God of War: E3 2016 vs. Final Graphics Comparison

Since E3 2016 when it was revealed this PS4 exclusive has gotten a huge upgrade.

DigitalRaptor2959d ago (Edited 2959d ago )

Now that's what I call an UPGRADE!

SSM are superstars now... in the same echelon as Naughty Dog, for sure.

hulk_bash19872959d ago

They've always been superstars. Every single GOW game has been a technical and graphical marvel for the platform it was released on.

AspiringProGenji2959d ago (Edited 2959d ago )

And yet we were called fanboys back when we said that graphics comparison was BS. Once again we were right and the game proved them wrong.

IamTylerDurden12958d ago (Edited 2958d ago )

It's funny how there are these people who always attempt to call the next big PlayStation exclusive a downgrade with some bs comparison, but when the final game actually releases it's often an upgrade rather than a downgrade. Uncharted 4, Horizon, GT Sport, God of War, and seemingly Detroit all appear to have improved their visuals since they were first shown.

ClayRules20122959d ago

All of Sony’s studios (especially this generation) are competing with Naughty Dog, and like with Guerrilla & HZD, they raised the bar higher, and surpassed ND’s technical marvel which is Uncharted 4. Not in the character model or animation department, but in just overall visual fidelity, HZD wins “in my opinion”

The level of polish, detail, and life that is present in Horizon, especially for being an open world, and surpassing the likes of U4, is an achievement in itself “in my opinion”

God of War looks to be continuing that trend. Looks really incredible.

I don’t expect anyone to surpass Naughty Dog, in terms of how much attention they pay to the little intricate animations for the smallest things, such as an enemy shifting there weight, when jumping from a vehicle to another vehicle, as seen in U4 etc.... But I’d love for Sony’s insanely talented devs to prove me wrong.

SSM have wizards working at their studio too!

IamTylerDurden12958d ago (Edited 2958d ago )

People should watch the documentaries and dev diaries from SSM and Naughty Dog. These studios put so much effort into every aspect of development, not just graphics. Even watching them compose the score and to what lengths they go is incredible, and you begin to understand why they get the results they do. And it's not just that they are technical wizards, they put the same effort and talent into every part of the game. This is how you get a true masterpiece like TLoU, Horizon, Uncharted 4, and God of War.

Ceaser98573612958d ago

One minute silence for that dude who on purpose downgraded GOW when The Story trailer dropped in. Even the Giant serpant is same as what shown during PSX , saw a gameplay video and that looks what was first revealed. So people needs to chill out when calling PS games downgraded. Wait for revealed copy..

IamTylerDurden12958d ago

It seems Sony has three superstars now. Naughty Dog, SSM, and Guerrilla. Could Sucker Punch and Sony Bend be next..?

GaboonViper2958d ago

They have always been in my books, next up Sucker Punch.

StormSnooper2959d ago

They actually upgraded the game, nice!

ClayRules20122959d ago

I personally prefer the look of the finished game.

I know many on YouTube have impressed that they prefer the lighting/atmosphere of the E3 2016 look, which is fine. But there’s better detail on the environment, characters, and Just overall, I can’t imagine just how beautiful the other levels in the game will look. The game is a technical marvel!

TyrellCorp2958d ago

I watched the DF analysis and just that footage left my jaw on the floor several times. It was absolutely stunning but I wouldn’t recommend watching it, it’s supposed to all be from early on in the game but it still felt too “spoilery” imo

ClayRules20122958d ago

I saw little bits and pieces from that, but not much. I mostly just listened to the video. I agree, it’s absolutely stunning.

Einhander19712959d ago

Agreed every GOW is a technical marvel this looks absolutely stunning:) roll on next weekend.

Hardiman2959d ago

Saw this the other day and just shows why PlayStation and it's first party deliver!

Alanah Addresses God of War's Sex Scenes

Alanah Pearce, who was a writer at Sony Santa Monica for several years and worked on God of War Ragnarök, has shed more light on the sex minigames which cropped up in the series' earlier entries.

🙄 is this all she could come up with for content? sheesh

Other than looking like that, why does anyone care about what she has to say about anything?

So let me get this right Corey said he didn’t want to spend 15 years of his life on the one franchise and decided to do a new IP which is why he didn’t do Ragnarok…but his new game is now a God of War prequel about a character who’s dead using Norse mythology.

I don’t get it, I thought it would be a brand new IP

Lightning7779d ago

Corey's game was suppose to be a new AAA scifi game. If it's GoW spin off that shouldn't take 8 years to develop, its kinda weird.

I think it got scrapped.

