Today YoYo Games the studio behind the GameMaker Engine announced that they will be offering everyone, inc including participants in game jam events (Train Jam, The Heart Jam and the Not Going To GDC Game Jam) from March 14th to March 28th an unrestricted license.

A 2 week trial for game creation software is a joke. Doesn't give you an inkling of time to get invested in the software. Offers like these that make me think that companies simply have zero clue about promoting themselves to their potential client base.

It's meant for game jam events, where people are challenged in making all sorts of games, or ones of their choosing, in short time constraints. Two weeks works for this event but I'm not sure who would try using a new development tool last minute. I think most of the challenges are coding from scratch anyways.

I don't know anything about Facebook owning Opera. I think they wanted to buy them nearly a decade ago but it didn't go through.
