When the economies balance out, which it looks like Europe and Asia will before the US, the value of the stock will increase since there is less being traded.

Welcome to economics 101 360 fanboys. You see, SONY encompasses a more diverse portfolio than MS--gaming, movies, music, electronics. While cutting forecasts by 57% seems like a bad thing, that's across the board and is standard for a company like Sony, especially during financial troubles.

Or it could just be a case of undervaluing performance. That way, if their expected profit, which this article states is $500 million, is more.. then the stock goes back up and NEW shareholders will buy into it.

Leave it to a tech website to completely ignore the nuances of economics and focus completely on the insular notion of "Sony = Electronics; Therefore if the electronics side fails so does Sony."

I really think that Sony makes great Monitors (T.V.'s) and great camera's. Their home audio is "O.K", more for the people who want decent quality, but not pay much. Their speakers are poor. There recent gaming console the PS3 has turned out to be a huge failure, and the sales of the PS3 are speaking volumes. Though, I do like some of the things on the console. Their portable audio is just a fraction of what it used to be.

Like the author has stated, Sony has really lost their brand, and people just don't find the value or willing to pay a "premium" for their products anymore. I still think they make great monitors, it is just that I can get equal quality and a bigger screen size for the same money.

I use my PS3 more for a bluray player, renting them at blockbuster buy not buying them as they are too expensive. Most of the games I buy on the PC or 360.

It is funny that so many people seem to be so concerned for the Sony brand when they are clearly doing extremely in spite of M$'s attempts to bring them down...You now have a renown website (Metacritic) which has been recently proven to be biased against the PS3 (making up rating scores/using different sources for reviews even though the same source may review games on both the 360 and PS3)...You have Cnet who is constantly bashing the PS3 and praising the 360, Gamestop employees lying to customers in order to sway them into a 360 purchase and you have Television shows like Xplay who openly admit they don't like the Japenese.

These are all very popular businesses who have a lot of influence and yet the PS3 is still around...It managed to put HD DVD down in record time and now has some of the best gaming experiences that are available today.

It has been an uphill battle for Sony and with every obstacle overcome, there seem to be haters adding more obstacles...so I applaud Sony for not giving up as they clearly know that they have a winning console.

I find it ultimately funny how some rabid haters keep spreading the nonsense that the PS3 sold so horrible that its an epic failure. Facts state that it sold MORE units in their first two years than MS sold xbox360 in their first two years. So if the PS3 is an epic sales failure, what does that tell you about the Xbox360, especially as the 360 sells at a MUCH lower price ?

Bottom line, the MORE expensive system sells MORE units in the same timeframe than the cheaper system. Now tell me again what system is a sales failure...

It is obvious that the recent cut in EARNINGS is due to the unfavorable YEN price. This results in Sony products costing MORE to produce in Japan when selling said products outside Japan. And combined with the financial crisis that will soon be followed by a consumer credit crisis in the US as an unhealthy amount of people in the US kept paying everything with credit cards, even mortage rates ... this will crash BIG time.

And its a fact that Don Reisinger is a clown. Check his past nonsense articles. He can't even predict his way home without a guide. He predicted HD-DVD to win ... when it was already loosing week after week in disk sales.

For me, the jury is still out on wether the Playstation 3 is going to be the profit machine Sony hoped. I think it is going to be profitable, but due to the competition in this generation, it will never be as profitable as the playstaion 2. (I know the mantra about it is a ten year system, whatever.. will see in ten years)

I think its even worse than most think. Take this into consideration-Last gen Sony obliterated the competition with the PS2, earning 75% of the marketshare. Now look where they are.

The PS3 has been a disaster of epic proportions from day one. Nintendo has lapped Sony twice, but if you really want to see just how bad Sony has screwed up with the PS3 look at the sales figures of PS3 vs 360.

The 360 is in the process of losing site of Sony for good with the recent price drop. But what really is bad is the XBOX 360's hardware is AWFUL. Any and everyone knows that if you buy a 360 it will break on you multiple times in a short time. The hardware design, and resulting problems should have been the end for Xbox, but thankfully for MS the competition is the "complete debacle", better known as the PS3.

Yep, people would rather buy a 360 and have it sent off for repairs multiple times instead of buying a PS3. That should tell you a lot about the PS3. Simply put, while the 360 hardware is complete poop. The "360 experience" is phenomenal when compared to the overall "PS3 experience".

Articles like these are almost impossible to comment on in the Gamer Zone. If this article was a post here it would have needed to be put in the Open Zone or this guy would have been banned. But honestly it's the heavily negative articles that fill the internet and game journalism in general regardless of site. The media finds success in providing the fire and torches for the fanboys, and the way the anti-PS3 articles keep popping up everywhere I feel like I'm in a time-warp because it feels like I've been taken back to when the PS3 just launched. I agree that Sony is in a little trouble, but I don't think it's all Sony's fault. Microsoft's and Nintendo's gaming strategy is bringing the gaming genre down. There really was no reason for the 360's price to drop so low other than to divert PS3 buyers. The Wii is innovative, but also a step backwards in technology. Should the attitude now be to make cheap consoles with less technological advancement?

The article has a point when it comes to the other Sony industries. My wife is Japanese and refuses to buy anything but Sony products with those insane premium prices. This causes many disagreements. We bought a Sony digital camera, but I had to convince her that a Samsung LCD TV was just as good or better than the Sony model (and cheaper).

What's wrong with Sony swallowing it's pride and dropping the price just a little bit. The end result would be more happy consumers and more current PS2 owners moving over to the PS3.

