While I respect them opening it to a free market and letting the consumer make a choice in their games, damn it's a rough time having to weed through 100 shit games just to find a decent one. Now it's going to be double that.

Curation that prevents broken games is a completely different sort of curation than the sort journalists were clamoring for (censorship of content and subject-matter irrespective of the game's quality).

How is giving you control of your own media consumption anarchy? Sounds to me those who complain about the responsibility being put in your hands were the ones trying to dictate what is right or wrong for everyone. Take the first of many losses because artistic freedom and consumption is here to stay. This is true democracy, freedom of choice not censorship.

As for the petty excuse of floodgates letting in mediocre games. That is not an issue when valve gives you the tools to see the games you prefer. For me 99% of indie games are bad so I don’t visit that section unless a particular games is spotlighted as good. I despise indie games and feel they bloat every platform. They should be regulated to a section away from major developer games. Microsoft lumps in indie games with major games all the time which is more a problem to me than anything else as I don’t want to see those games at all. But I deal with it. Just like those of you who want censorship need to deal with not having it.

Gaming habit responsibility is finally in our hands where it should be.

Yes, personal responsibility is the same thing as anarchy /s. When did gaming journalism, and journalists in general, turn into a bunch a puritans?

Glad that these comments agree with Valve's choice. We are adults, and as adults we are allowed to make our own choices! Otherwise we are nothing more than controlled and unfree.

Sadly these are the times we live in.

I'm glad Valve is pushing back and doing the opposite. I'm an adult, and even if there were to be any games I might personally dislike, I would never go crazy about it or want them to pull it. Those that do, have issues, and that's THEIR problem, which no amount of curating or censorship will ever fix. I don't need people holding my hand because others think they need theirs held. Games shouldn't be pulled because someone mentally ill (small or large) is effected by its existence.

We can choose for ourselves what we want to see/block, what we want to purchase, and that which we don't gains or loses on its merits.

It has been a form of private enterprise censorship (not the definition of regular censorship since it isn't coming from the gov't). Get companies to pull stuff because of outrage. Get banks to stop allowing loans for particular products (yeah, we want to give the banks more power... idiots).

The outraged individuals also never seem to figure it swings every way. There was a time people didn't want Playboy/Playgirl/Hustler, etc magazine on the shelves. The religious wings tried to stop it. In the end, all they had to do in some areas was put a brown paper bag over it and/or put it behind the counter.

Valve has age restriction checks, and they give you the ability to block certain stuff. If that's not enough for people, they are loony. You can't stop the world so you don't possibly see questionable stuff in life.

Valve doesn't have to react and bow down to anyone's twitter outrage agenda no matter what it is. It's a smart move for Valve, Devs, and gamers.

Some people are just pissed Valve took away the outrage power they never should of had in the first place, and are scared out of their wits it expands to take it away in other areas beyond gaming. That this is a model others will see and like a beacon of light, will shine through the outrage madness. Tough. That idiocy is the true toxicity. It's no surprise that the people screeching the loudest are the ones who've done nothing but bring toxicity (in their mind, the opposite). The gaming media, and the outraged internet personalities.

You don't want that outrage power around, because once that genie is truly out of the bottle (and make no mistake it probably is about 40-50 percent out right now), it will horribly damage and infringe on people of any interest, any persuasion, and any political belief.

Valve made the smart decision. If someone wants to only use a more curated and controlled gaming platform, let them segregate themselves and go to it. If a market truly exists for it, one will be created, and will profit for it (or they can go to niche ones). If not, they'll just have to make decisions for themselves instead of for everybody else. Everybody wins except the control freaks.

Right. There's a big difference between censorship and taking out the trash. Opening all doors and windows to your house will see it fill up with vermin and dirt in no time.
