It's not a bug. The game characters are walking out on the game to protest Rockstar's working conditions.

DrumBeat2743d ago

This game has so many bugs. The train literally disappeared from my game. When I would go to purchase tickets, it would take me into a five second load screen. After the load screen, I'd be standing in front of the ticket booth with no deduction from my balance.

Trains are disappearing into thin air and passengers are hovering where they once sat or stood. Horses are flying as if they had rocket propulsion in their asses. Check out this gem. https://www.reddit.com/r/re...

Rockstar had eight years. EIGHT.

UltraNova2743d ago

And here I thought all those man hours put into this game would at least eliminate huge bugs like this...oh well back to crunch for R* employees to patch the game.

King_Noctis2743d ago

I’m sure a patch will be put out soon.

UltraNova2743d ago

Of course it will but how many missions did we lose? And no I'm not losing 40+ hrs to restart the game after they fix it.

MrVux0002743d ago (Edited 2743d ago )

@UltraNova
You did not miss any missions. however the camp immersion does suffer with this sort of thing.
You miss out on some item-requests, and some commentary from them.

To some folk it aint a big deal, but to people like me that likes interacting with characters and likes character lore it is quite displeasing to say the least.

I doubt you will have to restart the game, after the fix comes in...however it may be a while.
It's been almost two weeks since people started complaining, and it has only been 2 or so days, since R* noted the problem and stated they are working on a fix.

Makes me wonder how burned out their game-testers were from the crunch, to not notice this ***easy-to-get*** bug.

And to recall some reviewers stated this is one of the most polished games ever made...

Zeke682743d ago

Headline is wrong, you can't "fix" this bug if you already got it... sadly :( Headline should be " How to avoid bug"...
"Restart misson - not restart checkpoint" That's not a solution for people like me who had over 90 gamehours in. If you have to restart from first mission on chapter 2 you might as well restart entire game and check that they are there and save a few times before starting "Polite Society, Valentine Style"-mission.
And Rockstar is looking into patching it. How ? I wonder.
When you start next chapter camp is moved and you can't possibly go back to get those missing missions. This bug should been found by their QA-team, simple as that.

SOLUTION (how to avoid and check if you got all people in camp):
(Credit to MrOrangeXD on Reddit:)
" What DID work:

I deleted all of my non-install data: Profile data, save data, autosaves, options etc. (I uploaded my manual save to the cloud so i could resume my game if this whole thing didn't work).

Then i started a new game. As soon as Chapter 2 starts, I talked to Abigail and Sadie (Jack didn't seem to be anywhere) and I saved the game. I quit the game, and go back in. I sleep, and then I speak once again to Sadie, Abigail and Jack (he finally showed up).

I then avoided Uncle's mission like the plague. Instead i left camp without doing any missions and did some hunting for a bit. When i returned Abigail, Sadie and Jack were still at camp. I saved the game again.

Finally, I have have the confidence to do an actual mission, and so far so good, every time i return to camp, Sadie, Abigail and Jack are still at camp.

This seems to have fixed it. Added bonus: John actually sleeps in his tent now.

I'll update if they suddenly disappear again. But this seems to be the fix. Read my steps and feel free to experiment: It's possible that deleting the profile data is what fixes it, rather than deleting saves. It's also possible that immediately starting Uncle's mission is what causes it. It may also be possible that save and quitting at the start of Chapter 2 is what "fixes it". But I already spent all day playing around with this, and now i just wanna play. Good luck everyone.

EDIT: Looking back at it, deleting profiles and stuff probably wasn't necessary. The more likely fix was that you need to "lock the state of the camp in, by being present": When Chapter 2 starts, talk to those 3 characters to make sure they're there. Save the game. Quit and load back in to refresh the camp with you in it. Sleep till night time and make sure they are all asleep in their designated tents. Return to daytime if you want. Leave camp without doing a mission. Come back. Find those characters to make sure they're there. Save again. Then go off and do a mission. If they're still at camp after that, you have fixed the bug. I've already been through the intro 3 times, so I'm not going to do anymore experimenting aha.

Nearly done with Chapter 2, and the camp is so much livelier :) "

I followed this and are now back in middle of chapter 2 and all people is still there. :)

UltraNova2743d ago

I have the bug God damn it and I'm not going to lose 40+ hrs to fix it. I have one more mission to complete Ch. 2.

So how many missions did I miss?

UNCHARTED2FANATIC2743d ago

40+ hours and only on Ch 2? 👽

Potnoodle9992743d ago

Yh anyone actually know which missions are missed from this? Everyone mentions missions are missed but no one actually wants to tell us what we’re missing out on for Christ sake!

Zeke682743d ago (Edited 2743d ago )

Taken from same Reddit thread:
"Yeah. Im so glad I restarted and did this. There's so much I missed the first time. e.g. Jack adopting a permanent dog in Chapter 3, Abigail convincing Sadie not to kill herself in Chapter 2, Jack throwing rocks at Keiran, Dutch and Sean teaching life lessons to Jack, Micah coming onto Abigail."