Sony isn't the only one that's f***ing up Microsoft is also screwing up.

Microsoft is also losing a ton of money the first Xbox didn't even make a profit because of the hard drive so they were out $70 a console for every console sold, also gotta factor in those 3 year warranties, RROD Issues, and their losing 1st party devs (ex. Bungie, Bioware, Tecmo, etc.).
-Microsoft is trying to make up the money by charging you to play online and charges you a lot by making you buy a lot of accessories when in fact the 360 should of came w/ these features (ex. Wi-Fi, Charge & Play Kit, Bigger Hard Drive, etc.)

Sony lost a lot of money too PS3 costs too much to make had to take a loss by having a price drop.
-Sony is making up the money by having 2 other platforms like the PSP/PS2 and continues to fund more 1st party games then 3rd party which is a smart move on their part.

The only people actually making money right now on these current gen consoles is Nintendo.

Charge you less, give you some innovative games, and has a portable DS to also make money.

Sad times for PS3 owners, the future of the Playstation brand is at stake here. Sony may have to cut somthing loose to recover some loses. This would explain why Sony is losing exclusives, they don't have the money to match Microsofts offers. Forcing Blu-ray on the playstation was a mistake, it's keeping the price to high for the economy. It's as bad as Microsofts mistake with RROD, but Microsoft had the money to save and turn it around.

There is no way they can lower the price for the PS3, times are rough and no one knows when the rough times will end. It's not like Sony did it on purpose, they didn't know the worlds economy would pitfall. They also spend way to much money and take to long to develop games, that cost. I think Sony could cut the Cell and make a new SKU with a cheaper easer to use chip.

This generation of consoles isn't even over yet, so let's look at the facts:

- the 360 is selling only SLIGHTLY better than the Xbox did within the same time frame

- if you compare the first two years of the 360 to the first two years of the PS3, the PS3 is doing MUCH better. Plus, the 360 had no competition. The PS3 had competition.

- the PS3 is slated to be a "10-year console", whereas most analysts say that a new Xbox will be out in 2010-2011. So, the concentration of development may shift back to the PS3 at that time.

- The PS3 has been gradually catching up to the 360 AT NEARLY DOUBLE THE PRICE, with fewer exclusives, and with a smaller library. What does that say about the 360?

- After 3 years, the 360 still suffers from a variety of hardware failures (some are under warranty, and some are not). What will be the state of the 360 hardware after ANOTHER 3 years?

I just wanted to point those things out. No one can predict the outcome of this generation, but before we all start screaming "SONY IS TEH FAILLURZ!!!", we should examine the cold, hard facts.

Is different when you buy Sony 46" HDTV than a Vizio or a Magnavox 46" HDTV TV, it's different when you buy a Sony walkman mp3 player than a RCA mp3 player. It's not just about the brand, but also about the quality. Sony's brand has it's quality, whether is a VAIO laptop, Sony Ericsson cell phone, or sony digital cameras. would you say driving a Hyundai is the same as driving a BMW? I don't think so.

#1) The Xbox 360 heat issues were resolved in Summer 07.
#2) All owners who have a problem get a free fix.
#3) The failure rate isnt near 30%, that is made-up internet garbage. The rate is less than half that (as we learned when the 3rd party warranty company revealed its numbers earlier this year) -- and only for early designs.

This is true. Many of us had problems with our PS2s and Sony did not handle the problem nearly as well as Microsoft has. In fact, Sony had to have a class action lawsuit leveled at them before they did anything at all.

I also agree about the supposed 30% failure rate. That number was pure internet conjecture. The only RELIABLE figures we have point to a percentage around half that. Not surprisingly, though, Sony fanboys jumped on the unproven higher percentage and began to repeat it every chance they got. They also try to make it sound as if newer 360s are still having the same degree of problems, even though there isn't a single shred of evidence to support that claim. In fact, it's quite the opposite--failure reports for newer Xbox 360s have been much, much rarer.

The fact is, MOST of us have not had problems with our 360s. The ones that unfortunately do have problems...of course it isn't an ideal situation, but at least Microsoft completely takes care of the problem.

The original Xbox was much more reliable than the PS2, and I think some Sony fanboys forget that.

Thats approx 14 to 15 million unique customers, (i.e. 14 to 15 million working xb360 in the world and approximately 7 to 8 million dead Xbox 360) so therefore PS3 is in the lead.

On a side note. Squarinnex deveoper of Final fantasy. Sony had 10% stake in the company, so therefore every copy of FF sold on XB360, the XB360 fans will be contributing 10% of the payment to SONY.

Videogames in general do not take that big of hits during economic downturns. The reason for this is that they provide a high return on a hefty investment. You get more hours of entertainment than any other form of media. A $60 investment can net you 30-60 hours of fun in most cases.

Who cares if Sony is not winning. Did it stop people from enjoying the first X-box when it wasn't winning? Sony will be around for a long time to come.

Google teaming up with Sony :O, i would figure Google to be making their own console for next gen. guess joint venture is cooler =.=

Sony definitely has lost its mighty throne. Once it was seen as the best in electronics and now it hovers in the middle of the pack. The ps2 was the king of consoles at the time. Naturally the ps3 should have the same success. Right? Well it's not and you can blame the ps3 for Sony's downfall.

Sony needs to stop drinking it's own urine.

Sony's getting more press than the xbox and it's all thanks to these anti-sony folks. interesting how that turns out. makes people do a little extra research on Sony, but then they still buy the Sony product. Funny how that works out. To me my xbox is good for gaming and only gaming. My ps3 handles everything else from gaming to multimedia. All you fanboys have a 1 track mind.
