Why I've Stopped Playing Octopath Traveler

Rich at GameSpew: I wanted to like Octopath Traveler. I really did. But after 20 or so hours, I just couldn't bring myself to play it any more.

“Why I've Stopped Playing Octopath Traveler“

I also quit playing. It’s a beautiful game and the combat system is one of the best but some of the character stories such as Haanit was awful. The difficulty increase in the later chapter is crazy. You have to grind for a long time to even have a chance.

“With Olberic at around level 5 after completing the first chapter of his story, I was shocked to see that the second chapter came with a level recommendation in the twenties.”

I also thought that was crazy. They really want you to grind that’s for sure.

DJK nailed it. There are people online who have reported putting in 35-40 hours before even getting to their first Chapter 2. That's how you're supposed to play the game....like a JRPG. You have to grind like hell to avoid difficulty walls later. That's not a problem with the game friend.

I've played a lot of RPGs, Western and Japanese. And never had to grind this much just to progress through the story. Grinding in rpgs is mostly optional if you want to power level or get the best gear in the game. Not to just to progress. Most of the best JRPGs don't even have you grind at all.

and thus this game isn't for everyone.

RPGs can test ones patience...

PhantomS422839d ago

They really do. I use to eat JRPGs like this for dozens upon dozens of hours without even a second thought. Now as an adult I find it a lot more difficult to really push through. I'll always love Jrpgs though. Loving this game, just picked up my 3rd character and on my way to the 4th.

Agreed. Some RPG grinding though can be annoying when it is too repetitive. Oh well, game on man!

Why do people act like every game is for everyone ? Every single game has people that like it or hate it even crappy games. We don’t need an article for every person that doesn’t like a game . Also sounds like you didn’t take the right path by trying out all the characters or most of them at least before trying to go to deeper into the game .

I'm gonna write an article titles "Why I, among with many others, truly don't care why you stopped playing a damn videogame". Will probably get more clicks.