So it seems worth it. I restarted but saved my 90+ hour save just in case. I even got the white arabic horse on this playthrough so that's a bonus for sure ! :D

Edit: @ Uncharted2fanatic: I was at 62-63 hours when I started chapter 3 on first time playing this game before restarting due to the bug. I most have spent at least 25 hours just hunting Legendary Animals and hunting to get material to bag upgrades and so on. This is a game like WoW where time is just running away if you allow yourself to get truly lost in it :)

UltraNova2743d ago

Thanks Zeke.

Let me get this straight, does this bug affect story.elements in later chapters if you got it in Ch. 2?

Zeke682743d ago

No, as far as I can tell, these "people" show up for their respective mission throughout the game, but you'll miss out on personal missions and bonus stuff like the dog and so on.

7 years in the making. It really shouldn't have bugs.

Sherif1292743d ago

Dude no software is without bugs. That’s just how things are.

DrumBeat2743d ago

It should not have bugs of this magnitude though. My train literally vanished from the game world. It's as if it wasn't included in my game. I started wondering what was going on after 3 days of play with no sight of the train. I never used them, and I never had need for them, until the Sharpshooter challenge - "Shoot five birds from the top of a moving train."

Buying tickets takes me to a five second load screen. When it's done, I'm back in the station standing in front of the teller with no money deducted from my balance. These are top tier devs with huge budgets and plenty of time. This shouldn't happen.

King_Noctis2743d ago (Edited 2743d ago )

No game is ever bug free especially in a huge open world game like this one, no matter how long it is developed.

DrumBeat2742d ago

OK, now half of my camp is missing. OMFG. I had everything upgraded and decked out. The shaving stand is gone. The ledger and contribution box is gone. LMAO. What a joke.

You think Rockstar views Red Dead 2 as a failure because it didn't sell 150m copies?

jznrpg186d ago

3 billion or so in revenue not including online stuff I’m sure they don’t

SethNW185d ago

I am pretty sure they don't. It was profitable and made them a lot of money. Not GTA5 money but far from failure. Maybe it is lower priority franchise, due to being smaller, but that is about the lowest they would put it as. Only thing they do consider failure is RDR2 Online, unlike GTA5 Online, that RDR2 Online flopped. Hence why it got less support. And when it come to profits, sales for both combined don't come close to GTA Online microtansactions. Hence why everything very quickly got canceled and GTA Online was top priority, so no GTA6 for a long time, no DLC for GTA5, despite there being 5 DLCs planned, at least I think it was 5, give or take one. But as I see it, they needed to rejuvenate interest and all, hence why GTA6 eventually is getting made. But what they are really looking forward to is refresh of Online.

ZeekQuattro185d ago

Only in terms of the online aspect of the game. They didn't support it as much as they did GTA V Online. I remember people being pissed about that.

jznrpg186d ago

I own a few GTAs but never played them. I love Red Dead though

Yui_Suzumiya180d ago (Edited 180d ago )

Boring and overrated. Red Dead Redemption is pretty good though. The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is my personal GOAT. We need more stuff like that from TooKyo.

victorMaje186d ago

I must be one of the few who are fine with the GTA6 delay. People treat that game like it’s the 2nd coming lol.

FIELDMARSHALL_P185d ago

My daughter asked me how I felt about I shrugged and said I don't care gives me time to finish up games I already have. It's all good let them make the best game they can.

RedDevils186d ago

Wish they make another Manhunt or Bully.

damn, thats a ridiculous number

The world they built is pretty amazing. Unfortunately, the game was mostly boring to me. I definitely had fun in some parts, but it didn't do it for me as a whole like the first one did. I loved RDR so much.

The budgets and time it takes to make games these days is out of control. Such a big risk. If a game isn't a huge hit, it is often it for a studio. Scary. I really miss the PS2 and PS3 days where studeios could make 4 games in a generation and take risks in making something new. And so many were using their own engines. Those were the days.

neutralgamer1992190d ago

Agreed. I love RDR but couldn't get into RDR2. The animations take forever and game slows you down on purpose. It won't let you have fun because R* want us to play the game they want to. I know millions love RDR2 and I even bought and own it. But just wasn't for me.

It's like comparing GTA4 to saints row 2. One game was about fun while the other was about realism and that's coming from someone who beat GTA4 many times. I much rather a game be fun to play than chase realism

YodaCracker190d ago

GTA IV’s realism is what made it so much more fun for me. I loved experimenting with the physics.

Storm23189d ago

I bought RDR2 also. Put 100+ hours into it and beat it our of respect for Rockstar and all the people saying it was the greatest game ever. RDR blew my mind but might also have been the best time in gaming for me personally. l loved that PS3 gen so much.

I am excited to see what GTA6 is like.
