Destiny 2 seems to have fallen off the map, after launching to considerable sales and excitement just six months ago. It promised a bigger world to explore and more stuff to do than its predecessor did. The game launched to rapturous acclaim, from this outlet and from pretty much all the others.
So why does it seem like no one is playing anymore?

PlayStation has scaled back expectations for Bungie after reassessing Destiny 2 development costs, highlighting the risks tied to live-service games.
Honestly Thank Goodness!! Yet another good sign of a possibility of returning to what made them great and undoing Jim Tyans trend chasing love service gamble. Still gotta wait and see just what direction they're going but this is a good sign in my book that they're not betting it all on live service anymore
It may take a while but maybe they are finally learning. Good! Now stop with the live service crap.
They say this and then immediately release news of the Horizons co-op game that will definitely be a Live Service game.

Patch notes for Update 9.5.0.5, the one about Equilibrium fixes and more, are now available.

A new survey shows Destiny 2 is considering adding Sparrow Racing League, unvaulted campaigns, NPC sidekicks, new PvP and Gambit modes, and much more.
Might see how this is faring at the end of the year but I've heard nothing but bad things about Destiny 2. Pity, really liked the first one.
Seems pretty dead. I haven't heard anyone even mention the game in forever. But what did they expect? They got tons of feedback and complaints about the first game, and then made many of the same mistakes again in the sequel. Then with each event or update they found new ways to piss off the community. The people in charge over at Bungie appear to be very incompetent.
I would play it, but some update introduced a feature that makes connecting take 15 mins or so, so I quit playing Destiny 2.
It has one foot in the grave, fortunately for Bungie many people bought the season pass so the next "expansion" will either be Bungie's redemption or be the death of Destiny 2 as only a fool would preorder any future DLC they do after what they tried to pull with CoO.
It's a real shame. The sound design, art design and the general feel of the guns is all world class. It's such a shame that the people in charge of the game direction, story, and game play systems screwed up so badly.
They dumbed down and stripped out so much of the game it just became such a boring, lifeless, insipid experience.
And that's not to mention the ridiculous loot box situation.
On the plus side Bungie are listening. The problem is it is too little too late. People expected D2 to build on the great ending to Year 3 D1. Instead Bungie will need to spend 9-12 months just to bring D2 up to the level D1 ended at.
The second expansion will be the crunch point. I can see a spike in players returning out of morbid curiosity - but if the expansion fails to impress the game will be dead. And worse than that, no one will trust Bungie for Destiny 3 or futurte projects.
