I couldn't help myself, yea its a dumb article. DVD was huge for PS2, 50% of polled people said their PS2 was their first DVD player. Bluray will likely share a similar statistic.

Well, why would a TRUE Xbox 360 fanboy be looking into getting a PS3 anyway? And if you're a big fanboy for any company you probably will go with the message they put out. In this case you'd probably believe that digital distribution is the future. But really... why even mention 360 fanboys or any fanboys at all? Really strange thing to say in an article like this if you ask me.

And while I don't see this hurting the PS3 for many of the reasons stated above by other members... do people forget that every Bluray player that finds a home is a win for Sony? Maybe not for the PS3, but you have to remember that Sony gets a piece of that Bluray pie. The better the format does... the better it is for them.

If you read the rest of this article, you will also find that these TVs are right now only in Japan, and they won't be cheap (around $1,700). Nowadays, you can get a VERY good HDMI, 1080p HDTV at a decent size for well under $1,000 (between 400-800 at Wal-Mart for a damn good Vizio that is well worth it). The PS3 would be at most 400 bucks, which means that it would STILL be cheaper to do THAT than to buy one of these TV's. Also, the capabilities that the disc would have would be severely gimped (the article says this and I agree), and there could be little to no updates when there is one to download. This and most people right now HAVE a HDTV or have easy access to one.

Unless this thing goes down significantly and it can show that it has all the capabilities of a standalone network-enabled BD player, don't expect this to sell well anytime soon.

i thought ps3 blueray advantage was devs had easier time with textures because of the space on the disc how would this change that.

Why would they put a Blu-Ray recorder in the TV? That just seems weird to me.

I wouldn't buy a TV with a built-in Blu-Ray player. In my own experience the combo devices are a waste because at some point the optical drive fails and then you're left with only a TV. I much prefer the separate units.

That's why you see most people buy TVs with integrated VHS in the 90s and most people buy TVs with integrated DVDs, especially because everyone likes their whole set to be F***ed up if a single part fails. Not to mention that people only buy PS3 to watch Blu-ray movies, that everyone has a budget for this TV in particular, and that everyone wants to have a *SHARP* at Home, and if they ever want to change their TV for a new one, they'll be fine putting the new one next to the old one because they'll still need the Blu-ray player in the old one.

This article is so full of fail, just like karlostomy and the rest of the fanboys.

Growing up my parents always bought my sister and I these combo sets, and every time the VCR/DVD/CD player would break in a couple of years. Leaving us with a TV set with no decent hookups.

so ok i buy this tiny 26" which by the way i hate small tv's specially if were speaking hd here, now i get a 360 and this tv. so now i don't need a ps3? ok so im not getting a ps3 but...wait what if i wanted to stay over a friends house over the weekend? and wanted to show em some of the blu ray movies i have bout due to this combo?

now do i have to carry the whole combo with me every time i wanna do this? i mean that's not exactly a thing anyone would put up with.

or if i had a small add on instead i could easily put it in the bag with the 360 and bring it along.

seriously if you already own an hd tv, there's no need for this, want a bluray player well? there are quite a few running cheap samsung and a few other companies selling stand alone players for quite cheap.
