever platform they like. The Switch’s strength is you can play the game anywhere, even in tabletop mode with friends. Just a single joycon in each hand and there you go. People who play this way don’t care about competition like a pro, they just play for fun and that’s what matter.

-volt-2686d ago

Sounds like you are a graphics ***

Neonridr2686d ago

The option is there... play it ONLY on your TV at home, or play it wherever you want and sacrifice a bit.

MetroidFREAK212686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

I'm buying the game on Switch? Is that a problem to you? Are you going to be okay with my decision to buy what I want for whatever platform I want? 🤔

blawren42686d ago

Because not everyone is arrogant enough to think their opinion is the only one...or the right one? Not everyone has or wants multiple systems? Perhaps the option to play any way I want is enough to justify the purchase? Graphics don't matter as much as you might believe? Take your pick

maximumspidey2685d ago

their excuse is most likely to play it on the go even though it'll be the platform most people won't be playing on

Benjaminkno2685d ago

While you enjoy your game with shittier visuals, I’ll enjoy the game’s better performance on PC.

Why anyone would want to play a clearly less sophisticated and primitive version is pretty damn stupid to me.

Have fun playing the more inferior version, if that’s what you wanted, why not play it on Switch?

You sound like a weirdo

MetroidFREAK212685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

I mean I have a choice to pick my PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, my desktop computer, or my Nintendo Switch. I will be supporting the Nintendo Switch version. I want to show these developers that there is a market for these high profile games on the Nintendo Switch. I couldn't care less about the decrease in visual fidelity or perhaps a cut frame rate. For example, I bought Wolfenstein 2 for my Xbox One X and my Nintendo Switch despite the graphical downgrade. Why? Because I choose to support hard working developers (Panic Button in this case for Wolf 2) and show their hard work was not in vain, that the Switch is a machine to be taken seriously, and the fact I can kill Nazi scum wherever I want is an amazing proposal. Taking a fully fledged Mortal Kombat anywhere is honestly the biggest selling point of the game despite the compromises that will most likely occur. You can play your game on PC and enjoy the better graphics and most likely higher frame rate and I will enjoy this wherever I want. It's okay to voice your opinion, but my choice is not stupid or weird. It's a choice I made when they announced the game back in December and I will continue to buy more and more games for my Switch. If you do not like the Switch, that's fine with me, but calling people's choice stupid to buy it on a platform you don't like nor have tried is simply unacceptable. I'll be supporting the hard work of the developer and giving them my money as long as ALL versions live up to the expectations set by MK X.

Comes out on my birthday, very excited about that

Platformgamer2686d ago

yeah, with black blood and some other censures, at 720p 30fps, probably in cloud mode like resi 7

EddieNX 2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

Fact is this current gen , graphically intense , AAA fighting game is coming to Switch. You can spin it anyway you like but the fact remains..

If it was coming to a Sony handheld you'd probably be praising it.

Neonridr2686d ago

black blood? grow up dude.

blawren42686d ago

would be a fun alternate mode on the Switch to have green blood...just for nostalgia and funsies.

Neonridr2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

@blawren4 - but the original version of Mortal Kombat on the SNES used "grey" blood and called it sweat instead. Once Mortal Kombat 2 came along, it had all the gore and thus became the definitive console version as the graphics were far superior to the Genesis counterpart.

King_Noctis2686d ago

“black blood and some other censures“

Yeah Nintendo should totally censored this game while basically letting you grope “underage” girl (as some of you always like to say) in other games.

“probably in cloud mode like resi 7”

You haven’t read any news have you? Way to live in a cave.
