Microsoft outsold the ps3 last month,but the gap between the ps3 and 360 is smaller than expected;HOW do you have a 200 dollar console and fail to sell at least 200,000 more than a 400 dollar console????

It really is going to be something else if LBP manages to push ps3s,cause even if microsoft manages to outsell the ps3 this month,LBP could have pushed enough systems to make the gap shorter and shorter....

And with Halo 3 only managing to sell around 300,000 more xbox 360 consoles,will gears of war-a game that sold much less than halo 2 and halo 3-will it push that many 360s?

The sad realization for microsoft is their price advantage is wielding minimal results.

last year 360 had halo in sep. and had huge sales, but this year sales r not even half of last year, i think PS3 will outsell the 360 this year buy 4 million!!

Edit- And who's fault is that the PS3 is much more expensive than the competition? Also I thought people would be buying the PS3 even though its more expensive? Again spin it all you want people but Sony had 80% of the market last two generation and now is in third place. Of course the big winner in all of this is Nintendo but M$ has improved dramatically compared to last generation as well and of course Sony is doing crappy compared to last generation. Those are good sales numbers by the PS3 but very dissapointing for Sony.

ps3 doesnt need a price cut as it has software to boost its sales this Fall. It doesnt need a price cut to fight x360 but wii.
However there is NO TRUMP CARD left for MS after this as their Fall lineup isnt as strong as PS3's

X360 sales have also slowed after 3/4 weeks as the SPIKE has faded away. It is a bad news for MS no doubt.

To Spin something, is to take facts or data and turn them in a positive or negative light, doesn't nescesiraly make it right, just makes it sound better, I could easily say, oh the 360 has jumped for example 250% from last month, however it could still be getting outsold by competition.

But hey I don't really care which company outsells which, I have the consoles I want and I get to play the games this fall, and now about 500 thousand people can join me.

@showtime- You really think at times like this families are going to start buying Blu Ray movies and replacing their current DVD collections? You do know Blu Ray movies are still more expensive than regular DVDs and with families having trouble making their mortgage payments, putting gas in their cars, and food on the table you really expect them to buy a $30 blu ray movie when they can get it for $15 or even renting it for a $1 at redbox.. At times like this I would expect the MASS CONSUMERS holding off in buying a new format when there isn't much of a benefit for them to move up other than better picture quality. With the 360 they will be able to upconvert their regular DVDs and play next gen games for only $199.. Yes the PS3 can do that but its going to cost them an additional $200.. So you failed!

No one is trying to spin the Sony sales... the 360 stomped it in Sept, no doubt about it. But a lot of ppl thought the PS3 sales were going to drop in Sept, and they did not... they were actually a little bit higher.

The 360 sales does make up for all the months they were behind in the U.S. though... so they stole the momentum back from Sony. Sometimes price cuts only boost sales for a month or two... but I expect this one to ride clear through the holiday.

You're such a tool. Every new generation brings on new challenges. This gen is definately a lot different then last gen. The fact is, the PS3 is still selling well as is the 360. PS3 is still leading in sales here in the US this year over the 360. I hear bs all the time about it "not having any games", "it only being a blu-ray player", "blu-ray doesn't sell." If all that's true then why are people buying them? Sony did have the majority of the marketshare last gen but that didn't happen overnight. It takes time. I for one have enjoyed the competition between the two companies because that pushes both to one-up eachother which we can all benefit from. Also, i highly doubt Sony will be disappointed. They know they have plenty of first party studios that will be pumping out great new and old IP's. Exactly, why does everything have to be a spin? It's pure hard facts that the 360 has outsold the PS3 for the month of Sept. But it's also fact that the PS3 still sold surprisingly well during the month of the 360 price cut. Theoretically, shouldn't the PS3 sales drop to like 50k or 100k, and the 360 should fly into the 500k-600k zone? But it didn't.

This is truth that people don't care about the price of the console, if they want it, they want it. And I'm not even talking about the PS3 only. I'm referring more to the Wii. 687K and still $50 more expensive than the cheapest 360. Which makes me think, people will buy the Wii even if it started at $299.

So Sept is long gone and over, things will be more interesting to look at during the next few months with all the "AAA" games out and bundles.

I thought the 360 would have sold even more than that, but oh well. But can i ask a serious question? how is it that Sony is losing money if the PS3 probably costs them $400 or less to make and the PS2 still sells so well, and is yielding them probably close to a $100 bucks i bet.

Does any of this really effect you as a gamer? This holiday season will have more blockbuster games than any time in the history of gaming. Certainly any gamer will need a huge budget just to enjoy 1/4 of the games available. It's great to see all three consoles doing very well despite retail sales dropping nationally.

PS3 sold 400,000 when MGS4 launched. One game had a bigger affect on their sales then 360 cheapest console on the market. MGS4 is a niche game and does not appeal to a wide range of gamers... Can you say LBP?

When Halo3 came out last September the 360 sold 500k+units and every self proclaim PS3 fans said it wasn't going to see a spike because most everyone who wants Halo3 already had a 360.. Also your not going to see a big spike in sales for the PS3.. C'mon the game appeals to 7-13 year old kids and most MASS CONSUMER parents are not going to buy a $400 console just so that their kids can play that game! During hard economic times, people spend LESS on entertainment. Not "most of their money". They tend to reduce their *home* entertainment to a lesser degree than their non-home (theaters, concerts, eating-out, etc) -- but they actually reduce this spending *a great deal*.

Second, during hard times, no one has the money for "long term saving". They spend their money on durable goods and basic needs - think heating and food.

And, as for your ridiculous "a little thing called bluray" -- you must be fcukign nuts. People want *VALUE* and a new movie format, at $30 per movie isnt even on the RADAR.

Sony shifted 644k units in September. Very impressive, double that of MS but still only half that of Nintendo.

Most money in this industry is made in software. I'm glad we never have to worry about casual gaming taking over; As long as those people don't buy games we will always be safe. Only people making money off the Wii are Nintendo. All the major Devs will stick with Sony and MS.

The Wii also has games that look like vomit and aren't worth playing. Nintendo doesn't care about gamers anymore, they want your mom.
