Diablo III devs - Switch is "the next evolution"

GameSpot recently spoke with Diablo III Eternal Collection producer Pete Stilwell and associate producer Matt Cederquist about all things Switch. The two discussed how the system’s various features make it “the next evolution”, Diablo III’s tech specs on the platform, scrapped touch controls, and more.

Would have said the same if I was about to release a game on that platform :p

Thunder_G0d_Bane2795d ago

Don’t care for a Diablo port but atleast this means the devs have a taste of switch development so we should see Overwatch next.

Can’t wait for Diablo 4 tho on my pc.

GameBoyColor2795d ago

They should defiantly go for Heroes of the storm first. It'll do well on Switch and help pad out the f2p games.

Thunder_G0d_Bane2795d ago (Edited 2795d ago )

I actually think that too. I think Heroes would perform better on switch than on pc cause I’d definitely play it on my switch.

Sirk7x2795d ago

Hearthstone may be more likely before Overwatch. Could just basically use the mobile version.

bluefox7552795d ago

Same, I got a lot of mileage out of D3, but I'm more than ready for a new one.

Relientk772795d ago

Same this port means nothing to me. I've been waiting for years for Diablo 4. The wait is killing me

Sirk7x2794d ago

Remember the wait between 2 and 3? lol

I agree for the main reason that I can play a beautiful loot based rpg on the train, at an airport, waiting for my wife to finish her show or on a TV with friends as usual. As a switch sceptic I've finally come around to the portability being so appealing.

Davidgr22795d ago

Evolution? Despite downgrading the graphic’s quality the Switch can’t even hit 1080p. Even docked Diablo 3 on Switch is the worst version and at the worst price of $60. It’s pretty much paying more for less...

ILostMyMind2795d ago

Some guys act like playing on a portable is the best thing in the world. As if they'd never seen it before.

Zikax2795d ago

Playing console games in portable is the best thing in the world.

SurgicalMenace2795d ago

Hell both the 3DS & the Vita are more capable options to the Switch. I cannot grasp it. I bought one and it sits. I'm looking at Diablo right now for PS3 and it's in bargain bins. Portability doesn't change that it's old as hell, companies don't even have faith enough to put NEW titles on this system. Nintendo fans are like, "This is so cool that we get to finally play so many old games on a Nintendo system!! Yes, companies are seeing that with our blind hive minds, we are willing to pay full price for their downgraded old games and its portable. Smh

King_Noctis2795d ago (Edited 2795d ago )

“Some guys act like playing on a portable is the best thing in the world. As if they'd never seen it before.”

We have seen it many time before already. Switch owners had never claimed that the Switch is the first portable (or hybrid) machine ever made. That would be a very ridiculous and ignorant way to look at things. We just happy that we can finally play this classic game on the go.

Neonridr2795d ago

right.. the Vita is a more capable option.. with all those games being released on it... *crickets*

ShinRon2795d ago

lol basement neckbeards cant grasp why portable console gaming is the shit.

Cmv382795d ago

I'm not a fan of portable gaming.

SurgicalMenace2795d ago

Yeah I've got well over 200 games for my Vita, and a whopping 6 for my Switch. Smh Furthermore, why don't you take the time to count just how many Vita games there are on the Switch. Sorry I already own them, no need to purchase them again.

SurgicalMenace2795d ago

Yeah NEW console games, but I forget this is the same generation of sheep that have been purchasing Skyrim since 2011. Smh

@Zikax

Actually, playing on an OLED 60" tv, with proper sound, a proper controller, on a comfortable couch with no distractions so I can immerse myself in the game and truly appreciate the hard work of talented dev teams.... is the best thing in the world.

But, you know, have fun trying to beat the first dark souls boss on the bumpy bus while a baby screams in your ear.

Diablo is yet another lazy release, and all these thirsty, blind Switch fans continue to justify this crap. Omg!! We get to play another last gen port!! How is this even okay? It's like starving kids chomping at the bit to ingest anything put in front of them. While they celebrate getting rerealeases and subpar ports, do they even realise that all the games with the most anticipation are not coming to Switch? Anthem, Spiderman, Red Dead, etc are evolutionary, not playing 6 year old games. I will let my Switch starve before I spend a dime on games I've already played. I don't allow my PS4 or my Xbox get away with it, so no chance for the Switch. I just cannot wrap my head around all the blind enthusiasm for this system. Is there any form of critical thinking present anymore?