Christopher78d ago

Not sure, but if it's a new IP with new writers, new concepts, and the like that formed up mostly after the last game, I wouldn't expect much out of them for another two years at least. I'm not saying it isn't canned, just he wouldn't start on it until Ragnarok was done and they have a long cycles for new IP development.

Santa Monica has built up enough and utilizes other in-house Sony studios to support their stuff often, so I wouldn't be surprised if they can juggle many new games at once. Especially with Sony now pushing for more support after their Live Service decisions.

Cacabunga78d ago

I hope we get something to get excited about.. has been dry for a long while from WW studios

Eonjay78d ago

What are you basing the idea that the GOW spinoff is Corey's game? Wouldn't that make more sense to have the team that did Ragnarok produce the rumored title?

-Foxtrot78d ago (Edited 78d ago )

Why? Because it’s been 8 f***** years at this point since the 2018 game.

Corey’s is expected since he’s been working on his for longer

To have the God of War Ragnarok team put out Valhalla DLC and this new title 5 years after the last game while Corey’s is still a no show would be insane at this point.

The leakers point to this being his game aswell.

Profchaos78d ago

I agree i think i smell shite

KyRo78d ago

I hate how predictable Sony Studios have become. They are pretty much the GOW, Horizon and Spiderman studios now. They are great games but let's mix it up a bit. We used to give Xbox sh*t back in the day for being the Forza, Halo, Gears rinse and repeat but Sony is becoming the same.

Eonjay78d ago

The next four games coming out from Sony Studios are:
Marathon
Saros
Wolverine
Intergalactic
This is after Ghost of Yotei and Astrobot. So its more than a bit of a stretch to claim the are only doing God of War, Spiderman and Horizon.

KyRo78d ago

Eon, Marathon is on other platforms and something Bungie was working on before the Sony buyout.
Wolverine is yet another superhero third person cinematic melee combat game.
Intergalactic is another cinematic, third person melee combat game from what we know.
Saros is nothing more than Returnal reskin so far. It's all very boring, uninspired and safe.

Releasing other games doesn't mean they're not heavily relying on the same IPs over and over again just as Xbox did back in the day.

__SteakDeck__78d ago (Edited 78d ago )

@KyRo Now you’re contradicting yourself. First you say, PS is releasing the same franchises. But when @Eonjay gave you a list of the new franchises PS is working on, you’re going back to the usual Xbox fanboy talking points, saying they’re just more 3rd person games. Just be quiet man. Also. I wonder if you have the same take about Nintendo because they have been releasing the same franchises for 40 years.

__SteakDeck__78d ago

@-Foxtrot Seems like Cory had this planned for years. https://fandomwire.com/it-i...

He also teased it in his IGN interview after GOW 2018 released.

So they were suppose to be working on s New AAA IP something in the scifi genre. Did that get scrapped? They pulled back on LS and refocusing on the platform. Does that also mean less risks in the AAA space and going back to the same ip

LucasRuinedChildhood79d ago (Edited 79d ago )

"Does that also mean less risks in the AAA space and going back to the same ip"

Lightning7779d ago

It was rumors they were doing a game that wasn't GoW at all but a brand new IP entirely.

fr0sty79d ago

Likely another team doing the new GOW while Corey works on the new project.

Mr Logic79d ago

You're confused. The sci-fi game was being directed by Stig Asmussen after GOW3. They worked on it for 3-4 years until it was canceled and he left the studio.

Extermin8or3_78d ago

The science fiction game was scrapped a decade ago. People are getting stuff mixed up. We never had any info what Corey's project actually was.

Zeke6878d ago

He said himself "I would love to do something completely different, sci-fi would be fun to explore" We will see what I do, but I wont work on next God Of War".

That was just months after GoW 2018 was released.
So nothing gets ""mixed up". When he said that most of us hoped he would indeed do a sci.fi game to mix things up a little. Sadly Sony seems to have pulled the reins on that.

Extermin8or3_78d ago

@Zeke68 Sony have pulled the reigns on nothing there is literally an interview form about 6 years ago where he talks about the fact he has a prequel story he'd like to see told but it has to come after Ragnarok. He even hints at Faye being playable/protagonist. The game won't be called god of war either apparently.

Jin_Sakai78d ago (Edited 78d ago )

Try something new already!

__SteakDeck__78d ago

Do you want Nintendo to try something new as well? Because they keep releasing Mario and Zelda. GOW is PS’s biggest franchise. You don’t move on from that.

GrmpyolGamer 78d ago

If that's true then it's not really a God of War game then is it

jznrpg78d ago

If it’s fun with a good story I am fine with it. Definitely unexpected but that could end up being a good thing. Only time will tell.
