The first mistake is to assume that game pass was meant to be consumer friendly. Game pass wasn't created to be consumer friendly.

It was a desperation move to combat the fact that in 2017 Sony and even Nintendo to some extent dramatically outsold Microsoft in software. Sony sold greater than 3x as much software as Microsoft in 2017 and looked to be growing. While Micrsoft's first party new IP's all failed (Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Recore, D, ect.) And even their big franchises like Halo, Gears and Forza were showing signs of diminished sales over previous entries in the series.

Game pass is Microsoft's subscription service to sell free to play styles games that are laden with MT's. Their goal wasn't to offer value it was to get as many people in the door then sell them MT's as the real profit stream. It's part of Phil's plan to move Microsoft away from traditional games development and into a games as a service based system.

They should put together something to combat microsoft.. That game pass is a very consumer friendly deal.. I just hope it doesnt kill the physical game market when mainstream gamers stop buying retail releases of AAA games. I see their plan already.. Sea of thieves was hyped up to sell subscriptions and it worked.. A half completed game many were disappointed with but theres so many other games on the service they wont care..

PSNOW is fine as it. They just need to improved their pricing and the latency of the game. Being able to access any games without downloading a massive file is a plus. It's the whole purpose of PSNOW is to play any games, anywhere. It's more close to Netflix subscription base service than game pass. Game Pass is limited to your home where you have to download the game and play it there. You can't take it anywhere.

depends because son has too many exclusives so they cant't put launch titles on game pass. MS has like 4 games so they can easily do it and no suffer as much while sony/nintendo exclusives sell millions

god of war selling 5-8 million is better than god of war being offered for $10 a month

People don't ralize that a service like gamepass can potentially ruin gaming. It sounds good on paper but you can finance big AAA exclusives from that really. Look at the difference between MS and Sony and look at the games. That is all you need to know.

Yes Imo Sony needs it more than MS IMO. Sony releases so many games that is hard to buy them all. If most of those games ended up on game pass at some point it would make it so much better for me to play games I wouldn’t normally purchase.

No, but some people would probably be interested in one if they did it. I like physical games and really only use consoles for exclusives, there's no way Sony could justify giving all their first party games away at launch on a Playstation Game Pass service.

I'd say what they are doing is working out well for them as they are headed towards 80 million! They are the market leader and to me if I were a competitor I would look to emulate what they were doing!

I would rather evil schemes to control the future of gaming born from a disdain for used game sales be kept away from PlayStation. When it comes to physical vs digital, I'm pro choice, and I just like owning my games. Besides, GaaS as certain less reputable industry giants are proposing, sounds like it will have aberrant effects on gaming in the long term should it be adopted across the entire industry. As a service on the worst-selling of the three major consoles the effects will be minimal, so here's hoping the top two best-selling consoles stay clear of it.

My playing habits would not be compatible with a service like game pass. I juggle a lot of games frequently with PlayStation Now. I use it at home and on my laptop when not at home. Just recently going through God of War and God of War 2. And the kids play on it all the time. It's more convenient to stream and play instead of taking up hard drive space. When on WiFi there is no interruption. If the hotel or lodging WiFi is weak then that's where I experience the most problems. One thing I would wish is the ability to justify the $99/per year (promotion) cost for PS Now on top of $60 a year for PS plus. If we can compromise to combine the subscriptions for like $7.99 per month that would be better.

No. Why does Sony want to be Microsoft? Why would PlayStation want to be Xbox? PS4 is double the install base of Xbox One. Sony must therefore be doing all the right things and Microsoft can't seem to get a grip. The answer is simply NO, they don't need to.

The demand for a GAAS console feature doesn't seem to be there for PlayStation fans—thankfully. I think if subscription-based gaming were of a mainstream viability it would have already become hugely popular on PC—and Steam would have capitalized on the interest.

I guess those of us who've been long-term PS+ subscribers in essence already have a free version of Game Pass if you really think about it. The games on Plus were just as good as those on GP, especially if you've consistently added them to your library over the years...

PS has to many games to do this. I don't want Sony to struggle financially and this disappear forever. M$ can afford to because they barely have any games and because they have money to throw around on services and advertisement, but not games.
