With such growth last year, I think much of this might be exaggerated, and just a little bump down. PS3 ftw ;)

Lifendz6419d ago

That's why they haven't lowered the price. They need to earn a profit. Yeah a lot of people are going to opt for 360 now that it's 199, but I still think a good number of people will choose PS3. After all, 360 isn't exactly blowing PS3 out of the water even with the 199 price tag. Sony will turn a profit, R2 and LBP will sell through the roof, and hopefully all these gloom and doom Sony is done articles will go away.

thetamer6419d ago

it's not a story about doom and gloom, it's just a reflection on how badly the economic crisis has hit even the big players. The fact that the SCEI is still profitable speaks volumes for Sony and it's a good sign for the PS3 as well as the PSP.

Plus, even if you buy the PS3 as a Blu-ray disc player primarily, it's a bloody good price, and a lot cheaper than other blu-ray disc players. Good console at a reasonable price, which is reflected in sales figures.

I don't think there is going to be a doom and gloom for Sony as long as the PSP, PS2, and the growth of HD televisions and blu-ray keep increasing in sales, part of the holiday season is not only games but movies with Dark Knight coming out, that puts more incentive to buy a PS3 along with the games, and if people don't like the price, the PS2 is lower then all the consoles out there, and the PSP also is there as an option

Sony is not really pressured to drop the price of the PS3 as they have other options that will boost their profits, same with Nintendo, although the Wii can sell like its nobodies business. Microsoft is the only one who has been pressured because in its gaming division this is the practically the only thing they have so the whole world of gaming for Microsoft is weighted on the 360 while the other companies do have other options

Well, at least us gamers will keep getting our sony games!

Losses are synonymous with Sony's PS3.

Loosing market share, exclusive, 1st place and ect...

You seriously made a login here purely to bash PS3? o.O

Please just don't say piracy! :P

Leord6419d ago

In all honesty, I do think that Piracy is the one and only reason for less profits in game companies. It's also the one single reason for more youth stabbings in the UK this past year. Piracy corrupts and destroys all of us. We must join hands together and sing to make it go away.

Lacking that, I think it's good to sue all kinds in the western world before they even have a chance to commit piracy, so they start life with a huge debt to our one true master.

thewhoopimen6418d ago

Who's been pirating ps3 games lately?

As the article summarizes, the weak dollar and the strong yen are totally killing profits on Sony's end. I estimated Sony was losing $70 dollars just off the currency exchange alone. Check out the historic rates if you don't believe me. $70 is a HUGE drop in profit per consumer electronics sold.

The gaming industry will be fine through the recession, I'm sure.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle28d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
