Valve buying a studio is unexpected and interesting at the same time. I wonder if we would ever see any Steam exclusive content, despite the fact that I've heard that Gabe doesn't believe in exclusive content. However, there wouldn't be much of a point to buying a studio, if said studio would be releasing content on Steam anyway.

ILostMyMind2965d ago

They have more to gain by creating content for all platforms, rather than exclusives to Steam. By the way, Microsoft should go the same way.

Valve hasn't released a single game, produced or published, this entire gen. Neither has Blizzard. IDK Valve would even bother. All their best game designers have left over the last 5 years. Maybe Gabe's been snorting coke over at Notch's mansion who knows......

Valve supported most of their games with DOTA 2 being the last one they published in 2013.

Blizzard:
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft 2014
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls 2014
World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor 2014
Heroes of the Storm 2015
StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void 2015
Overwatch 2016
World of Warcraft: Legion 2016
StarCraft: Remastered 2017
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth 2018

the good news? Valve announced they are back into making games again.

So we will see a second Firewatch, but never a third...

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing35d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9235d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit35d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing35d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9235d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
