Damn, next gen will be very interesting. Good for gamers 😃

New gens of gaming are always exciting.

I'll be buying the next Xbox, PS5 & Nintendo's next console & handhelds as well.

I like games and to get as wide of an experience as possible I prefer to play what I like and that means I'd need all 3 consoles.

I don't get the console wars or fanboy syndrome.

Microsoft does need to step it up next gen but I believe they will. They get to build it they way they want now with all this past gens mistakes in mind.

Phil Spencer's first true consoles where he is in charge during it's development and initial release.

I'm still enjoying this gen and some past gen games but I'm always excited for the next gen.

Pickledpepper2687d ago

Words of a true gamer. I own all and play all and will continue to do so, I have around 40 consoles dating back to the Atari 2600 with hundreds of games.
Console of choice is Xbox, why? Because that my preference

MoshA2687d ago

Yep. About time we get a balanced competition. The PS3 and PS4 destroyed Xbox in exclusives.

Haaliax2686d ago

Xbox got cocky this gen because the destroyed PS3 in sales on the previus gen. So badly that sony was losing 40$ for every ps3 sold in order to compete with xbox. Xbox360 had a lot of records broken because it had a very good run

RosweeSon2687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

Unless you buy an Xbox again and have to listen to this dribble instead of getting the games that the console deserves. If I was only able to purchase one console as was stuck with Xbox this Gen I’d be seriously annoyed by this point all talk and still nothing to show for its more hardware revisions than decent quality exclusives and next year looks dire crackdown 3 7-8/10 at best then what for the rest of the year tumbleweed currently

optimus2687d ago

you know what's funny? the n64 barely had any games outside of it's own exclusives and even those were few and far between, yet it's still heralded as a great console by most. the difference? there was no internet to complain on....as far as xbox goes, no matter what they do there will always be wrong in the eyes of these sony folks....if they don't bring a game to pc, you have pc players complaining, if they do, then you have console players complaining (mostly sony folks). you just can't please everyone.

RosweeSon2686d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

@optimus
The N64 barely had any games
Outside of its exclusives you mean those amazing games that still get voted now as the best games ever ocarina of time mario 64. Tell me one Xbox game from this Gen that’ll go down as a GOAT. Before you leap to conclusions I’m not one of these “Sony folk” you talk of I’m a gamer I own a 360 (currently in its box) had a xbox1S sold it after 4 months yes I have a PS4 pro and a vita but I also own a switch Wii U and a 3DS if a console has its own great games worthwhile me purchasing a console I’ll do it.
Xbox one has been dire all Gen and since I sold it well over a year ago apart from another forza admittedly a pretty good one but other than that nothing and for the next year it’s pretty much crackdown yea pass on that. I’d take the n64 over Xbox one for more games even if it was only their n64 exclusives they were banging rare were on fire back then Banjo goldeneye etc not to mention Star Wars pod racing shadows of the empire pilotwings f-zero lylat wars smash Bros Mario kart 64 blast corps they had plenty of fantastic games multiple developers
After 4 years the best games on Xbox one are 15 years old and are included as part of rare replay a big reason I bought an Xbox one quality games not average yearly churn shiii.

SO cool. There's going to be lots of exciting news this year.

RosweeSon2686d ago

Surely want release dates by this point much longer and you might as well get ready for next Gen ie this entire Gen has been a write off for Microsoft

Spurg2688d ago

I hope they don't venture into VR it pretty slate and boring. Microsoft needs to provide us with quality RPG games and with Obsidian and Inxile they will deliver on that in the coming future.

timotim2688d ago (Edited 2688d ago )

Microsoft has already been venturing into VR and AR. They have been maturing their own Windows Mixed Reality Platform for over a year now. I assume these very games (with Xbox support) will be available once they bring it to their console.

LOL...yeah, the last thing I do on this site is worry about disagrees. I couldn't care less about them. I get them mainly from fanboys with a good memory haha...its the only play they have half the time.

"it just demos and concepts."

This is just a flat out lie, or plain ignorance. RE7 is a demo? AstroBot which is over 90 on meta is a concept? Firewall Zero Hour is literally evolving FPS gaming.

Man, it's so funny how often people will speak about something they have no clue.

