To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

That is a lame excuse, all other platforms seem to be able to deal with such potential issues.
So vote with your wallet and steer clear of the games that don't allow it, which will be the minority of titles in the first place.
That will send the message far more clearly than acting like it ruins everything about the system. Especially when 99% of players won't have any issues with their saves that will require cloud saves in the first place, just like on other systems.
I’m a Nintendo fan but I don’t support this kind of limitation. Nintendo should have allowed cloud save for all games (or at least, limited cloud save for multiplayer games which have rankings like Splatoon or Smash).
Let see if the pressure will get to them.
