I had high hopes for Nintendo's new Switch Online service, but now I find it hard to justify spending $20 per year on it.

Cole Young almost made the jump from movie newcomer to game canon in Mortal Kombat 1, but a last-minute time crunch shut it down.

A rare first-party Nintendo games sale has just gone live on Amazon with around a dozen of the company's titles discounted.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.
“I had high hopes for Nintendo's new Switch Online service”
That was your first mistake, especially when looking at Nintendo’s past history in the online arena. Nintendo barely offered a substantial service when it was free, so idk why you’d think it’d be even better with a paid service.
“Considering that the service is essentially launching a year later than planned, one would think Nintendo would have something really nice to show off.”
It’s especially jarring when you compare Nintendo Switch Online to what PlayStation Plus offered when it first released on PSP and PS3 six and four years after those platforms released respectively.
Especially jarring in that PS+ was an optional service whereas this NSO is a requirements and comes up underwhelming in so many areas. Whereas the former went onto offer so much value that people didn’t mind paying for it, in comparison to its competiting service that even adopted its ideas, the latter has people skeptical of even paying for it no matter how cheap it is compared to the competiting services.
Quite. My brains utter and disgustingly confused as to who makes these odd decisions like blocking cloud saves for some games and cant even implement a voice chat through the switch. Im still getting it since I do need the cloud save and its dirt cheap. Until we can hack our switches (which Ninty seems to REALLY want us to do) and backup saves ourselves like how we should be able to officially, not much we can do.
You can't expect a $20 service to match a $60 one. People shouldn't have had even moderate expectations at that price-point. Nintendo should be applauded for not over charging for a below average service. Considering their history with over-pricing all of their weaksauce hardware compared to the competition, this is a nice change of pace.
Give me ice climber Co OP and I'm good!!
