Lol... I think, back when I first started gaming on Sony consoles, my very young mind thought "Oh hey, they are using basic shapes. Nifty."

To be unique, and set their brand apart from the others. I believe that was the original intent. These buttons have become iconic now, and they're pretty damn cool.

I always though the shapes represented numbers, circle is one line X is two lines, triangle three lines and square is four lines.

Why does it even matter? Instead of numbers or letters they went with shapes. So what?

Because A, B, X, Y were taken. Can't have copyright infringement. assuming that's copy written. Ok so probably not... But I believe even MS swaps their X and Y in comparison to Nintendo. Interesting video though.

Would have guessed it was a Japanese company wanting international adoption, but no. It was:
"I gave each symbol a meaning and a color. The triangle refers to viewpoint; I had it represent one’s head or direction and made it green. Square refers to a piece of paper; I had it represent menus or documents and made it pink. The circle and X represent ‘yes’ or ‘no’ decision-making and I made them red and blue respectively."

The shapes are universally recognised but different languages have different alphabets.

Or it could just be to stand out from other brands that use letters

I have wanted them to drop the stupid symbols and switch to letters since I first bought my PS1.

It's always bugged me.

X is cross/cancel in Japan. So think of Xbox means Cancelbox or Crossbox. Shapes were different than SEGA and Nintendo's use of letters. It's unique and easy to identify.

For originality.

It was probably for kids at the time then it became a Sony staple.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

yep. they confirmed early that the crude humor the games are famous for is leaving to be more inclusive for the woke. and the rumors about the new online could make or break them.

$100 game incoming, or the most likely scenario is they will just follow Nintendo going for $80 for the base game

Can't believe anyone thinks it'll be over 70. They want as many people on it as they can to sell shark cards. The only way that happens is if they have a $100 deluxe edition with 3 days early access. Which would probably be smart for them because it'd fly off the shelves
