Despite Sony not spending much time on VR during the conference there are some exciting games here. Hope they keep the ball rolling

UCForce2903d ago

Yeah, their support VR is great.

fr0sty2903d ago

Wasn't this fad supposed to have died by now, like PS Move games did? I keep seeing this increasing flow of great games, my wallet keeps shedding tears as I buy them up (My VR library tops 20 games now, with 6 more in my shopping cart right now)... I can't seem to find this impending doom on the VR market. My 3D TV is collecting dust, though.

Knushwood Butt2903d ago

Good stuff.

While not announced at E3, I'm also looking forward to Zone of the Enders.

crazyCoconuts2903d ago

Have you played the demo? From the looks of it id guess it's not Pro enhanced yet.

Knushwood Butt2902d ago

No, I kind of forgot it was available. Only got psvr last week and still have yet to play all the compatible games I have. RIGS is the last one to try.

Anyway, sounds like you are unimpressed :(

Team_Litt2903d ago

Where are the first party games at? Vita syndrome starting to kick in.

ApocalypseShadow2903d ago (Edited 2903d ago )

You mean like Dreams,Astro Bot and Blood and Truth announced among 14 other games? Not counting upcoming games like ace combat 7,sairento,starchild,Zoe 2 mars, megalith, torn, etc After just realising an update to Wipeout.

With over 150 games already that play better and are more immersive than any Wii or kinect game.

It's doing fine on the constant announcement of games. I'm not expecting uncharted, gow,or last of us vr anyway. And I like the fact that it's not the same old madden, cod and assassin's creed games but original indie games that are fresh new IPs. Even from Sony it's new IPs listed above.

Team_Litt2903d ago (Edited 2903d ago )

Dreams can be played entirely without VR and that's the only game being made by a prolific Sony studio.
ASTRO Bot is being made by Asobi! Team who have given us such gems as The Playroom.
Bloodborne and Truth is being made by Sony London whose last few games have been 2 singstar games, The Playroom and Wonderbook.

ApocalypseShadow2903d ago (Edited 2903d ago )

Those are still Sony releases. Naming their past games doesn't change the fact that they are still Sony games.

If you're looking for multi million dollar developed games for a small user base, that's not going to happen. That's why smaller games are being made for a smaller base and majority of the prices on games are cheaper than $60.

If 20 million psvr headsets were out there, then of course big games would be made. Economics 101. It's a good class to take.

fr0sty2903d ago (Edited 2903d ago )

Wipeout can be played entirely without VR, but VR is by far the best way to play it, and it is worth buying just for VR. So, it counts, just like Dreams does. Sure, you can build worlds on a 2D screen, but being able to interact with them in motion tracked 3D is a different story and will make creating them far easier. Astro Bot is based on the playroom's most popular title, Robot Rescue, which fans have been literally begging Sony to make into a full game since PSVR launched (there have been multiple petitions). They finally got their wish, and the game is very likely to be just as fantastic as the level in the playroom was. It really showcased just how much VR can enhance a platformer.

DigitalRaptor2901d ago (Edited 2901d ago )

Must be hard making these jumps in logic to justify why you think something is on its way out.

- WipEout came out not long ago and Digital Foundry called it the best VR conversion yet.
- Sony has a studio they created 3 years ago dedicated to making VR games. Unannounced, but on its way.
- Déraciné is a first-party collaboration between the legendary FromSoftware and Japan Studio.
- Farpoint is a first-party game made by a non-Sony studio and speaks for itself - a sequel is more or less guaranteed given its success.
- Dreams is a VR game on day one with the potential of a VR game on day one.
- Blood & Truth is being made by London Studio because their London Heist demo was recognised as fantastic.
- Firewall Zero Hour is a first-party tactical FPS coming this year.

I adore how it HAS to be a game from a Sony studio to be considered investment. This has been discussed to death, but a peripheral in a fledgeling industry is not going to receive AAA support out the wazoo from any company who has invested in a VR headset. It's a gradual process, and PSVR is successful enough for Sony to continue investing, which they are.

I was hoping at this point all traditional first party games would have a VR mode. You see game mods in the PC world that do that to existing games so I was hoping it wouldn't be that high a bar. I guess it's a lot t harder than I thought because we rarely get a AAA game with a VR mode. that's my biggest disappointment. GT Sport not being fully VR enabled still stings.

