Marvel's Spider-Man (PS4) - E3 2017 vs. Final Release

IGN takes a look at last year's extended E3 gameplay demo for Marvel's Spider-Man and see how it compares to the final release of the game.

Zeke682733d ago

IGNorant site makes a last attempt to steer up some fanboy drama... No surprise here.

russo1212733d ago

Know I understand what IGN means.

Babadook72732d ago (Edited 2732d ago )

We’ve already gotten a detailed analysis from digital foundry. Who cares what IGN has to say about it?

gangsta_red2732d ago

Not really sure what you mean since the actual article makes no mention of anything and just has a comparison video shown. If anything it just goes to prove that improvements were made and not the opposite.

n1kki62732d ago

First any type of visual changes are not going to impact my enjoyment of the game. But to say improvements were made is crazy talk. Devs can continue to hide behind the "changes happen" excuse when they know damn well what a console is and isn't capable of. Shit happens and things might need to be downgraded, but some people preorder and buy consoles based on visual fidelity. This acceptance of misleading visuals isn't acceptable. There are reflections in the e3 trailer that they had to know wouldn't run on a real world PS4, but there it is.

Nyxus2732d ago

@ n1kki6:

"But to say improvements were made is crazy talk."

Except Digital Foundry already confirmed the game was upgraded.

gangsta_red2732d ago

@n1kki6

Reflections may have been removed but you never know if they were removed for reasons to improve other parts of the game.

And you can't deny there are definitely improvements made in the final version compared to the E3 demo that they showed off.

mkis0072732d ago

N1kki6

You have been proven wrong before you even posted that. That is called being stupid.

Imalwaysright2732d ago (Edited 2732d ago )

Nyxus

I don't need Eurogamer to tell me what I can see with my eyes. Overall the retail version looks better than the E3 demo.

Seraphim2732d ago (Edited 2732d ago )

what's funny is it actually looks better post E3. That E3 video has a shiny radiance to it. Like Spiderman and some of the assests, charcters are action figures. The release video is colorful and true. Showing the lack of polish at E3 and showing the finished product at final release. at least imo. And this is exactly what one should expect of a game in development...

cee7732732d ago

Pause at 2:09 and 2:16 These two parts alone confirm better lighting and details in the the final build.

Sam Fisher2732d ago (Edited 2732d ago )

What bothers me is that, the game really get a graphical downgrade. I have it and when i played it i noticed the difference, why cant ppl just admit it.

AmUnRa2732d ago (Edited 2732d ago )

I have more trust in experts from DF than a random gamer, like Sam Fisher, who have no expertice on the matter. So DF sayd there is NO downgrade, than there is NO downgrade, more like an upgrade.
Xboxfans can scream downgrade all day long, but they are sooo wrong it is not funny anymore. The truth is out there.

Sam Fisher2731d ago (Edited 2731d ago )

@ AmUnRa
Hey homie, i actually own only a ps4 (atmus11 is my psn id), so im no expert but i admit shit. Xbx has garbage games except for basically halo. But i would i will give credit when its due, bad or good.

Is it me or IGNs video player is always messed up?? I have tried in several different computers and its always broken...

Zeke682733d ago

Just clicked to see if it started but no problem here. Weird, I use chrome and have made no special adjustments to my settings and all youtube movies etc works fine. I just saw first few seconds because I wait for the game to see it first hand but it seemed to work just fine.

Seraphim2732d ago

Running Chrome w/ ADP & Adblock, no problem running...

Thepcz2732d ago

I prefer the E3 Spiderman character costume. The release one looks too cartoony

Critic4l_Strik32732d ago

@everyone

I dont mean playing the video itself, but the player framing. Its always off area, buttons are cropped, etc

His suit is missing the refracted light on the fabric in the final version, besides that, everything is better in the final version. No downgrade here

ziggurcat2733d ago

"His suit is missing the refracted light on the fabric in the final version"

it's not missing anything, they just changed the material properties of the default suit so that it wasn't as plastic-y.

Araragifeels 2733d ago

I believe Witcher 3 went thru the same process since the world used to look colorless but after changes, the world was more colorful and brighter

RabbitFly2732d ago

Yea. It's like these people think that having things look like plastic = better graphics.

I get that it is shiny and all, but having reflections that properly adjust based on the material it is reflecting off is objectively the more advanced version

GottaBjimmyb2733d ago (Edited 2733d ago )

You guys on this site are so full of it some times, there is no way anyone can actually say that the released version is better than the E3 reveal. The E3 version is easily superior. That said, it is not a downgrade and this argument is always stupid. The game is developed using a target and the target is assumed and attempted to be reached, by the time the game is finished development, sometimes they are below their assumptions, sometimes above, it is nothing nefarious. That said, that does not make it true that the released version looks better and anyone claiming it is better is just lying.

I will say contrast and resolution (or post effects like aliasing, less jaggies regardless) do seem better in the final release, but only one of those is a graphical quality.