Pc and Xbox best combination:)

NarutoFox2688d ago

Do you need a PC if you have a Xbox? Do you need a Xbox if you have a PC? This is not a trick question 😁😂

Razzer2688d ago (Edited 2688d ago )

Before Game Pass came around there was no need for a PC gamer to own an Xbox One. All MS first party is on Windows 10 going forward so Xbox One would be redundant hardware for an PC gamer. But now I could see a PC gamer buying Xbox One for the selection of games available on Game Pass. Or to take advantage of Play Anywhere if there were a need for a gaming console in another room or there may be some indie games that are on Xbox One but not PC, etc. It would have to be some specific reason, but for the most part if you have a Windows 10 gaming PC then you can play pretty much anything available on Xbox.

Personally, I'm quite happy as a Windows 10 gamer so I don't expect investing in Xbox hardware anytime soon.

timotim2688d ago

Look at it like this...a gamer could have a really powerful PC in one room to play games on at really high fidelity. However, what about the other rooms in the house? Why not have that synergy between both PC and console in the home? Buy once, play anywhere...it beats buying for either console or PC right?

Sophisticated_Chap2688d ago

Cross-buy, cross-save, cross-play (play anywhere). This is what I like personally. My console sits in the livingroom where I like to lounge, and my PC is in my office, where I prefer to use Mouse & Keyboard. It's the best of both worlds in one ecosystem, although, you also have Steam, Origin and other services, so the PC ends up still being a unique experience.

2688d ago
timotim2688d ago

@gamingunited

1. Steam link? Ok...how many different screens can one PC distribute to using Steam Link? In other words...if I live in a home with 2 adults and 4 kids...can we all be playing different games, off that one PC using Steam Link? How will that effect performance?

2. Getting a really long cable? You mean cables right because again, I'm talking about gaming for multiple people throughout the home to multiple rooms while different people play different games.

3. Building a cheap HTPC? With that solution you are diving head first into console territory. That's exactly what consoles are haha...cheap HTPCs. Lets just say a house hold can get an HTPC built for $500 a piece...well Microsoft is making diskless consoles for a cheaper price point that will be capable of playing games at the same level (higher in some cases) as a cheap HTPC...and be even cheaper in price while doing it.

But in my scenario, gamers would still maintain those digital play anywhere titles where one could play them on the really expensive desktop, and while through family share, could also allow everyone in the home to play different games at the same time, which was my original point. The synergy between Xbox and Windows 10 is already way more powerful than trying to figure out what games to buy for what platforms. They presumably would both play each others games and could be distributed throughout the home each picking which platform works best for them.

I have a 9 year old daughter...Im sorry, but shes getting a console in her room, not an HTPC haha...I, nor she will want to have to deal with that. Sure...ill take the insanely speced PC, but not for her...but by have one eco system, we can both play games at the same time, but I only had to buy those games once...

Best combination if you want to miss all the best exclusives games out there which are on PS4.

Kribwalker2688d ago

nah, eventually those exclusives will make there way to PSnow and i could do a one month sub and play all their SP games at that time on a PC....

mkis0072688d ago

Krib

But what happened to playing the best version of those games?

Razzer2688d ago (Edited 2688d ago )

"all the best exclusives games out there which are on PS4."

Yep. Primary reason why I have a PS4 is the number of incredible exclusives that are unmatched on other consoles, imo. For folks like me, PS4 is necessary. Xbox One is not.

"But what happened to playing the best version of those games?"

lol.....good question.

Kribwalker2688d ago

@mkis
haven’t wasted my money on a pro because i hardly turn my PS4 on in the first place (haven’t since god of war), so i’m not that overly concerned about that. I’ll stick with the OneX for the high quality games and when Sony eventually drops the price of the Pro down i might buy one, but it’s not worth it for the 3-4 games i might play on it any given year.

“"But what happened to playing the best version of those games?"

lol.....good question.”

@razzer
funny coming from you, who everytime a xbox exclusive comes up you talk on and on about playing it on your high powered PC, but multiplats you typically play on your PS4 “for trophies” as you told me once on here.

