After A Historically Bad Launch, Is 'Fallout 76' Worth Saving?

Forbes: Fallout 76 is one of the worst-reviewed major releases in recent memory. Can it, and should it be saved?

anonymousfan2735d ago

As an online focused game I can imagine it'll get better... meanwhile it should have been cancelled rather than released in this piss poor state.

Forbidden_Darkness2735d ago

Yeah, I believe in a year or so from now, Fallout 76 might be worth playing, but right now it's more like an early access game advertised as a full fledged release. They should have had a long multi-month beta period to enhance the game before even thinking about a release date.

Stanjara2734d ago

In a year or so there will be other games to play. Not to mention a whole other generation.

raWfodog2734d ago

Yes, this reminds me of the launch of No Man's Sky. While a few people liked me enjoyed it, it was thrashed by a lot of people. But now, many of those people have come around to the new updates and even I can attest that it is a much better game than when it first launched.

frostypants2734d ago

I don't think it will get any better. They tried to shoehorn an online game into an engine geared towards single player, one that was already super outdated. It's so fundamentally jacked up that I doubt there's a ton to be done about it.

anonymousfan2734d ago

seing how they botched this game and how retarded their graphics engine is... I've been dialing back my expectations for Starfield and TES VI

chris2352734d ago

wrong question. the real question is if bethesda can be saved. i say no, they already passed the point of no return with the abysmal fallout 4. corporate greed took another one. there is no turning back from that.

Where'd all this FO4 hate come from? Seems relatively new. At least since all the crossplay talk from my memory, that's when I started seeing your kind of comments. Sony fanboy backlash?

I personally don't think it was as strong as New Vegas but it was about as good as FO3, certainly not nearly as buggy during my numerous playthroughs, in fact, NV was by far the buggiest game I had played.

Garrett_the_GOD2734d ago

What exactly did his comment have to do with Sony fanboys?he was strictly talking about Bethesda Game Studio..idk if you were aware of this or not but Bethesda is a third party publisher/developer..they arent a first party Microsoft studio,so how exactly did you come to the conclusion that anyone that has something negative to say about Fallout 4 is automatically a Sony fanboy?I've been playing Bethesda games since Morrowind and I've enjoyed everything from the time Morrowind released to Fallout 4's release.while I enjoyed Fallout 4 I thought Morrowind,Oblivion,Skyrim,Fall out 3 and Fallout New Vegas were all better games than Fallout 4..(I know New Vegas was developed by Obsidian but its still a better Fallout game than Fallout 4)..with that being said, after Fallout 4 I didnt think that was the end of Bethesda...after Fallout 76,I have my doubts about Bethesda's future ESPECIALLY after they recently came out and said they are planning on using this same ancient engine to develop Starfield AND Elder Scrolls 6..that will be 3 generations of using this engine which is beyond ridiculous as they shouldve been done with this engine after Fallout 4

ChristopherJack2729d ago

You new here Garrett? Ever since some of Bethesda's cross play comments regarding the PS4, the fanboys have been rabidly anti-Bethesda lately but it also seems to have translated into FO4 hatred as well.

Phoenix762734d ago

Bethesda themselves won't have to worry about being saved. They are one of the big publishers out there, plus they have the financial backing of Zenimax. Although I'm sure that the investors will be pissed at this.
Fallout 4, whilst not a good Fallout game, was a commercial success for Bethesda. But 76 is by far worse. It breaks most of the world lore and history, with untold amount of bugs (some which have plagued the game engine for years), and is nothing more than an asset flip with a MP mod and full on MT's for good measure.

The real question should be, has this train wreck finally highlighted up enough what's really wrong within the games industry? Why are substandard, misleading and unfinished products being pushed out on to the market? Its time for a change and hopefully the average consumer is now wising up to this problem.

frostypants2734d ago (Edited 2734d ago )

Please. Fallout 4 wasn't abysmal. It sold well and got very good critical reception, no matter how much a few very vocal diehards hate it or spam low scores. Hate on Fallout 76 all you like, but let's not succumb to revisionist history and pretend Fallout 4 was anything close to this.

If they can find a way to patch in the fun, I say go for it

cabbitwithscissors2734d ago

The dice has been thrown. Historically, game reviewers have never given a second look at a game after their review, and have never changed the scores given to games. Why should they do so now ? Just because it's Bethesda ? If they do start doing this, they had better start doing it for others as well, or else it's going to look like favours being exchanged.

Cmv382734d ago

Not true, drive club and no man sky come to mind. But I don't think there's much saving that can happen with 76