ApocalypseShadow2903d ago (Edited 2903d ago )

Sony doesn't force their developers to make what the executives want them to make. They make what they feel is right at the time for the team. The results so far are blockbuster games.

Plus, most gamers complain that they don't want developers like naughty dog wasting time on vr games. They want AAA games. So that's their focus. And London Studios, North West studios and smaller teams Sony works with are concentrating on vr games.

It would be nice for big games to be there. But I'm not complaining when there are awesome vr games now. And so far, I have about 30 or so. For first Gen vr, psvr is doing fine. By the time PS5 comes out, there will be 300 to 400 games. That's a lot for a product considered an add on. I'll laugh my butt off if gamers say that's not enough games.

jukins2903d ago

Why do you keep moving the goalposts. Keep saying no 1st party when there is you say oh well they did singstar games.

Point is we've received plenty of vr games they may not be from sony but tons are exclusive what was shown at e3 has me excited. Beat saber and firefight alone has me randomly playing my backlog of vr games in excitement. Also cant wait for ace combat

ocelot072903d ago

"Why do you keep moving the goalposts. Keep saying no 1st party when there is you say oh well they did singstar games"

It's a typical troll thing to do. Say one thing gets proven wrong then moves the goalposts.

Einhander19712903d ago

Well said Apocalypse Shadow couldn’t agree more, someone who actually talks sense for change.

ApocalypseShadow2902d ago (Edited 2902d ago )

Thanks Einhander.

Love that game by the way. Lol. And some of the music. Too bad square will never update to resogun like remaster. Would be great.

yeahright22903d ago

Nice, great even, But how about next year you slap a 360 degree camera in the front row so I can watch E3, PSX , what have you in VR while sitting next to Shuhei, or shawn or somebody.

generic-user-name2903d ago

Firewall will be lit, but it was announced at psx not e3 2018

Good list but Thrill of the Fight 2 and Racket Club should be in this. TOFT 2 is one hell of a work out and even found myself watching boxing instructional videos in order to improve. Racket Club does an amazing job adapting tennis, badminton and pickleball into something that feels realistic but fits in with smaller VR spaces.

kevco3371d ago

Both of these are great games!

TOFT has already featured in 131XR's 'best' series: https://youtu.be/jExm8PbCVq...

its a fangame.

but nice either way

I don’t see this single level as a fan made but as a demo pitch from the studio to revive the franchise with a new game and to measure the want of PlayStation for a full game

Michiel1989171d ago

and they're gaging that by making a level in a dead game?

fr0sty171d ago

It's a great engine to quickly prototype and publicly test a game concept. Honestly, had they approached the business model differently, Dreams could have been very successful... They could have made their money from the creators, not just off game sales, if they'd made a system that lets you pay a fee to export your games/levels so that they are playable on any PlayStation even if you don't have Dreams installed. That would have opened up an additional revenue stream that would have made the game profitable. Charge an export fee, then take a cut of each sale for the games created... it gives financial incentive for developers to invest serious time into making games in that engine, which increases the quality of the projects made within it. Dreams was just ahead of its time.

Exthun172d ago

That's happening when you’ve got a great IP but no clue how to use it, while others are yelling at you to get to work on them.

Babadook7172d ago

Nice. This put a smile on my face. Good job to the Dreams developer.

Abnor_Mal171d ago

I always said that Dreams should have released on every PC/console capable of handling its graphical prowess, not like it was so much of a powerhouse anyways. It should have also had PSVR2 compatibility.

It’s a shame the game was put out to pastures so early in its life.

Babadook7171d ago

Yup. Should be on psvr2.

Miraak82 171d ago

It should have had kb/m support and no mp implementation was a mistake ..... I miss lbp , they should have just stuck with that franchise . If they didn't kill the servers it would still be installed on my ps , it was a game of endless fun

gaffyh172d ago

That's actually super impressive

Knightofelemia172d ago (Edited 172d ago )

Banjo Kazooie isn't the only franchise Microsoft is sitting on and doing nothing.

Miraak82 171d ago

Same can be said for Sony also , a couple years after the ps4 launched and after the success of TLoU they basically abandoned everything except for GoW, GT, R&C and MLB .. such a shame . Was never a XB or MS person but knowing all the franchises Sony will never touch again stings a lot

Such a shame media Molecule and sony didnt know what to do with this game. Now would be a perfect time to release it multiplat like helldivers 2. It needs a large community.