Laughable

Razzer2688d ago (Edited 2688d ago )

@krib

Actually I said I played Nier: Automata, specifically, on PS4 because I thought it might be fun to try and get the Platinum and the PC support for the game was horrible. But yes, on a rare occasion I could see myself playing another multiplat on PS4 Pro to get another plat. That is quite different from streaming a game on PS Now which I would never do. So not sure what point you think you made.

You, on the other hand, are obviously quite willing to stoop as low as to stream all PS4 exclusives on PS Now to PC. Really? So much for you bragging about One X "high quality". All that native 4K yapping was just hot air after all. lol

Kribwalker2688d ago

“You, on the other hand, are obviously quite willing to stoop as low as to stream all PS4 exclusives on PS Now to PC. Really? So much for you bragging about One X "high quality". All that native 4K yapping was just hot air after all. lol”

stooping low? I have a PS4. I’m not streaming anything on PSnow. But i’m using it as an option against thunder cats thoughts on missing all the PS4 exclusives if you went PC and Xbox.
With sony releasing exclusives on PSnow, and if they want to keep expanding their service, it will start happening more and more, then you wouldn’t miss out on those games because you have the option to stream the games.

Razzer2687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

It is a false option, regardless, as those exclusives are not on the service anyway. One day? Ok....for the sake of argument, yeah. Until then, however, no, you can't play them on PC so your fictional option isn't an option at all. Thundercat77's point stands.

rainslacker2688d ago

kind of redundant wouldn't you say?

Kribwalker2688d ago (Edited 2688d ago )

with cross progression, cross buy and crossplay between a lot of xbox games and PC games plus gamepass games working on both Id say it’s not. you could go from one device in a room to another and just keep playing your games

rainslacker2688d ago

I suppose. But when it comes to available games, its still redundant. I respect the ability to play games elsewhere, but it seems like an expensive and limiting option to consider this the best set up. No problem if a person feels that way, but for the money, the PC, and any other system, is likely going to offer more. Some concessions may have to be made if one wants to play in multiple rooms, but I feel the added available content makes up for it.

DerekTweed2687d ago

Pc has games that can’t be played anywhere else. That’s why I have one. I don’t play games I can play on console on my pc.

rainslacker2687d ago

I understand that Derek. But practically everything that can be played on Xbox, can be played on PC.

Take-Two CEO Once Again Side Steps Grand Theft Auto 6 Price Point

Strauss Zelnick says price of GTA 6 is being carefully considered and that Rockstar is focused on "making the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth."

Kuma17d ago

If GTA 6 abandons everything that made GTA 5 great, it will crash and burn right out of the gate. GTA 5 was funny and not at all PC. My worry is that they will cave to the PC crowd and ruin the vibes.

Eonjay17d ago

They got freaking BBLs twerking on the top of trucks for the gram, the freaking Flordia joker, and dude running down the stree in their undies and you are worried about it being 'too PC'? The internet has runied gamers. It doesn't matter how non-PC they make the game, you will all listen to the grifters telling you not to believe your lying eyes lol.

gigoran817d ago

"Rockstar Games’ co-founder and former VP of Development Jamie King said he envisions GTA 6 as a game that’s “maybe not quite as edgy or quite as funny” as its satirical predecessors."

oh yeah, totally internet grifters spreading rumors...

blacktiger17d ago

That's part of the plan, they destroyed you but they need to destroy the shareholders? Only 1 shre holder is the true elite that don't care

1nsomniac17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Meh.., if it’s above £55 I ain’t buying it.

Rockstar are genuinely not half the company they used to be. I was a die hard GTA fan I’ve purchased every game and expansion and spin off day 1.

My opinion of GTA6 is that I can take it or leave it. Not bothered. They burnt too many bridges.

DaReapa17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

So they're actually leaving the door open for an L.A. Noire sequel? Nice!

He should just come out and say it already it's getting stupid it's going to be a 100 bucks $200 for the special edition🤡🤡; 29315;🤣♿

Storm2317d ago

I won't be getting this game until I can get it for $70. SHoot, I could wait for it to be even lower. I don't need the game that badly as my backlog is still huge and I am enjoying playing other things.

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay18d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn219d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn218d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown19d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay18d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay18d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac18d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger19d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300019d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde19d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde18d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".
