Wow I literally just posted that my biggest fear is that it doesn't do enough new things to warrant a sequel minus co-op and here comes Eurogamer saying the same thing.

When you send some gameplay videos to your mate and aren't sure whether its gameplay for the first game or the second one then alarm bells start ringing.

"At its core this is very much the same game, with only a small sprinkling of original additions to distinguish it from those that came before."

That's simply not good enough. Well I have XGP so I wont be shelling out for it but that's not what I want in a sequel.

Nu2817d ago

Just think of it as the definitive SoD experience. Better framerate gameplay and better graphics. You could say it's the online edition.

its_JEFF2817d ago

I think this is the game they wanted that first release to be. This is them being able to deliver on what they originally had planned for that first game.

jwillj2k42817d ago

Sure, is it only 15-20 bucks then?

2817d ago
Seafort2817d ago

@cigi No it's not it's $30.

darthv722817d ago

Well i don't know about anyone else but I enjoyed the first game. If this is more of the same then I don't see a reason I won't enjoy it as well. If it improves on the first then it is doing what a sequel is supposed to do.

Every sequel I play halo, uncharted, Mario , Zelda etc alll of them reminds me of the sequel they all similar too me

TheCommentator2817d ago

Exactly. Besides, coop and minor additions, plus the graphics improvements made to it make SoD2 worth the $30) because the first game was already awesome.

People who've played the first game will understand what I'm saying.

Damm. . .I feel the guys who only own an Xbox if this turns out to be underwhelming. .luckily you septic own all consoles but ms are punching well below their weight and need a hit. This reminds me crackdown 2 that was originally announced as DLC but ms upgraded it's status to full price. . .Same assets same map. . Got away with it. Why can't they get their ish together. They're not rookies.

KillBill2816d ago

@The Wood - don't feel for me. I likely have more games and am playing more games than the vast majority of you guys that are claiming I have nothing to play. Get over yourselves already.

The Wood2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

Who said you have nothing to play. . Maybe tell some of the Xbox guys who want more instead of me like the first commenter. Trust me, the apologists fuel ALL companies sub par ways. Some people just want more or different things from them than you do bro. Don't get overly sensitive about it.. . I do have friends who prefer other consoles even ones on this site. . and guess what, some of the Xbox ones are a little disappointed with this gens output.. ..is it such a vicious thing to say they can and should do better ?

Jinger2817d ago

I'll repost this here as well I guess since we are repeating comments.

"Isn't a sequel suppose to take it's original game and expand upon it? Make things smoother, better graphics, bigger areas, have more things to do etc. etc. State of Decay 2 checks all of those boxes..."

The Wood2817d ago

That sounds like an expansion pack or DLC. . .. it's definitely too early to make a solid judgement so let's wait and see

Jinger2817d ago

@The Wood

Since when has DLC ever really added 2 extra maps the same size as the original map, put in over double the amount of AI personalities, updated the graphics exponentially, added an entire online system for Co-op etc?

DJStotty2817d ago

Never played the original so I'm good with getting this

Christopher2817d ago

This saddens me a little, even though I know I will still be picking this up and playing it.

No Way2817d ago

....... most game sequels are just a bit more added to it, with a slightly different story. Maybe some new characters. People like the game as it was (albeit some improvements needed, such as framrate), why would the second not be??

Dragonknight662816d ago

This is exactly why Sony has sold twice the amount of PS4 consoles as opposed to Xbox One consoles,”Exclusives”.

XbladeTeddy2817d ago

It's still going to be a good experience. I'm just glad to have this game back again. Yeah MS clearly need to put more effort into their games considering how good Sony is doing but this game is still going to be worth it.

TheSaint2816d ago

It only seems worth it because of the lack of decent exclusives on Xbox. It's like giving a starving man food that's been trodden on and he thinks it's the best thing ever.

antz11042817d ago

Lol based on one person's view. Ok.

