Warframe’s Major Console UI Overhaul Isn’t Exactly Great… Yet

AusGamers. "With the first attempt to unify the UI across PC and Console, Warframe, things didn't go as well as hoped."

Pretty much my number one complaint for an others pretty cool game is the UI (at least for consoles). It's confusing, a mess and sometimes the text overlaps each other.

But the emphasis is how confusing it all is with it's layout. It's impossible to find anything and next to impossible to understand what you're buying or need to buy.

Especially if this is your first time playing the game

I have to disagree. This article is talking about the recent change in the UI to use a PC mouse-type cursor for selecting menu items, rather than just using the stick to switch between fields and selections. The D-pad can still be used to snap around in some cases, others require you to push the cursor around, which is more than a little annoying to console players who are used to the old way and have no need or desire to have a mouse cursor.

As for the menus and arrangement of the items in them, it's laid out pretty logically and only a couple things that don't fit perfectly into the categories that can be a pain to find. The Warframe store is not as easy to navigate as it was in the past, but there are no issues knowing what you need to buy as all blueprint recipes are clearly there and at the end of the day you don't "need" to buy anything. All you need it so obtain weapons, either by buying their blueprints in the store or by getting them as rewards for missions and the materials to craft them. Same with new Warframes. There is no manual for Warframe, like most other very large games today, they rely on a wiki to instruct people on the common "who, where, when and why?" questions. The rest is pure freedom of choice depending on your Mastery Rank. You decide what you want to work toward and then you grind it out. There is no hand holding or leading you around by the nose outside of the few quests that are in place and the tutorial opening missions clearing explain how all that works. In years past it was not easy to get into Warframe, but with the new opening missions and quest it's easy to jump in, but still difficult to master.

You can tell the new UI was designed by someone who doesn't actually play on consoles. Very poor effort from them.

nice to see this game finally made it. Hopefully it looks and runs smooth.

TGG_overlord70d ago

Very much so, and I sure hope so. I do recall that people pointed that out for System Shock as well (I think that problem has been solved now).

DivineHand12570d ago

I just downloaded it on my phone a few weeks ago and the framerate isn't bad if you set it to 60hz. I suspect the switch 2 version should fair better interms of performance.

TGG_overlord69d ago

From what I've seen so far, it runs pretty smoth on the Switch 2.

BISHOP-BRASIL70d ago

It's originally a game released in 2013, obviously a lot has been changed since, but still the base code for this game was in development before at least 2011, which means that thing was probably going to run on PS3 and XB360 with a few tweaks, Digital Extremes just chose to skip into next gen... Someone would have had to majorly fuck up for the Switch 2 not to run Warframe smoothly, a game with 15 year old mid power target specs! It's a very light and optimized game by now anyway, it famously runs well on relatively old notebooks with CPU integrated graphics... Hell, even the mobile version manages to not run like ass.

TGG_overlord69d ago

That is true, so there should be no problems like you said, unless someone has messed-up really badly.

Haven’t played this since it launched on ps4. Surprised it’s still even a thing.

DivineHand12570d ago

The game has received many quality of life updates since the PS4 days and receives content drops several times per year. The best part is that it is not pay to win.

It is a great way to unwind, but you will need to be active in the community to play this game. Most of the mechanics are explained by youtubers, forum posts and wiki pages.

TGG_overlord69d ago

Exactly. And nope, it was never a P2W title, and from what I understand, it will remain that way as well.

TGG_overlord69d ago

The updates and community keeps the game going.