Neonridr2795d ago

right.. like PS4/XB1 owners don't have a ton of re-releases on their systems, LOL

SurgicalMenace2795d ago

Hey Neon, yes the X1/PS4 get rereleases as an option not a lifeline. They get all the cutting edge games with robust online options. They are really announcing rereleases like they're NEW for the Switch. Most of us are like, "I already played and beat that." or "Why are they charging so much for old games, whatever I'll just get it for my PS4/X1/PC." Anybody regurgitating that whole "we get all the DLC" nonsense are only repeating their televised sheep script from Nintendo, to disguise that they're laughing all the way to the bank. My ongoing question is, if the Switch is so amazing, why aren't any of the BIG companies using their expansive budgets on developing anything for it Exclusively? Makes one scratch his head. Why is the most anticipated game of the year for it, yet another rerelease?!?! The DLC though. Smh

ShinRon2795d ago

hypes up anthem and spiderman as evolutionary titles while calling out ppl for blind enthusiasm lol wow gj

those titles are unreleased and have shown nothing that other titles havent done before

CaptainObvious8782794d ago

I completely agree, surgical.

Such a well constructed comment that's self evident yet so many disagrees. It's baffling.

King_Noctis2795d ago (Edited 2795d ago )

Except you can play it on the go with all the dlc included minus the pesky auction house.

I don’t know why people that don’t own the Switch (and would never own one) would bother that much with what game get released on the Switch. Can anyone tell me why?

SurgicalMenace2795d ago

I own a Switch, I just don't play it. I have other portables that have better options to play, so I will not be forced to play what I've already experienced.

Neonridr2795d ago

Didn't the XB1 version run at 900p at launch?

again, enjoy playing your PS4/XB1 tethered to your TV.

wonderfulmonkeyman2795d ago

The Switch doesn't hit 1080p in all games, but that doesn't mean it can't.
Playing in slightly less than 1080p isn't a deal-breaker for anyone other than graphics-nutcases.
And if the graphics are the main reason for complaint here, then the only ones who should be sticking their noses out should be the PC crowd.
Other than that, this is far from being "the worst version".
You're only trying to make it out to be dog shit because you dislike the system.
Stop that.
It's stupid.

2794d ago
CaptainObvious8782794d ago

I thought you were lying when you said it was $60. I can't even...

Full price for a 6 year old game, with worse graphics and performance. Do nintendo fans have any dignity? Any at all?

Father__Merrin2795d ago

It's good for a portable but most would prefer to play on a full TV setup.

Neonridr2795d ago

and the Switch gives you the option to do both.. so I fail to see the problem here.

I am looking for Luigi Mansion 3 and DK Tropical for $29 or less for the Switch.

2pacalypsenow2334d ago

You’ll have to wait 5 years for that.

OG_TK_Cole2334d ago

LMAOOOOOO @2PACALYPSENOW

hiawa232334d ago

Gamefly has it for $44-5=discount = $39 for Luigi, $35 for Donkey Kong. What happened to the Target BEST Buy Black Friday retail deals as I did not see either of these games in the $29 Q at any retail stores.

Muzikguy2334d ago

I was disappointed in what stores were offering for movies as well. They didn't match the flyers at all with selection

racer222334d ago

Crash bandicoot n.sane trilogy is the only game at 19.99. Though Zelda BOTW is pretty Nice priced at 29.99

Xaevi2334d ago

All these years old games should be 30 by default by now, and BoTW should've had a GOTY edition by now too. I'm speaking specifically ninty games

2334d ago Replies(1)
jaymacx2334d ago

The thing is they hold value even if you try to sell your copy , you could get $20 for BOTW. Pokémon games for GBA and DS still hold decent value.

Teflon022334d ago

resellers still sell BotW for like $40+, it's not beneficial imo. A game that sold over 10 million copies shouldn't hold a value when it's still active 3 years down the line. It can build a value back in the future. But as of now. It should be dirt cheap

Ripsta7th2334d ago

you build quality games, no need to worry about price going down

Shiken2334d ago

They are still selling as good, better in some cases, than other games that are cheaper on all consoles. Why would they drop the price when they still sell?

Price goes down with sales curve. If there is no curve, the price stays up. Nintendo sells evergreen titles that continue to sell overtime while others have their sales front loaded. That is the real reason it takes so long for prices to drop on Nintendo games.
