Resident Evil 2 Remake Fixed Camera - Is there a Classic Fixed Camera Mode?

From GameWatcher: "Resident Evil 2 Remake is out on January 25, and fans are excited to play through one of the most popular games in the series from a new third-person camera perspective in the style of Resident Evil 4. However, is there a Resident Evil 2 Remake Fixed Camera mode too?"

Thank goodness that we've moved on from fixed camera modes. It was the limited technology at the time that constricted development to such techniques, but now, I don't really think there's a need to go back to it - except for novelty and nostalgia sake, because it really limits gameplay.

I hope one day there's a Metal Gear Solid and MGS2 next-gen remake with full 3D camera,. That would be awesome. But unfortunately... Konami... :(

But they also add tension, not knowing what is around the corner but hearing it is what made RE horrifying IMO. REmake shows that fixed cameras still work and the updated controls fitted it nicely. Even RE5 had a Easter egg in there that allowed you to play the games DLC with fixed camera angles and it was great.

the article adds speculation but there is no fixed camera option in the remake.
there is however a mod produced in the PC version.

Fully agree Kyro. Not being able to just pan the camera and see all the enemies around you really adds a lot of tension.

I would love fixed cameras with a VR mode. Where your headset is the cameras. Would allow for us to look into the world. But give extra range so it's not frustrating to play. The fixed camera angles of the days of yore were amazing, but off camera attacks were annoying. I miss them in PSone games like RE, Parasite Even, FF etc. This new style RE2 looks great in that amazing engine and plays well. It's still slower paced and scary without the tank or leadfoot controls of older REs or the action bro shooters like 6.

I'm pumped for RE2

Fixed camera was part of Resident Evil's charm, and made the game far more tense than the free camera games that came after 4.

The modern RE's scares and tension all came from cheap overcrowding from all directions and cinematics, whereas the fixed camera made you wonder what was beyond the end of the screen in every room.

MGs was full 3d..

ArchangelMike2625d ago

...but it still had fixed camera angles. You couldn't rotate the third person camera. That was first introduced to the series in Metal Gear Solid 3:Subsistence after massive fan outcry about the fixed camera angles in Snake Eater.

You must mean splinter cell.

TheGamez1002625d ago

It is still good in many games, just has to be done right

^ This is what happens when you allow casuals to have opinions about RE franchise and FC style .

Nacho_Z2625d ago

Agreed, it was a thing of necessity and it did add to the atmosphere but I was happy to see the back of it in Resi 4. Resi 7 showed that you can still have atmosphere and cool cinematography while still being able to actually aim a gun.

The limited technology argument is fallacious. They were limited to fixed cameras because they went with 2D pre-rendered backgrounds. That same limitation would exist nowadays if they went 2D pre-rendered backgrounds. There were games back then that were rendered in full 3D that had behind-the-back cameras. Silent Hill was fully rendered in 3D but they still mostly used a mix of dynamic and static fixed cameras because it suits horror so well. MGS 1&2 were also fully rendered in 3D. In all these cases, fixed cameras were a stylistic choice. There was nothing keeping them from having the camera follow the character from behind.

The7Reaper2625d ago

While I agree with you (hate fixed camera with a passion) but that doesn't mean that there shouldn't at least be an option to have one for people who do like them.

I hope they have some fixed angles in the game. This free camera doesn't work that good. Think how Uncharted games are free camera but certain angles are fixed sometimes.

I've honestly never played RE before RE7. Couldnt get into it mainly because of the tanky controlls. But man, I would LOVE if they added fixed camera angles as an option. It would give me a extra reason to replay the game.

I feel incredibly stupid though.. that I didn't play the originals when I had the chance. I love survival horror so much, and I realise now that Resident Evil is probably the best series in that category.

Anyway, I'm happy to finally getting into this series, and I want wait for more to come!!

LemyAtom2625d ago

It's never too late to go back and play the originals. I'm currently playing the original RE2 and loving it.

OpenGL2625d ago

It would kind of be a fun gimmick if they added it as an option but auto aim would need to be implemented. I think the way it plays now is fine and I love old RE.

This article is all speculation. No actual confirmation, just a bunch of maybes.