Italiano12345672817d ago (Edited 2817d ago )

Gamespot is saying all the same stuff

rokkbrin2816d ago

I wonder if you all will feel the same when the negativity starts for Detroit.

AmUnRa2817d ago

For what, telling the true. It must hurt you, but it is what it is. Its not only Eurogamer,
Gamespot is saying almost the same thing. So you say screw Gamespot to?

letsa_go2817d ago

How dare they give the wrong opinion!!

Profchaos2816d ago

Eurogamer is probably one of the few sites I actually trust these days

Dragonknight662816d ago

I just read the Gamespot article and they said the same thing

corroios2817d ago

In other words a dlc and not a full fledge new game, but i think this cost 39?

InMyOpinion2817d ago ShowReplies(1)
Jinger2817d ago

$29.99

But it is a full fledged game. It has 3 maps and each one is bigger than the first games map. Has more locations, different building aspects, more than double the AI personalities, better graphics, Co-op etc.

It's easily a sequel

Goldby2817d ago

It's 40$ in Canada that might. E why he put 39.99 as the price

mkis0072817d ago

Just seems like they could have done much more to really hit a grand slam...just seems like an incrimental increase.

DarkVoyager2817d ago (Edited 2817d ago )

@Jinger

“But it is a full fledged game. It has 3 maps and each one is bigger than the first games map. Has more locations, different building aspects, more than double the AI personalities, better graphics, Co-op etc.”

“It's easily a sequel“

You been defending this game left and right.

According to most previews the game is plagued with bugs, bad lag during co-op, and big frame rate drops on Xbox One X.

The graphics are subpar and the animations are stiff. You can’t even split up because the game pulls you back into a team and only the host can choose the missions.

This game sounds like crap all around.

mark_parch2816d ago

you think this game is basically dlc lol. what the hell is wrong with you people, it's 3 times bigger than the first game built from the ground up with a new engine, has online co-op, much more in depth base building and rpg elements and most of all it doesn't run like shit. on top of all that don't forget this is still a very small development team and only their second game. the problem is that to much pressure has been put on this game due to the lack of other good games on xbox. it's £25 and after enjoying the first game I think it looks amazing, my only gripe is that you have to stay close in multiplayer and can't venture to opposite sides of the map, hopefully if this isn't a technical limit they can change this before release

-Foxtrot2817d ago

All I'm really worried about is if I still have to look after my survivors in the sense where I keep being called to tell me someone is upset, angry, frustrated or something which means me abandoning roaming the map scavenging and having to do silly little side mission with them.

I just want to leave them to it and explore in peace.

Jinger2817d ago

You can leave them to it, sure, but be prepared to deal with the repercussions of not managing your base. The game is all about creating a community and you're the leader. If one of your people is messing up, you need to deal with it before something bad happens. You can always take them out back and shoot them as well. Up to you.

zeuanimals2817d ago

That sucks. Why is the player character always the leader? I'd rather play a character more like Darrel than Rick.

TheCommentator2817d ago (Edited 2817d ago )

Yeah, they could be a pain in the ass at times...

Christopher2817d ago

It's still heavy on the people micromanaging...

I've accepted this just as a status quo for the game series. Like issues in other games, I can accept this minor issue and move on or let it run the game for me. I try the former.

-Foxtrot2817d ago (Edited 2817d ago )

I don’t mind micro managing to be honest it’s just when you’ve literally dealt with someone in the first game and get back to where you left off in the world then BAM “hey it seems Sam needs to blow off some steam want to check in on him”

Cut that crap out and we’re good but managing guns, beds, food, overall happiness...that’s fine

conanlifts2816d ago

If someone whines too much I say take them out on a hunt and let them die. Its the end of the world, no time for hand holding

mark_parch2816d ago

the developers have said when things like that happen you have plenty of time to sort it out if you want, you won't have to run back to base straight away or every 5 minutes
