Destiny 2, Six Months Later

Destiny 2 launched exactly six months ago today, though at times it feels more like six years. A bunch has changed since September, and the game has gone through some dramatic highs and lows. (Mostly lows.)

Pretty much this BUT Bungie are going to need to pull out all the stops, they've abused their fanbase's loyalty far too much to the point where the game is practically dead to them now. Bungie have everything riding on their next expansion, if that doesn't meet their fanbase's expectations, Destiny 2 at least will have one foot in the grave and they'll have a huge uphill battle to sell any further DLC after how CoO turned out that's for sure.

What kills me with this game is that it seemed like they "got it" the last year of D1. D2 could have been expanded on where they left off, but they completely stripped the game and removed all the things that kept players coming back. I have like 500 hours in D2 and I haven't played in over a month. The Division finally got it right so I am hoping Massive doesn't make the same mistake Bungie did when the Division 2 releases. Destiny players shouldn't have to wait around for 1-2 years to get things back they had a year before D2 was released.

The games lack of random rolls kills my desire to grind. Really sucks the state this games in and with how the games structured, idk if they can bring it back like they did with taken king. I still play the events but with the slight hope the game can turn around. It’s still the most enjoyably fun shooter mechanics wise, just a shame everything’s being squandered.

The only way to fix the weapons issue in the game is:
1) stop using so many re-skins
2) go back to random rolls.

They really need to go back to the systems they were using in D1, and stop trying to cater to the casual player.

I agree. If they decided that seasonal perk changes was the way to go too, I’d be ok with that. The meta is too stiff and hasn’t changed at all even with dlc. Or take the risk of imbalance and release some real spicy mods that people can use, not the hollowed out crap risk free weapon mod system they have now.

But random rolls would be my favorite solution.

Same. I agree, there are many systems that took steps back from the first game. The token vendor system gets old quick and they finally got a reason to grind a vendor with sets and ornaments but at launch no one had anything for sale. Who thought just endlessly turning coins in was going to be fun.

No kidding! I can understand using the coins for the planet vendors only, but for the Vanguard, Factions, Crucible, Iron Banner, Strikes, and Raids? Hell no!

Your're right. Not just that, but all weapons and gear mean nothing in this game anymore. Look at the Division, where gear sets give you bonuses and the more of a set you apply, the more bonuses you get. Yet, in Destiny, you have about five good weapons and you can't re-roll perks to get the god-roll. Also, the gear in this game is useless, all it does is change the mobility, recovery, or resilience, doesn't do anything good. I do know they updated raid gear to have raid perks, but that was there in D1 and it makes no sense it wasn't there at launch. There is no real reason to grind for gear outside of visuals. Sure, the mechanics are good and the gameplay is fun, but without meaningful gear/weapons to grind for, playing the same stuff over and over with no improvement of reward grows tiring-some.

May will be the first major content release from the Live team. I am excited about it. In the meantime plenty of other games to play.

I’m 100% skeptical and cautious but I own it nontheless so still going to check it out. My guess is games not going to change until fall or later though

Yeah, they will add some stuff that D1 Y3 had, but don't expect a meaningful content release till Septemberish.

The changes Bungie have been making thus far are small, but needed. The dev road map they released shows a good start to the changes they are going to make, but they still need to do a lot more!

They really do need to do more. Problem is their engine is next to impossible to work with in terms of how long it takes to create or let alone fix any issue large or small. It’s whats killing this game. The lack of content and price gauging is unreal.

Indeed. The sad part is, Bungie have been using the same engine for almost a decade now. They really need to get a new one that is easier to work with and not so outdated.

The problem here is why is this happening? They made similar mistakes with the first destiny. Did they not learn? They had a solid product the final year of Destiny and then they release Destiny 2 which is so far removed from that. This game should have been great from release and expanding on why it was a success. Rather now, we have a game that's average and now adding things that should have been there since launch.

The problem was, and in some ways still is, bad management. Bungie had a solid product before release with D1, but there were some staff shake-ups and they had to start over. Pretty much the same thing happened with D2. They had a product that was moving along well, but then the game director was dismissed/left and Luke f'ing Smith took over and restarted everything with 16 months left until launch. I blame all of D2's problems on him and Mark Noseworthy.

Honestly Thank Goodness!! Yet another good sign of a possibility of returning to what made them great and undoing Jim Tyans trend chasing love service gamble. Still gotta wait and see just what direction they're going but this is a good sign in my book that they're not betting it all on live service anymore

Not sure what you lot are talking about anymore. They need to cover all range of games. Im primarily a single player gamer, but even I cannot be daft enough to ignore the fact that we need all manner of games including live service games. Everyone here seems to be a market expert.

Yes "all manner" not just exclusively live service like Jim was doing, but you also shouldn't be forcing devs to make games they not only have no experience making, but also flatout dont want to do.

I don't understand why you people have to keep making up lies. You can say you don't like some or most of their focus being on live service games, but to say they were exclusively focusing on live service games is pure copium. At most half of their games were live service and the rest were single player games. Seriously why lie about something so obvious?

You say that as if we don't have word directly from Jim Ryan and PlayStation stating they wanted at least 12 live service games released within a year. Followed by tons of official word of those Live Service games being cancelled after he was pushed out. All studios combined at the time PS had 15 studios, 12 is a hell of a lot more than half of 15, and it was definitely their primary focus evident by the fact that a huge portion of their studios have taken uncharacteristically long to release or announce anything since, hell some studios have yet to release anything this gen almost 6 YEARS LATER! The only one making stuff up is you.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a live service here or there, but to have many of your studios start focusing on it when there has been little to no experience among them was wild.

They will not. Destiny has been popular for over 10 years, something most games can never hope to achieve. Most people, including myself those Bungie was going to make a D3 after the final shape DLC. Marathon looks to be a hit and a D3 announcement could break records.