SoulWarrior2733d ago (Edited 2733d ago )

Watch the full digital foundry analysis if you still think the E3 build is superior, it all gets well and truly debunked and shows that the release version is clearly better.

Dark_Knightmare22732d ago

Yeah you’re right I’m going to listen to you instead of digital foundry who are professionals that said the game was actually upgraded from the e3 2017 demo and debunked the downgrade claims oh wait im not a crazy person so I can’t agree with you

deckardreplicant2732d ago (Edited 2732d ago )

Dark_Knightmare 2 - Digitalfoundry did analyze and found out that in terms of graphics and overall quality the game final version was indeed superior but some things are changed as for the sake of artistic changes, Now Artistic changes are subjective. Some like E3 Version (I personally liked that) Some Like Final Version.

Prince-Ali2732d ago

looool... it's hilarious how dumb you look right now! ahahah

trooper_2732d ago

Are you people seriously blind or ignorant? You can CLEARLY see an upgrade.

GottaBjimmyb2732d ago

https://www.google.com/amp/...

I assume you mean this article, if which if you read, is pretty much exactly what I just said (despite not having read it prior) increase in resolution with changes in textures and lighting (which the article gives no opinion on other than changed, but by even the most incapable eye are worse)

Foxhound9222732d ago

@Gottabwrong

I would suggest getting your eyes checked.

CarlDechance2732d ago

The difference is entirely aesthetic. If you don’t like the changes fine, but stop yapping about others lying. Such an idiotic thing to say about subjective opinions.

2732d ago
CarlDechance2732d ago

@Turd

Nope. Sorry, but you can make up all the bullshit you want about this game because it is not on your console of choice, but the fact is that it has been confirmed that there was no upgrade. Your efforts to slight the game with your burner n4g account that is all of 11 hours old is pretty damn obvious and pathetic.

GottaBjimmyb2732d ago

@carl Fair enough, you are correct, that many of the perceived "downgrades" are not specifically downgrades in reference to compute. (Though I would imagine some of the changes did reduce load)

I guess more specifically, I am saying it looks less realistic, though that may be intended, or even preferred considering the comic book direction of the universe and writing. Still looks amazing, and still a great game, just think it is ingenuine to say it looks more realistic, which is what the people claiming a downgrade are saying.

I certainly prefer the resolution bump and the more colorful representation, but that, in my opinion, has nothing to do with the fact that lighting and texture look less real, which is what most mean when they say downgrade, not specifically poly counts or other more general image quality metrics.

This is a great reminder of how game sales have become more concentrated in a smaller number of games/series over time. In the PS1/PS2 era a game was a success if it sold a million or a few million copies. The GTA games (3/Vice City/San Andreas) were pretty big outliers in selling as much as they did during the PS2 era. So in the minds of a lot of gamers something like FF VII feels like it was as big of a PS1 game as God of War 2018 was for PS4, but in reality far fewer people bought it (though it has obviously reached additional people through remasters, etc.).

StoneTitan170d ago

this was alwalys the case and will always be the case. with everything

170d ago
Zerobalance170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

What this says to me is, not many people are buying a PS to play PS exclusives. Like so many false narratives, like Xbox gamers don't buy games! It seems Playstation as a default system is a vanilla system to play call of duty, Minecraft, GTA games and a sports games.

badz149170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

if you look back into the PS history, it has always been the 3rd parties who sells the most games. it was just that the PS1 and PS2 were so dominant that many of those 3rd party games were exclusives. so, back during the PS1 and PS2 days, the strategy was "to sell as many consoles as possible in order to sell more 1st party exclusives" to ride on that wave. The strategy to push many 1st party exclusives to sell consoles only started with the PS3 when many of those prior 3rd party exclusives went multiplat but more accurately, it started with the PSP.

Sony saw with the PSP, which was being trounced in sales by the DS, that 3rd party exclusives are hard to come by if you're not dominating the market. So they started building more 1st party games and when the PS3 were facing difficulties in sales, they knew they had to rely on their own to differentiate the PS3 from the 360. So the strategy back then changed to "release more 1st party exclusives in order to sell more consoles".

the only manufacturer that is still consistently selling their hardware to play 1st party exclusives, is Nintendo, and that was because they gave up the armrace for power thus they can't rely on 3rd parties anymore as all multiplats play better on competing consoles. AND that's also why they are the most ominous in going after emulators and also patent trolling!

so, you're not wrong there, but not an "aha!" moment or anything. it has been this way since the last, at least, 15 years for Playstation.

170d ago
Deathdeliverer170d ago

@zerobalance

So... what this tells you is that Call of duty, being the absolute check writer that it is, has been outsold by Last of us, God of war, 2 Spider man games..... Saying Playstation exclusives doesn't sell is like saying call of duty doesn't sell because they have outsold some of iterations. Does that make sense to you?
