Why can Sony and Nintendo seem to make games without MT's, but other companies can't? I won't be getting this until it hits the bargain bin. I'll probably buy it used until this nonsense stops.

Naughty Dog games have MT, at least for this gen. And it's trash, but single player games should not have MT whatsoever

TheEnigma3132785d ago

MT's should be completely out of SP games.

Well, to be fair, you're talking about platform holders who have enough other sources of revenue and they receive a cut from every game that hits their platform (more so if purchased digitally).

Also, I noticed that you excluded Microsoft. I agree on this point, but now I am curious to know the central complaint...

Microsoft focuses on multiplayer titles and they do feature microtransactions. But I also hear microtransactions are fine in multiplayer games and the issue people have is with single player games like DMC5 featuring them. Seems like a fair complaint (withholding judgment on this game since I don't know if Capcom will force them to make acceptable progress or not, but I I'm doubting it). Does this mean microtransactions in general are totally unacceptable to you?

I don't like them and I never buy them, but I'm curious to hear your input.

i’m ok with MTs if they are well done (I know MTs aren’t great, but they’re there to stay it seems so let’s do them right) Not Pay to win, cosmetic only, but in return you get free DLC. MTs you can chose to buy or not, but if you wanna keep up with most MP games, when they release a map pack or expansions and you have to pay for it, that sucks. I’d rather the cosmetic MTs and free content so i can chose not to buy them and i don’t have to spend $20 on a map pack

Kribwalker,

I think things like map packs, cosmetic DLC, and missions are fair game for cash. Developers are putting in a lot of work to expand these games and I don't think it's fair to them for us to always get them free. As long as they do it right. Dark Souls' Artorias of the Abyss or even all of The Witcher III's content do very well to justify asking gamers for more money. They're very good. And I don't mind paying for it. I think Warhawk asking for cash for the map packs was fine too. Those maps were awesome.

I only really disagree with microtransactions where they are practically needed for progress. Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition was really good about not impeding progress at all, and I hope 5 continues this trend. Likewise, pay to win multiplayer is pretty messed up. At the same time, if the game is free to play, it's hard to dispute that. Now if a game is full price and pay to win, that's a problem. Also, locking a true ending behind DLC (like Prince of Persia 2008).

Because their games are to sell more consoles, not to make a lot of money, by selling consoles they gain market share and profit from third parties.

look no matter how you try to push it there's no way micro transactions aren't a cancer to a game. If there's no incentive to buy them then why even add them? They're going to make it grindy as hell in an effort to make them look more appealing to buy. Yea if you want to dedicate a year of your life to the grind, sure, you don't need to spend a penny on anything... but you know as someone trying to sell a good you have to make it enticing and how do you do that with micro transactions? I rest my case!

Poopmist2785d ago

To make more money probably. Most people may not even notice them. I didn't when I played DMC 4 SE.

CorndogBurglar2785d ago

Not saying I agree with MT's or even like them, but you are asking a question with a very obvious answer.

"If there's no incentive to buy them then why even add them?"

They add them because people DO buy them. They wouldn't spend the time and money on coming up with content to sell if people weren't buying them and they were losing money on it. Bottom line is they make extra money.

jeremyj29132785d ago

If you've ever played a Devil May Cry game before then you kno they are inherently "grindy". You have always had to play through the story multiple times to get enough orbs to buy all the upgrades and abilities.

DarXyde2784d ago

I think the only Devil May Cry game where I couldn't unlock everything in one playthrough is the original Devil May Cry 3.

All of the others are totally doable in one play. You just need to S rank your missions.

jeremyj29132783d ago

@DarXyde
You got all the abilities and upgrades in DMC1 on the first play through? Damn.

AizenSosuke2785d ago

Waiting till major price drop, to buy this no MTs in my SP games.

ApocalypseShadow2785d ago

Ah. The golden days when you could just buy a game, play it, and unlock all the extra fun stuff or by trying to figure out the secret codes.

Today's greed is ridiculous.
