Come on, Vista isn't that broken. I mean it's buggy and it's a RAM hog but other than that, it runs fantastically. Just turn off most of the actual optional glam stuff and it runs like a dream. Everyone hates Vista cause apparently it's cool to hate Vista, Microsoft, Microsoft related products and it's cool to praise all of Microsoft's opponents.

Inferior? Not everybody is a PC nerd who needs to have a Core 2 Extreme running a ridiculous amount of processes.

You know good design, an unmatched user experience, and simplicity does have worth, and its apparent by how much Apple has been growing lately. The majority of consumers aren't spec whores.

A majority of users are price whores. Thus they will buy a PC for $500 rather than the Apple equivalent that is $1500. That is unless they want to overpay so people think they are cool b/c of the Apple on the back of their computer.

Yeah, Apple has grown, but it still doesn't even hold a candle to the PC user base.

Why does it always have to be about "inventing" or who did it first? They invented the market, they made them successful, and they created the industry standard, which is much harder to do. Do you remember how MP3 players were before the iPod? They were a joke. Thats what Apple does, they enter a market and do it right, better than anything else in the market, and then create the standards for the competition.

Dream on. Microsoft just isn't a good OS Developer anymore.

windows 3.1 was a buggy piece of crap, 95 was legendary for its crashes and it took them like 5 years and TWO releases to get windows 98 running halfway decent.

Compare that to the rock solid performance of Apple or even Linux and you have to ask WERE THEY EVER A GOOD OS DEVELOPER?

There are plenty good things about MAC and Linux and unlike Windows they seem to constantly improve with innovative and handy features, not to mention the openess of linux which allows you to make it work pretty much in the way you want it to work.

Microsoft however is constantly underwhelming which is a bit odd when you think its a multimilion company whith more than enough money to smash the competitors.

I am pretty much fed up with windows, and pretty much want Apple to increase their share on OS market. I am not apple fanboy, I dont own any of their products, but I just want some company to come and but some sense to microsoft and their strategy with windows. Maybe when Windows would only own 50% of the OS market the developers would actualy support other platfroms and ppl would get more choises on what kind of operating system they want to use.

Nowdays the other OS:ses may be superrior in many ways to windows, but ppl dont even want to try them because not many 3rd party software/hardware devs support em. Without game/software/hardware support, windows would be just as or more "horrible" OS than Os x or Linux.

Theres no single good monopoly, just look at the consoles how much Sony and Microsoft are constantly improving their services with neat features and Nice exclusives plus price drops.

I dream of the day when Operating systems will have the same kind of competition.

I have UnBuntu and XP dual booted on my Laptop. And I still prefer XP over Tiger(or whatever the hell it's called now) and Linux. I can't understand why people b***h and moan over Windows. Vista isn't as terrible as people make it seem, though it's not better than XP. All it tkaes is a little time and routine maintenance and it runs fine. Why the complaints?

The main problem with Vista is that it doesnt run with todays standards. People want operating system that is light, fast, looks good, customizeable and safe.
But comparing to linux and Mac or even XP. Vista is a joke in these categories.

Now I am in odd position where my older PC seems better than my newer one (around 7 years old AMD athlon 1600mhz 700mb ram with Gforce 440 mx.) Has Ubuntu installed, and the computer works faster, looks better, and doesnt even need a damn virus protection because of the way the OS has been build.

Microsoft should stop improving around the old "windows" core and recreate the damn thing to more modern and better. They have the money, they have the time so wth is the problem?

I am no way saying that ppl should start using linux or mac, just saying that theres many things microsoft should improve, preferably in near future.
XP was great OS but there are things with Vista that where things have gone horibly wrong.

That is if you are using 32-bit software on a 64-bit operating system.
32-bit running in 64-bit mode seems to be inefficient.

almost 99% of what is sold now and have been for the past 2 years is 64 bit hardware which can operate 32 software.

You do realize that Mac sales have been surging like crazy for a couple of years now right? Most computer manufacture's have been showing stagnant growth while Apple just posted a 30% increse in sales for Q3 year-over-year. 10% of all PC's sold in NA last quarter were Macs - don't think Microsoft hasn't noticed/doesn't.

Like it or not, the Mac vs. PC ad campaign has been very successful - that's why it's still running.

Android is a mobile OS. I won't be surprised if Google does release an OS in the next few years.

Google can make another flavor of Linux to compete with MS OS. Distribute it for free without all the bloated codes. Linus is not as mainstream as MS OS but it is a stable OS and it is free.

Anyway.. this is just ANOTHER problem for MS, because it means MORE money has to be funneled into advertisement that has sole purpose to fight Apple.

This is both interesting and ugly as it shows the dark side of human competition and business itself.

If the Xbox 360 is any indication, Microsoft's customers will buy whatever Microsoft tells them to buy despite obvious flaws. I think Apple made the right choice by pointing out Window's (and Microsoft's) glaring issues.

They have 15% of the market, and are experiencing incredible growth. Why? They only put out high-quality products, and consumers demand that quality.

Windows dominates 85% of the PC market, and almost every Windows user has some gripe with that OS, especially Vista users. Apple isn’t deceiving PC users, so much as pushing their buttons. These are valid complaints that have been voiced for the past decade, and Apple is honestly showing us that if we use Macs and/or Mac OSX, we will never have to experience those problems ever again.

If you have the right specs, you don’t even need to buy a Mac computer to have a ‘Mac’. Simply install Mac OSX and you’re good to go.

"talking about their benefits" is how the 'mac' ad campaign started way back when, and most of their ads do tout there so called benefits. They aren't saying people are too stupid for macs either. It is just competition. But it is hard to resist using the Vista's so-called problems (whether they exist or not) in their ads since it has been a big deal in the media anyway.

I'd rather see Apple buy off MS. MS is super fail nowadays. Vista blows and their Zune is no where near the iPod. Apple would then take Windows and combine it with OS X and it'll be run on most of the computers in the world - problem free.

I'd love to see what Apple could do with 360 also.

Oh dont let the Mac educated people hear you saying that! I agree with you though and it really gets on my nerves how arrogant and pretentious Apple users can be! Trouble is they are so full of their own virtues they cant see past it all! Im with you and would prefer to save myself some money and have a PC and hey I get a stable great OS for free in Linux so it dual boots with Windows.

To top it off, everyone that lives in my area with a mac think they're better than people who use pc's, my girlfriend included. It is pretty fun though when you put in crysis in your comp only to watch them jealous that their overpriced fashion statement can't play it.

Don't get me wrong, I like the mac os but the prices and especially upgrades have always kept me away from actually purchasing one. The argument of it being more stable is moot, if your on a gaming forum and you can't properly take care of your pc then you might wanna check some other websites out!

Everyone knows you can build an identical-spec, but lower quality PC for a lot less than a Mac. The future of Mac though isn't the hardware made by Apple, it's the Operating System which is now compatible with Intel CPUs.

Apple-certified PCs running Mac OS aren't too far off...
