PUBG is finally getting custom matches, but, unfortunately, you'll have to pay for them. The game's creator explains why.

I am so glad Fortnite and other games are stealing this companies spotlight and users.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ2872d ago

I'm so confused by this? You are essentially renting a dedicated server... just like any other rentable dedicated server service like Battlefield, ARK, Conan, etc. You have to pay by the month to rent them. I'm confused to why this is an issue? Lol

Lighter92872d ago

I'm confused by your first sentence. Are you asking us if you're confused or telling us?

UCForce2872d ago

Are you defending this arrogant developers ? They trying to sue Epic which was a backfire on their face.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ2872d ago (Edited 2872d ago )

Im confused by the back lash when other devs offer this and don't get backlash for it? "Im confused why this is an issue"

vallencer2872d ago

I'd say it's in large part due to the fact that they have micro transactions in their game. Ark and Conan do not. While yes Battlefield does you can also just earn them through playing. I think his excuse is crap personally. I logged on the other day to play for the first time in months and bought a crate with bp to only find out that I then needed to BUY a key to open said crate. Then on top of that add the event pass they charge for and you have other ways to make money. I won't be playing that game anymore period. He talks about having to pay for servers for ARMA 3 but that game doesn't have any other revenue outside of buying the game and it's expansions so it makes total sense. He is slowly destroying pubg. I'm not a fan of fortnite but they are doing it the smart way so kudos to them!

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ2872d ago

Ohhhhh ok, I play on X, so no MT for us, or keys to open crates, you just use your BP to buy and open them. I did not realize you had to buy Keys to open crates... that is stupid af.

This is EXACTLY why I have never played PUBG, and never will. The guy behind it just rubbed me the wrong way from the start. Seems my initial instinct was a good one. Straight up money hungry, always wanting to squeeze some more out of consumers.

MasterCornholio2873d ago

No one should ever charge for custom matches.

UCForce2872d ago (Edited 2872d ago )

Well, PUGB devs just shot in their foot.

Most games with dedicated servers who offer "Changes" over vanilla charge you for that server... lol

I had to go read the article to see his reasons for this.

An early access game, that's made over a billion dollars in less than a year, and has had a relatively low amount of that placed back into the development of the game, needs more revenue in order to add in a game customization that is practically expected from most MP games nowadays.

Sure, I get that he shouldn't have had any expectation of ARMA providing his servers for his mod, but we aren't talking about mods to PUBG, we're talking about a group of settings so people can customize their currently provided content matches.

"“For me it is about building a platform for game modes,” he says. “That’s what custom mode is there to do - it’s like modding lite. We really want to give and empower the players to create new modes, as well providing our own presets for people to experiment with.”

This dev is really full of himself. Even for someone like me who doesn't play many MP games can list a ton of MP games that offer this ability. This isn't a modding lite. It's changing the parameters of an individual match. Something that's been done in custom lobbies since Unreal tournament, since Team fortress, since god knows what else that came before all those.

He's not providing a mod tool. Even if he were, he's essentially charging for something that even ARMA...his chosen "engine", would never think of doing, because modding is encouraged, not charged for.

MasterCornholio2871d ago

He’s basically charging people who want to create pistol only matches and similar things. No developer should charge you for doing that.

rainslacker2870d ago

Yep, and that's not modding lite. That's just pretty standard lobby match customization in practically every MP game which allows custom lobby matches.

Finch2872d ago

Well number one you will no longer ever be again

Killa782872d ago

I've generally found pc gamers to be quite active when it comes to anti consumer practices.

Not sure why they give these guys a free ride...

On second thought, I don't know who is who in your post. So I'm basically deleting my reply. It assumed rather too much.
