Dave from Handsome Phantom says, "if I were part of the brass at the company’s headquarters, I’d get out as quickly as I can. Gamestop once had what felt like a monopoly on the video game retail industry."

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is getting cheaper but Call of Duty is leaving day-one access. Here’s what we think the price drop means for Xbox, PC Game Pass, and the future of the service.

Tech4Gamers writes: "A PlayStation Support assistant has confirmed that the 30-day timer implemented by the new DRM policy is part of an update and isn’t a bug. While responding to a fan’s query, PS support revealed that all games purchased digitally after March 2026 will be affected by this time limit.
If your PS4 or PS5 does not connect to the internet within 30 days, the game’s license will expire, and it won’t launch on the console unless the connection is restored. Hence, every digital game you purchase from now on will require an online check-in, or else you will lose ownership."
That is wild lol. Steam already does this for some games depending on the developer...but man...all digital games on ps5...
This has to be a mistake.
“Received word from an anonymous insider. The Sony DRM issue is unintentional. From what we gathered, Sony accidentally broke something while fixing an exploit. They've known about the confusing UI for a while, but didn't see it as urgent. Hoping for a clarifying statement now.”
The screenshot from the article is from an AI chat bot, there are plenty of screenshots floating around from actual human chat reps stating the opposite.
It this is real then I will never buy digital again and if the PS6 is digital only then it will be the first Playstation Console I wont buy
"Games will vanish" is click baity as hell...all you have to do is log in and the license is restored.
They tried to give me $35 for an Xbox One. Never went back. Due to shitty business practices and the rise of digital media they are the next Blockbuster.
I love GameStop. Hope this isn’t going to turn out true...
they're like pawnshops more less. a couple places even tell you if you want more money to sell it on ebay.
Only go to the pawnshops or game stores to buy, for selling do it online. unless you really need the money.
I hope not I have no problem with Gamestop though their trade in practices at times can be questionable.
This article's author is clueless. Saying the management should get out now is stupid. They're about to sell off. That's good for the executives. They'll likely get a nice bonus for saving the investors money, and probably getting them more than they would otherwise. Buyouts can be profitable.
As far as them going down, why is that the immediate assumption? How many companies get brought out, just to get shut down? You have a well recognized brand in GameStop, and despite the hate they get in gaming forums, there is a lot of worth to the name alone. The problem is that they can't remain profitable enough to stay open, but anyone willing to buy them is probably going to do so because they believe they have a way to make it profitable. Otherwise, why buy them? If that company just wanted to shut them down, they could save millions by just letting nature take its course, and it'd end up going bankrupt.
If the company that buys out GameStop can't make it profitable, then GS days are numbered. but a rumored buy out of GS means that new life may get breathed into the company, and likely any company that buys it is going to invest more into making it better. They aren't likely to just have it be business as usual. That's not usually how it works.
