Sony has finally updated the status of the SOCOM: Confrontation patches many are eagerly waiting for. They comment on both server and client-side program fixes and where they are at the moment.

Last year I wrote an article titled, The State of SOCOM. I discussed my
love and history for the beloved third person shooter that helped pioneer
online multiplayer on consoles. It has been six years since we last had a
new SOCOM game.
Baffles me as to why they have not done anything with this franchise. Seeing as how it was #1 on the official PlayStation poll.
With all the trash put up weekly on the App Store why has nobody done a clone of this yet. I've been playing Defiance as my go to 3rd person since 2013 but still nothing like that old school Socom/Socom 2 up all night gameplay.
the only game on that list that's like socom is wild land if you want socom type games then you will have to invest in a PC
RAINBOW SIX: is the closest you'll get to Socom.
Also, in response to @lookatthisi
They let go the creators, and I think socom is a game that's hard to clone even the creators had a hard time making Socom 2, Socom 3.

"Would you purchase a game you can’t play for a single penny? Video game retailer GameStop seems to think that it is worth trying to sell to this market."
Depends the situation. Usually if they have a trade in X and get Y bonus for preowned purchases, a store will let you have the excess credit if you make 1 purchase and 1 cent is cheap enough where I wouldn't have to bother returning it or eating the cost out of laziness.

Stan replied passionately, sadness creasing his face, “they’re shutting us down. Offline, man, off-fucking-line. I dedicated my life to this, and it’s just ending. This is the last battle.” - PSLS
MAG will be missed, my all-time favorite shooter. They're shutting servers down in January.
Thank you very much Sony!
This is a blessing in disguise, when you consider Sony is planing to release MAG and two MMOs next year they need to learn how to get servers to support their future plans.
This game is really tactical. Just like MGO. A SUPER CAMPFEST.
Just like counterstrike, yes, SOCOM can turn into a campfest if the team is broken - just needs one or two lone wolves, the team starts to fail, and everyone starts to sit back and not try to achieve the objective and then they lose.
Either way, the team that functions better wins (for the most part) in this game and a big part of that is the excellent sound/chat modelling that is unique to SOCOM.
As it is, while there are known problems, personally I play every day - I get into a game quickly (always the first game I go to - maybe I'm just lucky), play for as long as I like, have fun, lolz, win, lose blah blah and it's all good. Why do other people get their problems - I don't know but I don't and it seems neither have all the people I've played with (at random) over the last few weeks.
Meanwhile the missing features are indeed missing and everyone would prefer they were there (I'm talking about better friend support for example), but I don't think that stops SOCOM being at its core a good game. If it can be patched to better level then great, as it stands I think anyone interested in team oriented shooters should take a look.
And if you've never played Counterstrike - then SOCOM is a no brainer if for no other reason than to get an idea of why CS is/was so popular.
r.
I never played CS. Was it 3rd person or 1st?
I wish SONY gave you the option of using L1 for ADS (scope zoom in). And what's with the optics taking up the whole screen? Makes the AIMPOINT, EOTECH and ACOG useless. In real life the ACOG and obviously the other two use the BIDON aiming method (both eyes open) so you should still be able to see around the optics. This is annoying. Do good players just avoid using the optics all together and stay in 3rd person view all the time? (except snipers)
