Why I didn’t Review Fallout 76

ThisGenGaming says: "Instead of writing a review for Fallout 76, here I am putting into words exactly why I won’t be reviewing the game, or at least not yet."

ThisGenGaming doesn't get codes from publishers and has often displayed bad ethics like breaking embargo dates, which probably is the reason why. Just do in-progress reviews and start writing actual substance. Plus cut down on the ads, because my malware blocker is screaming.

TGGJustin2745d ago (Edited 2745d ago )

Actually we do get reviews from publishers. Most of them in fact including Fallout 76. The author of the review is simply taking his time reviewing the game. Not sure what embargo's you think we broke either. If we did that we wouldn't have good relationships with publishers.

bloodyspasm2745d ago (Edited 2745d ago )

You're right it wasnt a review code, we got a physical press kit. But if you read the article, I'm trying to explain why I am NOT reviewing the game in its current state.
I have to carefully balance which games to play in the few hours of free time I have. I don't intend to spend those looking at "connection lost" screens. I could just give the game a terribly low score in frustration, but without being able to decently play the rest of it, how in heavens name could I determine that number?

RpgSama2744d ago

If you cannot actually play the game because of "connection lost" screens it deserves the low score it gets, I think the first thing you should be able to do when buying a game is actually be able to play it

Chaos_Order2744d ago

@RpgSama

Agreed. If a game is literally unplayable it should get a fat 0/10, and only get bumped up at a later date if the game becomes functional. (Not saying Fallout 76 is a 0/10 btw, haven't played it) The state of games being complete messes at launch is a blight on the industry and what better way to dissuade this than to tell it like it is?

cyber_daemonx2743d ago

Take as long as you like, the game is garbage regardless.

knickstr2743d ago

Seems to me that a game should be reviewed upon release. Not when they fix it. They decided to launch the game now and if it doesnt work, review accordingly.

I hope some places do a "re review" at the year mark to see if it's worth buying then since it definitely isn't right now.

King_Noctis2744d ago

A re review is definitely should be done when it comes to live service game like this one.

CarlDechance2743d ago

Then every game should get a "re review" to account for patches, fixes, etc. Or......devs shouldn't release the game until it is ready to be played. Don't get why reviewers have to do their job twice because devs didn't do their job right the first time.

King_Noctis2743d ago (Edited 2743d ago )

I didn’t say that the re reviews should be done to change people’s mind about the game when it initially launches. I’m just saying the re-reviews should be done just to inform people about how much the game has changed since launch.

And it wouldn’t be the first time that a game got re-reviews either. Game like No Man Sky got re-reviews alot after one year and after the big patch hit.

Poopmist2743d ago

@CarlDechance as a consumer I don't see how that would be a bad thing as I like to make an informed decision about games I purchase.

Daeloki2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

Actually, this is enough of a review for me. If the game is still too unstable to even be properly reviewed, then it is most definitely not worth my money.
