I'll always remember that scene where fake dante fell off a building. The voice acting was superb! Truly a Masterpiece!

Its a great game certainly underrated, personally didn't think dmc 4 was that great. Very good not incredible though.

this game was better than the original DMC games. faster and better camera angle. people are mad because the guy looks different and stuff which is plain idiotic to me.

To each their own I personally found the combat boring and the story was underwhelming for a Ninja Theory game.

So glad NT are independent now and we got a game like Hell blade, now we I just hope Capcom can announce DMC5 as a return to the original series style

Lol, no. It was a 12 year old dudebros self-insert fanfiction written by a 40 year old man going through a midlife crisis.

Not every game that didn't do well is suddenly this hidden gem that everyone missed out on. It got sh*t on for all the right reasons, and why they've gone back to pushing the original series back into the limelight.

I'm a Devil May Cry fan, with the 1st being my favorite, and I really really liked it. There were so many good things about it. It was such a breath of fresh of air. I just think people are terrified of change in their beloved series.

Here's my take. Only a vocal minority of people cared about hair color - and it was the first reaction to the teaser trailer. They were annoyed because it was the first sign Dante's backstory was rewritten. Moodiness in and of itself is not the problem. The problem is that Dante's emotional issues seem contrived - he literally tries to see if he has a physical heart. A bit emo. But because Dante isn't exactly emo for the rest of the game, the sob story stands out as contrived.

He barely changes throughout the game. The dialog tries to make him out to have changed into the savior of mankind, but we've seen no progression from the arrogant juvenile guy who has no reason to like humans or care about anyone. When push comes to shove, Dante doesn't even seem that angry towards Mundus for killing Eva.

Secondly, it's like a rehashed mash-up of DMC1 and DMC3's stories. Nobody wanted a reboot of that, and there's not much of an interesting spin on it.

Third: barely likable characters. Dante is an obnoxious yob who thinks he's amazing. Whereas old Dante deprecated enemies, new Dante puts himself on a pedestal, and it's insufferable. Vergil is an honorless, murderous hipster who wants to rule the human world. Dante stabs him when he's barely even heard why Vergil wants to rule, and without really thinking about it. Seriously, no in-depth conversation, no attempt to reign Vergil in or rule with him, just... stab? Mundus is the biggest cliché ever... the 'evil businessman'. It's a half-assed anticapitalist Illuminati conspiracy theory.

Its quality is subpar, with mediocre acting, a terrible script that also replaced funny dialog with uninspired cursing, slightly counterintuitive controls, and restrictive gameplay of 'hit [insert color] enemy with [color] weapon' which clashes with the combo system. Plotholes too. It's got half the combos DMC4 had, and they felt abrupt, choppy - 30 fps might not have helped either. The bosses were laughably easy, you could wail away on them and rack up style points, and confuse them with repetitive platforming. The platforming often served as padding.

The grabbing and pulling was basically lifted from DMC4. Many weapons had functional overlap, making some weapons almost useless. Many combos ended in launchers, again, restricting combo potential. The DT was overpowered, throwing enemies into the air, conferring a damage boost, AND slowing time. It forces you to fight aerially or grapple enemies down - again, restrictiveness.

I did like the art style because it was more unique. The rest was just as bad as, and often worse than everything from DMC.

This was my first DMC so I wasn't a butthurt fanboy because they changed his hair, etc. The game had good visuals but it was a bit too shallow. I got the HD collection for PS3 as well after this but that wasn't too good either. I think that first game had some potential but DMC 2 is really bad. Number 3 is hard for me and the controls and graphics just don't hold up.

I missed the boat on this franchise when it was hot and it's just really hard to get into in this day and age but I think the right studio could bring this to the modern day. I don't think that studio is Capcom though so maybe they should give it another developer.

Masterpiece, no, but definitely my second favorite in the series after Devil May Cry 3.

Still one of the best games I've ever played. It deserved to sell millions.
