
Blu-ray.com writes, according to the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), the sales of Blu-ray Disc players and recorders in Japan represented 31% of the total market from October 2007 through September 2008. The represents a 10,700% increase in Blu-ray shipments in Japan from a year ago, which has driven a 4.5% increase in the consumer electronics market in general.
In other words, Blu-ray is here to stay.

31% of the total DVD market is huge. That will double by this time next year. Japan is always hip on the cutting edge of technology. Wow.
And this was done when PS3 only sold around 8,000 per week. Imagine what happens when PS3 sells 60,000 units every week when PS3 finally gets the games and at a low price that appeals to the Japanese.
Funny thing is this is a country that has a S**t load of internet Bandwidth. You would think that they would use the internet to get their media, but they are using Blu-Ray. That shows a lot.
Well, I won't be buying any until the price drops below 3000 yen. There just isn't enough difference on a 32 inch TV to justify paying more money than that.
